Chris, you seem like you're very handy - could you perhaps build yourself one of those tiny houses? That way you could park it on your parents' property during good times, or move it elsewhere if things aren't going well with them. Just a thought. The hubby and I have been thinking about either building or renovating a teardrop camper so that we could travel but always have a bed and toilet (we'd have to have a bathroom in it, that's non-negotiable) with us.

Chris, it's a very hard situation you are in. But I'm sure you are a big help to them as they are to you. I hope things improve xx

Happy thanksgiving everyone:)

The word "sheriff" comes from "shire reeve".In feudal England each shire (county) had a reeve who upheld the law for that shire....just in case you were wondering.

Happy thanksgiving to all the US peeps ☺

Chris that sounds tough. Its hard to live with parents once you have been in your own home. My son is currently back with me. He finds it hard and so do i tbh. I got used to my own space and a tidy house... that has gone outa the window now as he is so untidy it drives me mad. I couldnt see him homeless tho, so i have to compromise some n so does he. We rub along ok most of the time ☺ i say it wont be forever... least i hope not 🤔. Try not to take it to heart, us oldies get grumpy n dont mean it really. Hang in there bud 💕

Thanks everyone for your support. :ghug:

I like the tiny house on wheels idea Cat. The hard part is trying to save anything while on disability. Anything I own that would have to be titled and insured would be counted as an asset. Then if you have too many assets they expect you to sell some or all to pay your own way. I'm still struggling through the process of receiving PWD- Person With Disabilities status. The government makes it really hard to sort your way through all the hoops and hurdles and there is a ton of confusing paperwork. Hopefully if I fill everything out correctly, I may be in a different situation then. Yes, I could build a house, it's a way easier to follow the building code than anything to do with receiving help from the government.

Hello all, I hope that everyone in the U.S. had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that everyone else has a great day thinking good thoughts for all.

Hi all, again so much I want to say, but letting you know I very much appreciate this place and all of you, too overwhelmed with life to say much more right now.
I will say this, Madhu,
congrats-you-are-pregnant.gif

Thanks Sandy [emoji4][emoji4]

Mandy, is Jaxon living with you now too? That must be fun [emoji6]

The human body contains enough fat to make seven bars of soap....unless it's Pavarotti then it's thirty one. (Sorry Pav. but you know I love you)

Mandy,we'd just get a little squirt of Fairy liquid out of you.:rof::rof::rof:

:rof: Carol you crack me up ...

Madhu no Jaxon is with his mum but stays at mine approx 3 days/nights a week n Niall goes up and stays there a couple of nights most weeks.
It is fun but hard work he is a little terror 😃. I love it when i get up in the morning and see his smiling face, makes the effort all worthwhile☺

Love hugs n best wishes to all 💞💝

Haha I'm sure! xx

Just thought I would stop by and say hi. Had a decent Thanksgiving with Sandy, her brother, and my brother. Just a small get together. Went to a movie today, so things are pretty good. Going fishing tomorrow.

Hi Doug . Glad you had a good thanks giving. Hope you enjoyed the film and didnt fall asleep part way thro as i usualy do ☺. Have fun fishing tomorrow. Love n hugs to you and Sandy. 💞

Madhu it sure is ☺.
When my son was little i could have throttled him at times but as soon as he was asleep id look at him and see an angel or he would do or say something that made me laugh and all the thoughts of throttling him would vanish ☺☺ kids have a way of inducing murderous thoughts one minute to laughter the next.. i also used watch him sleep and feel the most uncondictional strongest feeling of love iv ever known and find tears would fall down my face because of that love. so be prepared 😁 its a rollorcoaster ride 💞

Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well, or at least a little better. :) Glad you are going fishing Doug. Hugs to Mandy, the little youngsters are a hand full. ;)

