...but I'm afraid. Not of the needle or anything, I have good pain management (Yeahh Crohns, what can I say? lol) I want to get a dark blue support ribbon (for crohns/uc, of course) right where my stomach always hurts. The catch is if I ever have to get surgery some day, I don't want the tattoo to get all mangled and deformed. I was thinking about maybe moving it over to my side but I don't know. Does anyone have a tattoo there or has had one get messed up because of surgery? Thanks :)

Well I have 2 tattoos but they aren't on my stomach and I personally wouldn't want to get one there cos its supposed to really hurt. They say really fleshy parts or really bony parts are the worst. I have 1 tiny one on my shoulder and 1 on the side of my hip. Nether of them really hurt, they just stung, its like when you get your ears pierced and it stings except this lasts longer. I was going to get one on my bum (a long time ago) but was advised against it, so I didn't. I do know people who have tattoos near their belly button and they did say they hurt when they had them done. Its up to you, but a different place might be a better option if you really want one.

I also would like to tatoo something I've been thinking about for a long time. But doesnt Remicade = no tatoos what so ever?

I have on about 6 inches from my bellybutton on my hipbone- I LOVE it there. I can cover it up most of the time, wear bikinis that show it or wear bikinis that hide it. And my laparoscopy scars are nowhere near it.

I think you should get your tattoo done on your back either across your shoulder blades or at the base of your spine!!

I have three -- shoulder, ankle, small of my back. I have a neighbor who broke her ankle and the surgeon worked REALLY hard not to mangle it. I wouldn't wanna have one done on the stomach. I would say, ankle, shoulderblade, or near the hipbone just to avoid possible surgery sites. Also, if you have it on the fleshy parts and gain or lose weight or have a baby, once stretched, it's always distorted.

Im on remicade, and never heard that one before. so is Jonny and he just got a new one without any problems.

maybe ask your DR what they think about it, they would give you some good reasons why you should or shouldnt avoid it (scar tissue etc)
good luck with whatever you chose.

OK, thanks for the info! Just have a memory of reading this. it had to do with the increased risk of infection and lowered immune defense while on remicade. something like that?

LOL i want one on my tummy to but am not sure were to get it so that if i have surgery it wont get messed up. I'mjust going to wait untill i have surgery so that i know were is ok and not ok on me. Cause i dont really want it anywhere else

with crohns would it cause any problems if I got a tattoo?

It might be better to start a new thread but to answer your question, no it shouldn't. I have one on my right hip and got it after my surgery.

Hi Pinky,

Roo got a tattoo about 6 months ago and is also on Imuran. She didn't have any problems.

I read somewhere also that if you have a tattoo on your lower back at the end of your spine they wont usually offer an epidural for an alternative pain med., during/after surgery.

I would also like a tattoo

If I like a picture of something, I will hang it on a wall.

As an middle aged person, I have the retrospect of knowing many of the things I thought were a good idea when I was younger, did not seem so later on. My son already regrets some of the tattoos he got just a couple of years ago.

The benefit/risk ratio just does not add up for me, but that is just me.

i was pretty sure that the crohn's ribbon was lavender/purple colour...
and tattoos are great! i got one on my foot 3 years ago, and still love it.

I got mine 10 years ago and the only thing that I regret about it is the location because I may want to have children and since it's on my right hip, it may stretch but that's ok. XD I still like it and its plenty hidden. I'm thinking of getting one more at the nape of my neck but its going to be the family tattoo that all my siblings have talked about getting. Sadly out of the 4 of us, no one has drawn up a design. :p

It is! I kinda hope the OP didn't get that tattoo then, if they thought it was dark blue.

I've seen a couple sites say different colors for it. More sites say purple but another site says that blue can be an alternative color. Blue makes more sense to me cause Purple is also for victims of 9/11 which I think should have its own color because I think more people will associate that color with 9/11 rather than crohns. Here's the site that says it can be either:

I got a tattoo this past Feb. and love it! I am on remicade, and didnt have any problems.

I wouldnt get any on my belly though because of possible future surgery that would ruin it. I got mine on the inside of my right ankle. Love it.It's easily hidden, but I can easily see it to. Personally I can't understand why people get them on there back or other places you can't see. Whats the point of getting a tattoo when you cant even see it?

My tattoo is two little paw prints to represent my love for animals. The color I got them in is blue with a black outline. The blue is kind of "two toned" its really hard to explain, but its pretty. ;)

My husband and I are right with ya Dan! I'd sooner have a new body :ytongue:. My daughter has tattoos but they are her birth sign one of the sign and another chinese on on her neck. I freaked, but oh well it is her body and some day the wrinkles will hide the

I have several ideas for tattoos I would like to get, but I'm way to self-conscious.. I would want to proudly display them, but I just don't have the body...

Sounds like a silly reason, I know. The money is also a huge factor.

i have 2 small tatts, and i love them. one is a rorschach blot in the shape of a butterfly on my wrist (which is a very painful place to get a tattoo), and the other a small inscription on my hip that says 'faithlovehope'.
my mum cheered when i told her i couldn't get any more cos of remicade, lol.
i do want more, but i figure it's a small price to pay for being somewhat healthy.

i have 2 small tatts,

For a second, I thought you said you had two small... nevermind.

Here is a good idea for a chronie's tat.

Why can't you get it when your on remicade? Did they tell you that you can't? I've been on remicade for 4 years and got my first tattoo this past Febuary, and had no problems at all. Im just wondering.

20 tattoos, but all covered in uniform. No one ever guessing I have any - the hidden wild side, lol.

I have always get them in places I can cover, if needed. I have also tried to stay after from areas that would need surgeries.

I have 15 tattoos and four of them while on Remicade. I have not had any issues being on Remicade and getting the tattoos. I guess it comes down to what you feel comfortable doing.

when i went in for my first infusion, i had just gotten an industrial bar through my the top of my ear (big piercing through 2 places in my ear) and it was looking a lil ick. so the nurse told me i couldn't do anything that could risk infection, because my body just wouldn't be able to heal itself while on remicade (and imuran). so no more tattoos and no more piercings =(
my immune system is so lacklustre anyway, if someone sneezes within a 5 mile radius i get a cold for weeks, lol.

I've got 6 so far. I plan to keep going but I also won't get them in places that could affect work so I stay away from the arms. I want to be able to wear a short sleeve in the summer and still look professional lol
These are two that I have pics of

I already have a few tats, but lately I have consider getting another one. I might get a toilet if I could find the right image, pic, or even idea. Just poundering the thought.

I've been on Imuran for about a month now, and I just had a friend tattoo me a couple weeks ago. All is fine. :) It's already healed up now. It looks a bit crooked in the picture.. Don't be afraid to do it, it'll heal.
