I work in an open plan office and its this time of year when everyone around me seems to be coughing, sneezing and generally spreading their germs.

Here I am currently taking two types of drugs that lower my immune system (AZA and Infliximab) desperately trying to keep healthy.

Just wish people would be a little more understanding!!!

I know how you feel i too was on aza and inflix i was in a school with around 2000 people at first the school was not understanding at all and i ended up not going out but i really regret not going anywhere.
I just tried keeping hands clean and not being in small spaced with lots of people. now i work on the checkouts and i always have my hand cleaner on me and watching out for people sneezing and buying cold and flue meds

The thing that really annoys me is when parents let/make their kids go to school when they clearly are not well.
So far this term my youngest has brought home a horrendous cough, really bad cold and just recently impetigo. His immune system is worse than mine now.
I am on Infliximab and try to be careful but in the face of stupidity what can you do?!

I've said this before in other posts - but it bears repeating (I think at least!).....

I work in an environment with oh, about 10,000 (yes, TEN THOUSAND) people coming through PER DAY...between employees and visitors - my doctor told me that the MOST important thing is for ME to wash hands often, don't touch my face, use sanitizer.....basically as long as someone doesn't directly sneeze/cough/rub up against you, these precautions should keep most things at bay.

I've only had 1 bout of a 'bad' illness - 3 years ago now (I think) I had pneumonia....which I was able to get over somewhat easily.....

My daughter and husband have been sick more than me actually!

Ditto to pasobuff--I work in a clinic, sick people everywhere. Make sure to keep *your* hands clean--sanitizer or soap, do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth (direct germ routes) and try to limit touching objects with your bare hands (bathroom doorknobs, flush handles, railings, elevator buttons, etc). Use your sleeve, a paper towel, your knuckles, feet, etc. instead of your bare hands.
Get your flu shot, keep hydrated and well-rested. Good luck!

Diagnosed CD Summer 2010. This is my first winter on full dose Azathioprine, started them last winter but now been on it for a year. have had a cold for a couple of weeks, doesn't seem to go away but not getting worse, is that normal with immunosuppressant ? very careful with hand cleansing etc but not sure how to get over this and if its just to be expected. Now getting broken skin round nose etc that just won't heal and worries me for infection . I don't have a specialist nurse nand don't want to take this to doctors if its the norm. I have just joined the forum.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I have a bottle of alcohol hand sanitizer permantly on my desk now.

People coming to work sick is one of my biggest pet peeves! They act like they should get the employee of the month award! So far I have been able to avoid the bug that is currently going around.

Sick people at work? What about all the sick people that just must take their contageous selves to the grocery store, the bakery, the deli, a restaurant, the mall to just get one more thing before they go home to bed??? This is how I've had strep throat twice in the past 2 months...and I wash my hands so much I look like I've got OCD! People are inherently selfish and do not really think about it when they risk public health for their own cookie craving. It sucks, but just don't get too close to anybody. And when you are washing your hands, know that you should never finish and touch any bathroom surfaces afterward...use a paper towel to shut faucet and open door ect. And don't rub your eyes or pick your nose (I'm just sayin...the germies jump right in that way). Oh, and lysol. Lots and lots of lysol. They sell little travel cans now. Stick one in your briefcase and if anyone gets too close, give em a shpritz!

@Kat-y. Hello and glad you've found us here. Do you think the broken skin is from having to blow your nose? Just asking cos nasal sores and sores in the corners of the mouth can be a Crohns symptom due to vitamin deficiency. Are you putting anything on it?
I've noticed that even a tiny cut or burn takes ages to heal. I'd say if it doesn't heal in a couple of weeks, or starts to feel hot and angry, get off to see the doc.
