This once proud country is quickly becoming an international joke.
I won't go into the Brexit fracas or the comedians who are ruining this land, but I will mention that an idiot with a drone put one of our busiest airports in lockdown yesterday, from early morning until the late news last night.Don't know if it's been sorted yet.The army was on stand by,hundreds of flights cancelled and thousands of folk going home for xmas were sleeping on the airport floor. So if anyones expecting family from the UK I'd hold off putting the turkey in the oven if I were you.

It was on the TV news last night, I have long worried about the potential for malicious attacks drones pose. We live in crazy times.

Madhu I hope everything is well.

Today is the winter solstice; I'll enjoy the longest evening of the year with the wood furnace running, with a glass of scotch in my hand and a big cat on my lap.

That's more like it Buff.Your weather post had me quite exhausted reading of all your Spring chores.....chillax.:)

Try holding onto the axe and chainsaw, now that can get tiring, but at the same time it is satisfying to see the pile grow.

At times I wish I could use my inner forces to make the chainsaw take flight and cut all the wood like a flying drone, and for all the wood to land into a neat pile.

The trouble with Inventing stuff to do the chores for us is,what would we all do instead ?
I don't think any of us are the" Sit around type picking fluff out of our belly buttons"...nice to dream though.
Bad news re: Krakatoa eruption and tsunami.Things are getting really scarey on earth now.

Thank you everyone for your wishes. We are back home and adjusting to life with a newborn. Which is quite tough, I'm learning:) but we are so smitten. I hope everyone is keeping as well as you can [emoji173][emoji173]

Glad you're both at home Madhu. It is tough,I agree, but before you know it that babe will be going to school, working and getting married and you'll wonder where the time went. You get all the rest you can when you can. You'll soon get into a routine. And don't worry to much.Do it your own way.x

Madhu...hard work but worth it. Listen to Carol her advice is spot on. Hope you have a fab christmas with the best present ever, little darling Laya 🙂😍

Wishing everyone a great christmas and a very happy new year.
Many thanks to all for the love and support. Biggest hugs and loves. Xxxxxx 💕💕💕💕

Merry Christmas everybody! I hope you all have a great holiday.

We are having family over tonight, some staying overnight. And what was the first thing we had to do this morning? Take Sandy to the doctor because she has developed an Urinary Tract Infection. We have a lot of stuff to do and I am dragging myself, as well as Sandy not being up to it. Please pray for Sandy. I know she is over doing it, and there is nothing I can do except help get the house ready. I know I cannot talk her out of it.

I think I might get a pair of binoculars... I've been borrowing mom's set. I wouldn't want to ever hand them back in pieces though. I can sometimes be rough on the equipment...;)

Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night! (according to our time zone)

Happy Christmas (Happy Hanukkah belatedly and Happy Holidays) to everyone here , I haven't been posting as much as I should but thanks for everyone whose posts has cheered me up when I was down , this forum and the people on it are a lifeline for advice and just sometimes someone to listen , thanks all of you from the bottom of my heart , I wish everyone here a peaceful holiday and if at all possible a healthier new year ,
Ron if you are checking in , thanks for all the support , Doug hope Sandy is ok , Carol thanks for all the laughs and everyone else THANKS SO MUCH

Doug sending hugs to you both.
Mandy....catch up on your rest, and the three of you ,and Madhu,do only what's absolutely necessary,,,delegate, delegate, delegate.
Tony, nice to see you, have a good festive holiday. And the rest of our cronhie family, peace, contentment and hugs to you all too.x

Cheers to all, I hope everyone had a good one. I might have had a little too much to eat, and will go work it off on the ski trail. Nothing like some ' left n right' up the ol ski trail on a sunny day.

Ah now!! i could do with my behind being welded to the sofa. Chance would be a fine thing, feel like iv barely sat down since about august 🤔.

I need 6 months on a dessert island and i dont even want a man friday....or any other day :rof:

Mount Etna has erupted today.4 point 5 and some serious damage. It is the most active volcano in Europe.....I could weep also about Japan resuming whale fishing (is fishing the right word ?)

I heard the volcano may be settling down. I sure do hope so anyhow. Man... who seriously needs to eat freakin whale parts? No offense if there is a good enough reason though. I could fully understand if they were Inuit or hunter gatherers. All is well here and I'm hoping the best for everybody. (the whales included)

Yes,I know we should accept that cultures etc. have different views, and as I've said before if you're poor and have to kill to eat, then so be it.But whale hunting is uneccessary as is eating dogs.I mean, who's THAT hungry.I've been almost meat free for more than a year now and I think maybe now is the time to stop eating anything with a face....prawns excepted.

