I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease just after my 50th birthday in November, 2010.
I have never had any symptoms that others have however during a routine colonoscopy my doctor found moderate to severe inflammation and my doctor gave me these options: treat the inflammation, or do nothing and walk around like a ticking time bomb......

I chose to treat it, but the first meds he put me on were terrible I can't remember what then name was, but they were an anti-inflammatory, I felt sick on them........ so now I'm on Entocort and am gaining weight like crazy....

I'm confused because I don't know if I should continue taking the meds or as long as I'm asymptomatic just watch my diet and take supplements to ease the inflammation...

Hi Binka! I haven't been on Entocort but there is a ton of people on the forum that have, a great place to look is in Support and IBD Discussion and do a search. Please take care and make yourself at home here, there are lots of great people!

Hi Binka:

Welcome to the forum! Your story of how you came to be diagnosed is very different from some of the rest of us. I'm really glad you didn't have a whole slew of symptoms that had you at your doctor's office, but I'm sorry that you ended up with a Crohn's diagnosis.

There are two schools of thought on whether to take meds while one is asymptomatic: some believe in taking *something* as a prevention measure, while others decide to forgo the meds route and take control of their illness through diet and supplements.

I would suggest posting that specific question in the 'Treatment' section of the forum. In the 'Diet and Fitness' section, there are a number of threads that look at/deal with supplements that people take that might be helpful to you.

Take care, and again, welcome to the forum!

Cheers,

Kismet

Hi Binka and welcome to the forum. I am happy to hear that you haven't had some of the nasty symptoms. You are blessed. Please make yourself at home here.

Hi Binka and welcome! Did your biopsies support your Crohn's diagnosis? I am not doubting your Crohn's diagnosis, but inflammation could be caused by other factors such as infection. Being that you never had GI issues before, I'd just want to be sure other possibilites were ruled out.

But if you have been diagnosed with Crohn's, I think you made the right move with treating your condition. I am sorry the anti-inflammatory you first took made you so ill. There are many different brands, so perhaps you can try a different one and see if you have a better response. But in the mean time, I hope Entocort works well for you@

Entocort is a short-term steroid used to get a flare under control quickly. I had no side effects on it. But really, you should be on a long-term maintenance med. That may have been what you were on that you said made you feel sick.

Hi there, I had a colonoscopy and a cat scan and both showed moderate to severe inflammation... So as much as I would have liked to hear that it was a mistaken diagnosis, unfortunately this doesn't appear to be true... Also it seems to run in the family.

HI Binka, welcome to the forum. but, you made the right choice in treating the disease especially if the speculate it is crohn's. but, from you post this isn't the case it is crohn's and it must me treated. to get the inflammation undercontrol. i have had it for 21 years and now having a flare up and presently on predisone and other anti-inflamatory drugs. eventually they will find the one that is right for you and get you back on your feet again.
best wishes

scott

I am sorry to hear you have moderate to severe inflammation. Are you going to be adding another treatment to the Entocort?