Grumpy, Mandy ... well, everyone, thank you all for your kind words of late. It really helps.
(I know, this is from awhile back but have to reply)
Do you ride motorcycles or snowmobiles Doug? Or have you ever?
I want a scooter sooooo bad! I think Doug is afraid I'd crash tho... (I probably would. :ytongue:) And answering for Doug (correct me if you have a secret life I don't know about, Doug), he's not really into motorcycles and such. But everyone in Utah has at least been on a snowmobile, if they don't own one or two, ---except me. I know I would love snowmobiling though. Doug, can we at least go somewhere and rent one for a day this winter? Can we? Can we? Pweeeeeze?
And Chris, I'm sorry things have been difficult with your parents. We've all seen how much you do for them, Mr. Porch Builder. Parents tend to get more and more stuck in their ways as they get older, and more ornery, and forget such things as children helping them. Like Mandy said, don't take it to heart. Carol's right too, tho, do what you need to to take care of yourself.

As to the fishing, I noticed awhile ago Doug said it was too cold. It's definitely not too cold now, record warm temps going on, so off to fishing (no yaks) tomorrow. I was going to try to talk him into it even if it was colder... Doug got Dave his fishing license online today.
Cat, I'm excited for your job prospects! Somehow, if you get that job you want, I would find it ironic that a person with an IBD, anyone with GI issues, would be working for a company that deals with stool samples (even if it is cancer screening.) :ylol::ylol:
(BTW Cat, we went thru a similar furnace fiasco a couple of years ago. I'm glad you got a new one, as did we, much better to be safe and warm.)
Madhu, how are you feeling? Are you morning sick?
Ron, are you feeling any better?
Shanen, how are you?
Carol, I think you probably better hold off altogether on the soap making for Mandy while she has Jaxon around as much as she does, there can't be anything left of her, not even half of a teaspoon of fairy liquid. (And I love the rich tones of "Pav" too!)
Mandy, how's the cold?
Carol, what would we do without you?

Haha that's so funny. I'm sure it's going to be exactly like that [emoji16]

Madhu, how are you feeling? Are you morning sick?

I'm feeling good, Sandy. I'm still too early, so no morning sickness yet. Nausea keeps coming in waves though, may be preparing me for what is to come [emoji16] I'm trying to embrace all the symptoms and appreciate it, especially because we tried so long for this kiddo. But I just woke up after a very uncomfortable night of trying to sleep on my left and my back is absolutely killing me [emoji24][emoji24] this is going to be a fun 9 months!

Good to see you back from hibernation. Keep up with us [emoji6][emoji6]

if you yelled for 8yrs 7mnths and 6days you would generate enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee....hardly seems worth it,does it ? ( and did everyone except the yeller wear ear protectors for that length of time while carrying out this test ?)

I feel like it's not so much ironic as it is super appropriate. :p I honestly can't think of a better place for me to work at! I'd be doing customer service, so I've already got plenty of empathy for the customers who'd be doing these stool tests and calling me with questions about it. And I have like 6 years call center experience too so I'm pretty sure I'll get the job (honestly not sure whether it'd help me or hurt me to mention that I have gut issues - for now I have not told them anything about that).

And honestly, I need this job to start already (if I get it, the start date wouldn't be until Jan 22nd). I just got my COBRA bill in the mail for my health insurance, and it's so confusing. Both hubby and I read through the info, and neither of us understands it, so I'm just going to have to call on Monday. The confusion is that the bill says that for the first 6 months, I pay the employee rate, and then after that I pay the full rate. But, the bills seems to be for the full rate - it's $1000 vs about $250 for the employee rate. I sure cannot afford $1000 per month, especially after just racking up another $3000 in debt for the furnace. Ugh ugh ugh. I admit, I cried when I saw that bill. I haven't gotten my severance check yet either, so I'm incredibly poor at the moment. Xmas is one month away and I can't afford to buy gifts - I'm currently trying to do mostly hand-made gifts, thank goodness I can sew & crochet, but it's still depressing as hell. I'm in a bad place right now. Hopefully on Monday things will be cleared up and look better. In the meantime it's a bit of a weepy weekend though. Ugh.

really hope that you get the new job Cat , crossing fingers toes and legs , it would be a great start to a new year and hopefully a healthy one for you , give Lily a rub for me ,

ps new puppy arriving next Wednesday , I'm really winning.

ps Cat dont worry about giving gifts at Christmas , its not about gifts and people forget about what Christmas is really all about , your family and close friends will not care and as for everyone else when it comes down to it they dont really count .

