I'm just calling out to all those women out there who have been pregnant whilst on Humira. I need some information/advice.

I've been on Humira for about 5 months now and have little to no symptoms of CD. I'm thinking now is a good time to start my family.

Does anyone have any information about the affects of Humira on the baby?

I'm not sure whether I should try and come off Humira (my GI said there would be a more than 50% chance of flaring if I do this) or lower the dose (maybe try monthly injections) or just stay on it?

I'm really concerned about the fact that there is limited information about the short and long term affects on the baby with me being on this drug.

Does anyone have any info?

Thanks!! I'm really confused

It hasn't really been studied in depth with most of the biologics, but my understanding is that there is no known connection to birth defects. Your doctor or the people at myhumira would be the best suited to telling you any known information.

I was on Humira while I was pregnant and I have a perfect, healthy baby boy who just turned a year old. I did not have any issues with the Humira and my son was born on time weighing 7lbs 6ozs.

I opted not to breast feed him though since there was not much research done and I figured why take the chance. So his was a formula baby but has done fine.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks everyone! I will follow up on all your suggestions.

Going to weigh up all my options before making the decision.

I'm frustrated by the fact that there is limited research out there. My GI said that all the lectures he has been to about it say that they don't think there are any problems with it but they are not sure.

Thanks again!

Just wanted to say that I too have a 17month old baby that was born while on Humira. I got off about 6-8 weeks before my son was born and then started back immediately after. He is healthy and perfect but like Maria, I chose not to breastfeed because of the lack of research.

I just wanted to report that I gave birth to perfectly healthy twin boys 14 months ago. I decided to go ahead and stay on Humira during the pregnancy and have just stopped breast feeding this week (still on Humira). My GI said the latest research suggests that little to no Humira gets to the babies during breast feeding and the acid in their stomach deals with any of the drug that does transfer to them. The only thing is that it is suggested to delay live immunisations until 6 months of age when you are breast feeding on Humira. I didn't know this until after I had immunised my babies but there were no negative side effects (phew!).

Thanks for all the advice and comments.

Amanda
