Hi guys and girls,

To give you a bit of context:

Prior to my latest flare I was exercising approximately 5 times a week for between 1 - 3 hours each day.

Exercise ranged from hiking mountains to doing something that resembles Crossfit/functional fitness.

Just before the flare (today is my first day without painkillers in 3 weeks, yay!) I was probably in the best shape of my life.

My question is, have any of you found that pushing to hard in exercise can cause a flare. I will be starting Imuran next week so was wondering if I had made my immune system too strong?

Another question, I am currently on 60mg of prednisone/day tapering down 5mg per week. I know that prednisone is illegal in professional sports, is it dangerous to push hard whilst on it? Please excuse me if this is a stupid question but no amount of googling is getting me the answers I need.

Lastly, any tips or tricks that you have for avoiding side-effects from prednisone and Imuran would be hugely helpful. Last time my whole back was covered in rash, would like to avoid this!

Big love to you all, thanks for taking the time to read.

Julian

I would think you should be able exercise as normal, just listening to your body for cues.

My son played football and wrestled while on prednisone. At the time he also attended a military prep school which incorporated a lot of physical exercise. Any problems he had related to his flare and not the medications ie. fatigue, TI pain when running etc.

DS was on Pred and 6-mo while swimming competitvely .
Later remicade etc....
No restrictions other than resting when his body needed .
He was 7/8 at the time .
He is now 11 and still no issues