Sandy sorry you had a bad experience on another forum , just remember there are idiots everywhere and they are not worth the time or the energy to worry about or loose sleep over , and karma is a great leveller , it will always come around and give a full dose to those deserving of it and in the meantime don't let the b@@&****s grind you down .

Best luck in getting this job, Cat. I am sorry for your experience on the other forum, Sandy.

Tony, unfortunately I cannot forgo giving gifts at xmas. Hubby's sister has 5 kids, so there are 3 nieces and 2 nephews, all between ages 4 and 14. I can't not give those kids gifts. I'm doing okay with handmade gifts, though. I've crocheted hats for just about everybody I know (in real life, I'd give you guys hats too if you all lived closer!). Just today I sewed a pillow for hubby's sister and I'm going to sew some pillows for hubby's parents too, and I'm also going to sew a pair of pajama pants in cute sushi fabric for my mother. So, I'm getting there. Just having a rough day with financial worries getting to me.

I can't wait to see photos of the new puppy! Do you have a name picked out yet for the pup? Lily is still doing okay, she had a good morning today. Hubby finished a jar of peanut butter which meant that Lily got the jar to lick, that made her very happy. And she had steak for lunch again too. No matter how poor I am, she's always going to have yummy treats.

Madhu you can lay bets it will ☺
For all the downs the ups are priceless hun. I totaly get you saying you will embrace the trials of pregnancy. This baby will one of the most wanted on the planet so in a way how could you not embrace them. I did even tho i had no trouble getting pregnant. I am soooo happy for you that you have got this baby coming. Bless you all 3 of you ☺💞💞

Tony aw how nice you have a new pup on the way. May you enjoy many happy times together 💕

Cat im sorry that you are so worried on the money front. I know how hard it can be to be not working when bills keep piling in. Try and hang in there as im sure things will work out somehow. Hope so very much you get the new job and your severance check comes real soon.

Carol yes the people who did the test wore ear protectors.. .how do i know this you may ask??

I was the one doing the yelling !!!!
:rof:

Unfortunately, once you COBRA your insurance, you are responsible for the entire premium - including what your employer used to pay. :(

https://www.verywell.com/how-much-does-cobra-health-insurance-cost-1738554

MissL, I'm still confused though, because they specifically told me (verbally and in writing) that for the first 6 months, I only pay the employee rate for COBRA. After 6 months then I would pay the full amount. But it is the full amount listed on the bill. The letter that came with the bill specifically says:

If you elect to receive the optional severance benefit, your cost for medical,
prescription drug, dental, vision and EAP (if applicable) will continue at the employee rate for the first six months of your COBRA eligibility period, with a beginning effective date of December 1, 2017.

And I did tell HR that I want the optional severance. Maybe some wires got crossed somewhere. I will call them tomorrow and hopefully clear things up. Stupidly, I got the letter on Friday and I know that my former workplace closed on Black Friday, so I just got to sit around and worry for several days before I can actually talk to someone about my COBRA. Ugh.

Shanen, how are you?

I'm doing well Sandy and hope the same for you. Thanksgiving giving company leaving today. It was nice to spend time with family but it's been a houseful and I'm rather looking forward to putting the house back together and catching up on laundry before it's back to work tomorrow. My mother has back surgery Tuesday and my husband has shoulder surgery on Wednesday so I'll be spending a good share of midweek in waiting rooms.

Hope your COBRA questions are sorted out in you favor tomorrow Cat. It's a lot of stress worrying about it.

Hi Shanen. Glad you are doing well ☺ hope the surgeries go well and their recovery is quick and as painless as possible 💞

Where have all the snowflakes Flown......no snow here so far...

