Hello everyone, im new to the site ive been reading forums for awhile now but was always afraid and self concious of my crohns. Seeing how supportive everyone is made me realize its time to join and not be embarrassed of crohns. I was diagnosed at the age of 17 im now 23. Ive had 1 resection of the small bowel w/ illeostomy, then reversed back in 06. Im now recovering from perianal abscess and fistula surgey w/ seton placement, what a pain in the butt. BUT I just wanted to take this time to introduce myself in nutshell.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Crohn's can certainly be embarrasing at times, just know you have come to the right place for lots of helpful info and support - we all 'get it' here!

What meds are you currently on for your crohns? We do have a fistula/abscess sub forum that is worth checking out to get any advice/just have a chat about these: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=76.

Will be keeping fingers crossed that you can be feeling better soon.

Welcome to the forum! :)

I'm glad you're feeling better about having Crohn's. It can be embarrassing, but when you see other people dealing with the same thing it usually helps! Just remember, you have absolutely no reason to be embarrassed, especially here!

Like Angrybird asked, what medications are you taking?

Thanks guys, right now im just finishing up my cipro/flagyl but im taking asacol as well, but i feel like it really doesnt do anything for me. Im in the middle of finding a new GI because the one i had really made me second guess things about him

Hi there:) Welcome to the forum - I am so glad you decided to join us!!

I agree with David and strongly urge you to find a GI doc who perhaps specializes in IBD. To help heal and close the fistulas, Remicade would be great. You would benefit greatly from being on more meds than you are right now, to help close the fistulas and get you into remission. Studies have shown that it is best to hit it hard right from the beginning, to keep you in a lasting remission.

If you have any questions whatsoever, don't hesitate for a moment to drop us a line, and we will all give you our best advice:)

Ive been looking for a new GI i just cant find the right one, i found a great surgeon but i need to be put on some meds because i just want to start feeling better again. I used to go to the gym 5 days a week, feeling great wasnt on any medications and then it struck again out of the blue. Any suggestions for a gi in staten island or in that area? Thank you for the support !!

Hi and welcome.
If you are willing to go to Manhattan, Mount Sinai has GI docs who specialize in IBD.

Yes! That is where my surgeon is, dr. Alex ky so far shes been good. But i am going to try and find one from there,

Hello Jdam, like you i am new to forums, i have had crohns all my life but only diagnosed 6 yrs ago. It really scares me. I too had a fistula before crohns was picked up. After loads of steroids that didnt work, and azathioprine, that made me ill, i am now taking pentasa, that i tried to swallow whole,lol:sign0085: they are fine, but a yr ago i was put on Humira injections which scare the hell out of me. Side effects. I hate having crohns it can be very embarrassing especially at work, my boss is very unsympathetic so i feel really smug when i have an appt' at the hospital and he has to pay me. I would like to ask if you have had picolax? 2nd colonoscopy coming up soon and i refused kleen prep nasty poison.

Hey christina welcome to the site, best thing ive done. How have you been feeling with humira? I was suppose to start that but i left my gi he was terrible. I used to never be able to swallow pills until i was diagnosed its hard!! No i have never had tht i had before. Feel better goodluck wih the colonoscopy.

Hi Jdam. Humira is good,it works really well but the list of side effects is quite long and it can cause certain cancers. It makes you wander if its worth it really. Colonoscopy didnt happen. I cudnt keep the kleen prep down so they are re-booking and sending picolax which is much better. How is everything with you? Its quite scary this crohns stuff. I have found you get pushed from pillar to post. Your doctor blames everything on your crohns and my specialist says "see your g.p". If you get a cold yoy must go to the docs. I dont know where to turn half the time.lol. Anyway we must keep smiling and holding it together. Let me know how you are getting on. Chin up.xx

Hello new forum members! I'm new to this too but have found it VERY comforting and reassuring that I'm not alone or crazy:wink: I too have had rectal fistulas and man they hurt!!! Not to mention the embarrassing surgery! I too am struggling to find a GI that seems to give me the attention I need. My GI doc i had for years retired and he was like a best friend. Im in the Milwaukee,WI area if anyone has any suggestions. Hang in there all you crohnies, we have a shitty disease!!
