Hi, i have very recently been diagnosed with Crohns after an acute attack and week in hospital have been sent home on pred. I am following low residue diet and am feeling much better than i did. However i have loads of quetsions that i m going to ask my doc. when i see him but i would really appreciate to hear from someone who has experience of IBD. My main concern at the minute that i am still having pain, intermitantly, is this normal when on meds.?Or are they supposed to take away all symptoms? And if i am having pain when they reduce my meds is it very likely to all kick off again? Hope this makes sense

Hi Jettalady, I am keeping food down, no nausea, feel quite good apart from this pain, am taking pred. 40 mg, calcium, vit d. and something for stomach acid. Not been to loo for couple of days when i last went everything okay....

That sounds good so far. For a while and wait til the pain goes away and the prednisone kicks in dont eat chewy foods, hard to digest foods or meat. Bland is best. Good you are taking alot of Calcium it is important for bone loss from the Prednisone and stomach acid stuff.... what type of taper does the doc have you on?

I am going to see him on thurs. to see whats what, i think he is going to start reducing the pred. then but other than that i am in the dark. I am qute nervous about going to see him as it will be my first appt. and i don't know what to expect. Thankyou for reassuring me about this pain, i feel abit lost and out of my depth at the minute. I am sure i will get to grips with it all, i am terrified of having a relapse like two weekends ago so the slightest thing is very unnerving!!!

I am assuming it was a bowel obstruction? If it was I know that pain, labour pains from natural child birth is way easier. When I have a bowel obstruction max doses of Morphine doesnt even touch it and vomit til my ribs feel like they are broken. Was that how you could describe it?

I don't think it was a bowel obstruction?! How daft do i sound?! They thought it might be an obstruction and did xrays but said they were clear, i was vomiting from my boots but bringing nothing up, had had the trots for a week anyway, and then i lost loads of blood (pr), sorry for all the info., they rehydrated me, pumped me full of morphine (which stopped me being sick), and then proceeded to give me a vast array of meds. until my colonoscopy and then strated me on the pred. and then sent me home....

Not to worry everyone's symptoms and pain is different!!! You are perfectly well in alot of pain. Ulcers can hurt like hell too. Glad you are ok, also say away from dairy, if you have D, eat applesauce. Sorry but what Country are you from?

Over the pond! LOL. Anyway any of us can help dont be afraid to ask it is why really essentially here! I know you are scared...been there done that, and still do :hang:

I agree with Pen. It may take a little longer for the pain to go away. As long as it is not overly painful, I wouldn't worry too much. Since you're seeing your doctor Thursday you can likely wait until then to ask about it.

Hi Jellybean

hope you're feeling a bit better?
just a thought, but ask your doc if you can stay on Pred for at least a month at 40mg, then start to taper down, this will ensure that any inflammation can be blitzed and healed, if you taper too soon, the inflammation might not be healed and you may flare again.
xxx

Hi Astra101, thanks for that, i was worried that two weeks might not be long enough, but being new to this I am in the dark. On the flip side though i am also worried about the side effects of being on 40 mg for a while....