To A Snowflake

What Heart could have thought you
Past our devisal
O filigree petal
Fashioned so purely
Fragilely, surely
From what paradisal
Imagineless metal
Too costly for cost.
Who hammered you..wrought you
From argentine vapor..?
God was my shaper
Passing surmisal
He hammered,He wrought me
From curled silver vapor
To lust of His mind
Thou couldn’t not have thought me!
So purely,so palely
Tinily, surely,
Mightily, Frailly,
Insculped and embossed
With His hammer of wind
And His graver of frost.

Evening all: What Trysha said with a couple of additions:

Trysha, I hope that the light at the end of the tunnel keeps burning bright, cmack, have a wonderful week - I went back last night and read the humor forum and I have to say you have a wicked sense of humor and you and Carol could be very dangerous together. I hope that this week brings better health and happiness to all.

Trysha glad to hear that things are on the up for you. About time girl you've had a rough patch of late. Take care n best wishes 💞

Just getting ready for work. Why cant mornings start in the afternoon 😃 Im sending love n hugs to all :ghug:

It's only 9-50am and I'm bored !!! It's quite cold, 5c. and breezy.Cycling, maybe, shopping, maybe,Far too early to settle down with a book.We walked to the Sunday market in the village yesterday and it was HELL. We will not be going again until the festive season is well and truly over. The only shopping I will be doing until the middle of January,is food shopping,,,,,,you can tell I'm full of festive spirit can't you ? Back later when I've cheered up.

Some cultures have tsunamis ,earthquakes etc..,.......we have Christmas shopping.....I
agree with you Carol but find if I shop at the crack of dawn it is a bit quieter.
It is not the true meaning of Christmas sadly.
But everything will turn out alright on the day....anything beats spending it in hospital..perish the thought.
It is a cold super sunny day for us today...I know the snow is not far from us....sufficient
unto the day.....etc....
Good news from the Palace at last....happy days for everyone to look forward to...
Nothing like a royal wedding to enrich all the stores and create up beat moods.
Anyone feel like shopping with me for a suitable 🎩 hat to wear on the day...just a thought...
Time for a win....

Christmas shopping is the work of the devil😈

Hope all have/had a good day love n hugs 💞💝

I got my Cobra figured out. Phew! Several phone calls and emails later, I got an answer and fortunately it's a good answer. They didn't have my paperwork fully processed in the system yet, which is why the system-generated letter said I had to pay the full amount. I do in reality only have to pay the employee amount, which is what I had been told and what I was hoping for (it's a difference of paying $300 per month vs paying over $1000 per month!). So, yay, I will have health insurance until I lock down a new job! :)

And on that note, there are 2 companies wooing me right now. Both look pretty good to me. One is a slight front-runner, but both are still in the running. I'm honestly not sure which one to work for. Both companies look great - they treat their people well, are making lots of money, encourage work-life balance, etc. The company that does the stool samples is still the front-runner - I interviewed with their recruiter today, and he said glowing things about me (I was at my previous company for nearly 15 years, and I guess people my age don't really do that anymore, nobody stays with one company for more than a few years, so that's massively in my favor that I was with the same company for so long). I'm interviewing with the second company tomorrow. It's more of a sales oriented job, but they seem to treat their salespeople really well and offer great commissions and pay - the money sounds fantastic to me. And there's no cap on commissions. People can make a boatload of bucks.

It might all come down to healthcare, though. The stool sample company is affiliated with Mayo Clinic and they seem to offer better health insurance. The sales job has an HMO as their health insurance. I've never had an HMO, I've always had a PPO, so presumably I'd have to get all new doctors on an HMO and I don't really want to do that.

Has anyone had an HMO? If so, can you clue me in as to how exactly they work? I mean, with the extra money, I could probably just pay out of pocket to still see my same doctors, I'm sure they take cash. So there's that. Money vs healthcare, with a chronic illness healthcare has the edge, but the money sure is tempting too. What would you guys do?

