Hi! I was wondering if it is okay to go in the Sauna with an ileostomy ? I am worried it will melt to my skin. My doctors have told me not to use heating pads against my ostomy because the sticky part will melt. Does this happen in saunas? Thanks guys!

You would be taking a risk if in there too long. you don't want to surprise everyone with your bag leaking or falling off.

Im not worried about my bag leaking. I live in an apartment complex with a sauna that is hardly ever used. Im more worried about the bag melting and sticking to my skin? Does this ever happen?

I never heard of that happening and think adhesive remover could clean it up. It won't be so hot to burn into your skin.

The lowest melting points of polymers are in the 70-75 degrees celsius ranges for certain PVC types. I understand that medical device polymers used are a mixture of different polymers which likely have a higher melting point range. Still, if you were really kicking up the heat hard and remained in the sauna for a long time, some bag polymers might be degraded.

I sit in my hot tub at 103 for an hour and have no issues whatsoever. I don't think you'll have a problem. If you're that worried about it, go in for a few minutes and then check and see if anything's happening.

By the way, I've put a heating pad on my stoma without issue as well.

I've used a heating pad against my stoma without any problems. I also use a hair drier to help warm up the wafer against my skin. I think you will be fine in the sauna, I mean I've been outside in 110 degree and humid weather without an issue. All that happens is that I lose days of wear time.
