How long can you stay on ENSURE/EN ?

Drinking ensure or premier protein has helped a lot …my stools are often about 90% better since initiating
the drinking of 3 or 4 bottles daily of EN.
I notice there are prescribed, more expensive EN formulas

Will my gastroenterologist be willing to prescribe it or can he ?
I have both medicare and VA healthcare.

The VA seems to just want to infuse me with zedolizimab and I’m going in tomorrow to talk about that and I am
probably going to refuse for now because the ‘ensure’ is working so well on my stools.

How Long can you stay on the EN ? I’m sure that if I eat the wrong stuff - my crohn’s / diarrhea will be back in a
flash. Can it be a long-term solution ?

I am going to experiment with adding a whole foods RE-EN Type concoction or just eating the usual
foods that i read are to be added to the blender ... eat chicken breasts/sweet potatoes/banannas etc ..sorta

Usually studies to induce remission with EN are on an 8 weeks basis. Then I’m not aware of many or serious studies on EN ability to maintain remission for like 52 weeks as you can usually find for biologics.

How long do you personally think you can stay on EN only before missing social occasions etc…?

I been on EN only diet myself for few months as a teenager at the begining of my crohns with good results, and tried a kind of EN+exclusion diet +biologics in 2 other occasions for few months as an adult, without miracle effects on remission (and strictures) but good ones on symptoms. I must admit it’s not easy at all as an adult, if you dont want to miss events for professional life and sociality related to food.