Tony! He's adorable! I want to squish his fluffy cheeks! Please give him all the pets and cuddles on my behalf!

Aaarrrggghh! Every time I start a post lately it gets outdated by the time I finish it, but instead of deleting as I've done lately, I'll just revise a little.
Tony, your dog is absolutely perfect! I'm a little envious, happy for you though.
Carol, Mandy, Trysha, I agree with the shopping aspects mentioned, I hate the stores this time of year, actually always have, but I still love the gift giving. I'm feeling a little smug because I did all my Christmas shopping on line, the day before thanksgiving. There is already one gift I have to return, it is a rod/reel fishing combo for Dave, it came with just a small piece of the reel, the rest broken off and missing. (Of course it was fishing related.:ycool:)
Cat, I wish I could answer HMO questions, but I don't have much knowledge in that regard. I do think that most HMOs offer a plan, for a higher fee of course, to use doctors out of their plan. I'm glad you got the cobra problem worked out though.
Must go for now. I'm in the middle of cooking a traditional turkey dinner (just the turkey breast for us three), partly because I wanted it for leftovers, etc., and partly because of a little pressure from Dave, who just doesn't understand how hard it is for me. He would have accepted it if I didn't cook at all on or around thanksgiving, but he would have been disappointed and not understood, but as said, he would have accepted it, so it really is in me. Be back when I can.
Now, let's see if I can manage to send Christmas cards this year. It would be the first time in years if I do.

My husband says he has the body of a Greek god....I had to explain where Buddha actually came from.

Last word on Christmas, shopping or otherwise. Most of you will know that I don't DO Christmas at all.I send a few cards to special people, but this might be the last year I do that.So really,it shouldn't irritate me as badly as it does. Most people are stressed to hell with the whole business and spend cash they can ill afford,so why not tone it down ? Tell every one next summer that you're not doing it next year and keep telling them 'til they get the message.Have a bring your own buffet and if you must, buy cheap, silly presents and put them in a bin for folk to help themselves.

Carol love the bin idea might opt for that next year. I have bought some already for this one,but next year im going in the bin haha☺

Tony...give him to me right now!!! I want Alfie ☺ aw he is such a cutie. We have such lovely dogs on this forum. Hope you 2 have a blast.

Cat i no sod all about health insurance but go for the job you feel you will enjoy the most. As is said "if you do a job you enjoy you'll never work a day in your life". If you enjoy it it wont seem a chore to go to work.
Best of luck with whichever you choose hun 💞💝

Sandy oh no!!! The broke fishing gear what the dickens ?? How very dare they send you something broken. Do they not no who you are!!! The Queen of the forum should not receive broken goods.
Oh well back to reality... still not on tho is it 😞💞

Love to all you lovely peeps n big hugs 💕💕:ghug:

I am definitely feeling the pain when it comes to the cost of xmas gifts. So I've decided to mostly make gifts this year. In-laws are getting camping-themed handmade pillows and a blanket for the camper that they're going to buy. Sis-in-law is also getting a custom pillow, with pockets for her phone and whatever else, because she always brings her phone to bed with her. My mom is getting pajama pants in a cute sushi fabric (we still talk about our Japan trip all the time, and that was 1.5 years ago already). Etc. I already have tons of fabric, yarn, etc plus I'm not working at the moment, so I have the time and materials to do it.

So, job situation update, it looks like both jobs that I'm interested in offer an HMO as their health insurance. But I did a bit of digging and it looks like I probably can keep my same GI (not GP though) on an HMO. So that should be relatively okay, I think.

I got offered a job today at my #2 job of choice, but I didn't accept it yet as I'm still waiting for confirmation that I can work at my #1 choice (which is the stool sample place). It sounds like I'm a shoo-in though and we're just waiting for people to process paperwork, etc. And they have a temp position which has essentially been earmarked for me until the permanent position starts in late January, sooo, with any luck I will hopefully be starting a new job very soon! I know you guys are excited for me, ha ha, you guys of all people understand how important stool samples are! ;)

Congrats Cat! That's fabulous news! You deserve it.
Love the new puppy Tony. It is so adorable and looks so cuddly.

