Hi

My husband is in the process of being diagnosed with Crohn's. He has been unwell since Easter and after numerous trips to see the GP ( after he lost 3 stone and they started to listen that this wasn't a virus) we finally saw a gastro consultant and he has had a CT scan and colonoscopy which both confirm Crohn's. We are still waiting for the biopsy results to confirm. He literally cant walk due to so much pain following 7 weeks of diarrhoea and started budenofalk on Friday 3mg x 3 a day. We are on day 5 and there is no difference at all. Its awful seeing him so ill with no improvement and I really don't know where to turn!!
Does anyone know how long it should take before they start to work? Also we are supposed to be going to Florida on 23rd July ( having saved up for a year) and im worried that he wont be well in time to go and ill have 2 very disappointed children :(

This depends entirely on the patient. Sometimes people report improvement on steroids within days, sometimes it takes a month or two. Crohn's Disease is a very individualized illness. I'm sorry but it's basically impossible to say. If you really want to give him the best chance you could go back and ask for Prednisone, it's more powerful but will have drastically more side effects and I'm guessing because he didn't prescribe Prednisone off the bat there are confounding factors such as diabetes or serious mental illness.

You need to discuss that with your doctors. I don't know your case like your doctors do.
