How long till imodium kicks in for you?

Curious what the consensus is on how long it takes for imodium to kick in.

For me it can be an hour to six hours but usually just an hour unless it's really bad.

Imodium doesn't work at all for me. I have to take Lomotil and depending on the day, sometimes I have to take up to 5 (GI approved) throughout the day to finally stop the D.

I can't use Imodium, took handfuls of it (25 plus a day) when I was trying to come off codeine for diarrhoea. Back on codeine, maximum dose, but can't leave the house otherwise. I know Imodium comes as a liquid and perhaps more effective?

Two usually enables me to walk the dog,maybe an extra two for a safe walk to the shops.

Most times immodium doesn't work at all. But sometimes I get lucky and it seems to work a bit, usually 1-2 hours after I take it. I have better luck with taking Levsin, although technically it is not an anti-diarrhea med it's an anti-spasmodic med.

I know doctors differ (some say it is an absolutely no no for people with IBD, others say you can even take it daily) in their view about it, but just wanted to point out that taking a medication that seriously affects bowel movements of people who have inflammatory bowel disease is sort of... well... not smart, even though there aren't any long term studies of effects of immodium.

I go to one of the leading hospitals in the world and see a leading GI. I have been prescribed Imodium, lomitil and codeine. Without medication to slow me down, I suspect I would be on TPN on by now.

Thanks for the info. Although I def.don't overdose,never usually more than 2-4,three or four times a week,I have been on repeat prescriptions for eight years.
Your info has put my mind at rest that it's ok.
I do occasionally suffer from C. but I am certain it has nothing to do with the number of Loperamide I take.Just the cursed I.B.D.
