Illeostomy Reversals?

I have seen a few people on here talking about having their illeostomy reversed and I was wondering how common this is?

It was never offered as an option for me, even before I had my rectal stump removed (no going back now)! I've had the bag since I was seven and I have to say I'm glad I have not had to go through life with a constant toilet plan, or worrying about having an accident.

Obviously I have had some serious problems with crohns but I wonder if too many suffers are avoiding having an illeostomy for fear of how it will affect their life?

Any questions, ask me, I don't remember life without it. In fact I find the whole idea of natural bowel habits quite strange. I actually like the fact that mine is contained in a neat little bag.

Ileostomy reversal is more of the norm, I think. Many ileostomies are temporary unless the colon is removed and/or the rectum is severely damaged.

I love my ileo!! I've put off reanastomosis for the time being, as I would much rather have a stoma then go back to living in the bathroom. :)

I got a stoma 7 days after they found I had crohns, because the resetion went bad and I went septic. Nine months after I got it, they reversed me. Then 2 months after than, I started having a flair. I liked the ilyostomy, I could eat anyhting I wanted and I felt really good al the time.

(Note: my wife has/had colitis and had her colon removed and had a J pouch for over 25 yeats. She now has a perm. ilyostomy and LOVES it. She can do anything she wants, even swiming. )