Christmas...grrrrrrr. I dislike how commercial and greedy the holiday has become. Increases stress tremendously and decreases one's wallet as well. Some of my girlfriends and I are not exchanging gifts anymore. We set an amount and are donating it to children's funds. Several of us grew up with the generosity of others as our families could not afford Christmas. A couple are upset...they miss the shopping. 😠 So I told them to remove tags of children's wishes from the local giving tree and shop away for them.

Cat so pleased that the job front is going well. Hope the num 1 job comes good for you now. Also glad that the health care is sorted 💞

Love to all 💞💝

Carol answer to questions
1 Nobody knows
2 Cause they can
3 Who cares what the special occasion is...

Have i won a prize ???

I think the prize is just the knowledge of all of that. :p

Unemployment has broken my brain. I keep thinking it's Saturday. And I still haven't gotten my severance check so I'm super poor at the moment (haven't gotten my unemployment pay yet either). But hubby got paid so I went grocery shopping today which made me feel so spendy! It was like, do I really need food? :p

Cat...yes you really need food 😉hope the payment n check are soon in your hands hunnie 💞

Hi grumpy. Hope you are well too. Nice to see you popping in ☺💕

We've had the first snow here for 3-4 years, this morning.Hubby was so excited he leapt out of bed and took photos to send to Scott in OZ.He's just been for the daily paper and his excitement has somewhat abated. It's minus 1c and.the gently falling snow has now turned to blizzard conditions.:cool2:

Carol...you started it,!,.......anyway it’s too cold for those items of clothing.(.now stored till summer.)***ha!ha!
Our snow is still on hold....don’t know where it ended up..although I see St Albans Herts Uk
had it first snowfall a few days ago...I don’t believe it’s a customary export from Canada.
Madhu ..glad to see you are winning

Sorry Ron, we won. We even have the prize, and here he is. (LOW has gone to the dogs.) We've been tempted for weeks, but finally gave in to our temptations, and hoping my allergies don't get the best of me. Meet Casper our new little friend.
(He likes to watch tv, particularly when he sees a dog on it.)

Hi Madhu, any sickness or cravings yet ?......You are free to send your dear hubby for any thing you crave, at any hour of the day or night...Make the most of it......:ghug:
Haha no sickness yet, thank God. But I do crave for certain foods. Hubby is skeptical because he says I used to crave food even before pregnancy [emoji23] he says I'm just using the baby as an excuse to eat whatever I already used to.

So good to see the new puppies Tony, Sandy and Doug. Lots of cuddles and belly rubs :)

Sandy and Doug, congrats on the new pupper! Lily likes TV when there's dogs on it as well, or especially wolves. There was once a wolf special on PBS, with a scene where all the wolves were howling. Lily almost never tilts her head the way that some dogs do, but when she heard the wolves howling, she walked right up to the TV speaker and tilted her head back and forth repeatedly, like she was trying to understand what the wolves were saying to her. The call of the wild I guess?

Tony, how's your new pup doing? Has he gotten into any messes yet?

Madhu, it's good to hear that you haven't had any sickness yet, I hope that continues! And as for cravings or just eating what you want, I say go for it! You're eating for two so I see no need to hold back. Eat what you want and don't feel guilty about it during this time!

Mandy...if you need warm socks I’ll send you some together with some thermal unmentionables ........remember that film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers the scene with bright red thermals......well similar to that...hillbilly style...
Sandy...just love your new pooch...
Tony...I expect you will be very engrossed with your new family member...he looks lovely.
A dull miserable day today....bought some cheer up Vit B Complex pills...expecting miracles by tomorrow...or the day after...?.?
Winning......

Thanks Cat. Did you decide on which job to take yet?

Love to all. Sorry I'm so technology challenged but I'm posting my newest pic of my grandbaby. He's so stinking cute I can't help it.

Epic fail. Can't remember how to post a pic.
