hey guys i was just wondering how often do you have flare ups, and how long do they last you , and how many flare up's have you had. I have only had one flare up and it lasted a little less then a month, but i was lucky cause they found out i had crohns like right away. I have had crohn's for less then a year and a half.

My GI has told me I've probably been in a flare for 8 years now. Hopefully with this surgery I'll be in remission. Flare ups are usually characterized by at least a week or two of symtoms and can last for a long, long time possibly. My problem has been I've been in a flare for so long that I don't feel the pain anymore until it get's really bad. Go for treatment very soon if you start getting symptoms. I hope that's an answer you wanted, if not I'll answer it differently.

I am along the lines of Jeff - I don't remember ever being in total remission. I had a few months of reduced symptoms after my last surgery, but it has never totally gone away. I have to say I am sick of taking pills every day, but it keeps it down enough that surgery isn't an option in my mind right now (it's amazing what you can get used to!).

I used to go into remission, first for a few years, then as time went on less and less time between flares...usually a flare ended me up in the hospital.....like Jeff - I got so used to the pain that I was REALLY bad off by the time I went to the Doc....then straight to the hospital (from his office!) for a week or so.

When I was first diagnosed treatment took 2 months.. then I was in remission for 9 months... had another flare.. remission for 6 months.. hospital for a week and since then I don't think I've ever been in full remission. That would make it 6 years with no remission.

But I'm the same with pain.. and anything that comes with it... I get on with life until it gets REALLY bad. I'm appalling at going to the doctor when I should. I never do.... I have something like "Oh, I can live with it..." Don't live with it, sort it out!

For the last 11 years since I've been diagnosed I have pretty much been in a flare. I was in remission once for about a month. It's not always terrible, but very up and down and just never gone!

After my first flare I was in remission for about 7 years. Then I flared about once a year for a couple years. Then, like the others have said, I lowered my definition of "normal" and pretty much ignored stuff until it got bad. The ignoring period went on for about 18 months before I went to GI. Been trying to get it under control now since August 2009. Knock on wood. Things seem pretty calm right now.