Ooops before I forget..To everyone I sent a book to for Christmas, they're due back at the library on Monday.

Japan is a country of cultural extremes; on one end they are a highly advanced society, but on the other they hold old ancient cultures, and whaling is one of them. Nearly every country has its environmental legacy; for Japan it is whaling, in Canada it is forestry, and whats becoming of our forests is a disgrace.

I'm just watching Heavy Haulage Quebec. An ice fisher sank his SUV into the ice. While the recovery guys were busy there were about 30 ice fishers standing on the ice watching with interest...were you one of them ???

Yes Carol !l..?..where else would I be to while away the winter clime.....

The ice fishermen have been out in force here, but now they had better be careful with the new blanket of heavy snow that is now insulating the ice which will cause slush and those dangerous vent holes that can drown snowmobilers.

As the saying goes 'check the ice out before setting out'.

It’s just as well then Bufford that I prefer not to walk on water since I can’t swim ...neither do I like skating on thin ice...
Tried both in real life...give me a balmy summer day any time..
Never went shopping on Boxing Day...never learnt how to box..
Just wondering what the New Year May bring.....wish it would be Peace throughout the 🌎
world.
Cheers Everyone !

I agree with World Peace Trysha but I can't see that happening in our lifetime, if ever.

It's unseasonably mild here at 11c....it's not natural. But our winters are usually worse in Jan / Feb so no doubt it'll be on the way.I hate those two months more than any others. Not much to look forward to until March.I should maybe go on a cruise but as I can't swim either I'd spend the whole trip wearing a life jacket and having my meals served while sitting in a life boat....I did swim in our son's pool in Australia but that's another story

There will never be peace when the whole world has become one big cage controlled by a few people holding all the power.
At least I am out in the rural wilderness though it is shriveling away.
I can now embrace the winter with the big snow fall the other day. I spent the afternoon digging out. The new track on the snowmobile is very good, great traction. The old one would not have worked in this kind of snow and would have just been spinning. Its almost like having a brand new snowmobile.

Colder -25C this morning under brilliant cobalt blue skies, no problems with biting flies or any other four legged vermin.

Carol...we spent Seven days on the P&0 Liner..Carinthia...when we sailed to Canada.
The first day at sea we had lifeboat drill...very serious stuff that...and we donned our life jackets and lined up on deck to be inspected...guess who was in trouble for tying the life
jacket cords into a bow....which the officer undid.I had tied it automatically that way and did not know why he made such a fuss. The foghorn was blowing the first few days.
The innocence and ignorance of youth.
I was seasick all the way there ...better when I stopped taking the seasick pills!! until we docked in Quebec City 🌃 🌃 where
We had to spend an extra day or so to repair a hole in the ships side made by an iceberg.
Two thirds of an iceberg is submerged so it’s tricky navigating those waters.
We sailed through the very beautiful Straits of Bell Isle and presumably this is where it happened....we all had heard a scrunch and a lurch but then the ship kept sailing ⛵⛵
so did not think anything of it till we were in port and the captain made the announcement
of a delay for repairs due to a hole in the ships side made by an iceberg.
Following due processing by customs and immigration we were allowed to get off the ship and
have a tour of Quebec City...after which we continued to Montreal to complete final destinations.
Never needed to swim anywhere ...good thing since I would have sunk and you would not have heard this important piece of history....(ha..ha )
Another time I’ll tell you about the planes emergency landing in the Bahamas on our way back from vacation in Florida..
One episode is enough from the Perils of Pauline.....
Our snow is also MOA this 🥶 winter BUT who knows what tomorrow may bring......
Have a good day Everyone...
Winning...

Ah now you non swimmers worry about being in water and unable to swim....well i worry about being in an airplane coz i cant fly!!! At least you have a chance to float till someone picks you up. In a plane a life jackets as much use as a chocolate fireplace if the plane goes down over land...iv always said you shud get a parachute too 🤔🤔🤔 wonder why you dont ??

