Hello,

Background info on me:
I have been diagnosed with crohns since 1999 when i was aged 19. I struggled for many years with duodenal crohns until I had a duodenal bypass in 2003. This helped enormously and i was in pretty good health for many years until symptoms started coming back again. In 2012 I had a really bad year which resulted in me having just had surgery to remove the ileum and caecum along with 3 strictureplastys. After this operation (3 days after) and still in considerable pain and they had to operate on me again in which they found a hernia in the bowel.

I was in hospital for 4 weeks total and lost 3 stone in weight (Iwas told 5-7 days in hospital and back to normal in 4-6weeks). It is now 12 weeks since the second operation and I still have an open wound on my front from the incision (was 2cm deep by 6cm long, but now only 0.5cm deep and 2cm long) but worse is the lower abdo pain i am getting. I look like i am pregnant my tummy sticks out so much (before the ops and weighing much more i had a flat tummy). It hurts to press it in and is getting worse as time goes by.

Let me paint the picture. 3 weeks ago i was moving well and doing a lot as normal. I then went to see my surgeon for a check up and all seemed well other than a stitch poking out of my wound. He pulled the stitch up (was a clear plastic wire) about 10cm from my wound and everything went very tight below this. It was attached to a loop going throughout my incision from top to bottom. Ever since this the pain in my lower abdomen is getting worse and worse and I can no longer move well, infact its debilitating.

I am seeing him next Wednesday and he assures me the stitches are not permanent and will dissolve.

My question is has anyone else had this operation and had trouble after with wounds and pain?

Thanks and sorry for the long post.
Tony

Hey Tony,

My goodness, you certainly have had an awful time of it. :( I know there are others on the forum that have had difficult times post op with wounds and pain. I hope some one will be along to give you some advice.

Both of my children have had the surgery you have just had but did not experience any post op complications. They also had a continuous dissolvable suture.

I hope the you can get this sorted and it sounds as if it needs to be done sooner rather than later. Any chance of getting the appointment earlier than next Wednesday? If not perhaps go and see your GP and see what they think?
