My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed with Crohns on the 24th July, immediately went on antibiotics for 2 weeks and started Fortisip last Tuesday. She is having awful urgency around 3-4 in the morning, this is new and I was wondering if it is the antibiotics rather than Crohns. She wants to give up on the diet NOW but asshe is quite mild I would really like her to give it a good go. Any experiences similar or advice would be really helpfully to us both

Hi Kitty t

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter.:ghug:

What antibiotics is she on ?
Sometimes Flagyl can cause diarrhea.

Hi kitty, I was in fortisips b4 and found they didn't help me, I'm 24 though so my immune response could be different, if she's not seeing an improvement by the end of the first week, or getting worse I would say maybe you should ask the GI for a short course of pred to get the inflammation down, then you need a maintenance med after that.

EEN takes about the same amount of time to work as pred so don't expect results over night.

DS did EEN for 9 weeks . the beginning is the hardest.

Jae's first 3 weeks with her Ensure drinks were rocky, but she switched to a different formula and got much better. I've heard some formulas can cause stool changes - that was the case for Jae too.

Hi, sorry to hear about your daughter. It is definitely worth perservering with the EN. My son did the 8 weeks exclusive EN (we did Modulen which is supposed to be anti-inflammatory as well) with the NG tube as he hated the taste. It certainly got rid of all his symptoms for a good few months. Hope she manages to keep going.

Thank you for all the words of support. It all got a bit much for us last night when she was up 7 times but in one of those moments when wide awake working things out decided to stop Asasol and Omeprozole as thought it more likely it was meds rather than Fortisip. Spoke with specialist nurse who was far more helpful than other one and advised that Asasol can often cause these problems, why did no one say this before. So no more of that and fingers crossed for the next couple of nights