Big loves to all 💕💕💕

Captain Sullenberger safely landed a disabled passenger aircraft 155 passengers aboard
into the Hudson River,Manhattan....New York...Mandy
Birds had been sucked into both engines...stalled the engines.
Every person aboard saved plus crew due to his cool actions in the face of the engine failure...he was a great hero at that time to save all those lives.
I think he stopped flying afterwards and wrote a book about it all.
Lifejackets came in handy...parachutes would not have saved anyone.
I followed the tense situation from my hospital bed at ....where else would I be..and......what else would I do with time...
There will be good reasons for no parachutes I imagine...but good thinking Mandy.

I recall that happening Trysha. I imagine the good reason to be, that if the planes going down over land, there would be very little or no time to get people out with parachutes, also that opening the plane doors would make it crash quicker, if they could even be opened at that stage.. maybe planes could be fitted with ejector seats like fighter planes 🙂
I do get why they dont do parachutes not practical really. Just my little musing 🙂🙂💕💕

I remember the incident well and also watched the movie Sully...…

Here's a "I DON'T BELIEVE IT" note....In yesterdays daily paper it has been noticed by some readers that EASTER EGGS are on the shelves of some shops !!!

I remember way back when we took our first trip to Jamaica flying down when the pilot announced that he had to shut down one of the four engines while flying over the Bahama islands,I think it was a 707. It was fine at the time, but shortly the pilot announced that a second engine had to be shut down. At this point things got quiet in the aircraft and the flight attendant's face said it all as she was pale and looking terrified. We made an emergency landing on one of the Bahama islands. I saw my first palm tree while waiting for the plane to be fiixed. I recall being a bit nervous getting back on the plane to resume the trip

It was a memorable trip, we finally landed in Jamaica late at night and it was quite an adventure as my father had to drive the rental car from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios in the dark where we rented a cabin, hotels were few back in those days.

We didn't expect to arrive in the dark which made the drive more challenging since they drive on the left side, and my father was not used to a standard transmission. Going through the small villages on the way there would only be one street light, and we could see the locals by the road with their machetes. We were not very concerned as violence was not a problem in those days before tourism.

What I remember most were the long walks for miles along the beaches of the coast line that was in its natural wilderness state, no hotels, the only development were a few straw huts and the fishing warfs.

Sounds like we were on the same plane Bufford.
We also visited Jamaica in the early days before it was spoilt with so much tourism etc.
and really enjoyed the holiday and natural surroundings with lovely people there.
The care that waiters took was so lovely.
Had a fall of snow today but it melted in the heat of day...a balmy -1C.....
we’ll surely be deluged sooner or later.....
Winning.....

Tourism is a double edged sword. It boost an economy but causes downsides ie unspoilt areas get spoilt by buildings and then there are people who cause trouble of 1 kind or another.
Id love to visit so many areas of this world, but fear now terrorism and (an old fashioned world) bandits will put me off going if i was able to afford to do so.
Such a shame really, as the whole world could be a better place, with more thought, better management, more tolerance and kindness. On saying that i realise how simple it would be to change things for the better. Why dont others(in said high places and low) see that peace and love are the best ways to go about life. I cant say iv ever heard of someone being killed by kindness, love and peace.

To you all big hugs loves and respect. Hope to find you all having a good day.
:ghug: :ghug:

Trysha, you never know, perhaps we were on the same plane. We were supposed to land in the afternoon in daylight and be able to get to our cabin before dark. We had two maids looking after us, they took care of everything and cooked up a lot of local foods and tried hard to please.

Back then the world was full of hope and promise fueled by the post war boom. Now that has all evaporated and it seems like we have gone a full cycle as if we are coming up to the eve of another war.

Wishing everyone a happy, peaceful and healthy New Year.

Im ending this year on a prayer for all things to be better for everyone and that the world becomes a better place.

Super big hugs and best wishes to all you wonderful, marvelous, amazing people. I love you all.
Many thanks for your love, caring and support. :ghug: :ghug: 💝💖💕

Happy New Year everyone [emoji4] hope 2019 is joyous and disease free for all of you lovely folks. Thank you for always being there for me [emoji173][emoji177]

Madhu. May your new year be filled with fun love and joy that little Laya will bring to your lives. Along with the sleepless nights!! They dont last forever but the love does. Bless you all

My last post has been lost in cyberspace..!!!.
Happy New Year to all you wonderful friends on LOW...!

For many its back to the grind once again. Given the news and the new tax demands coming from our federal government makes me glad that I am not a young person. 2019, I don't know, but 2020 almost sounds like science fiction. Hang in there everyone.

Well im off to buy a pencil now i know that Carol....;)
If my pencil does not do a line 35 miles il be suing :) :)

The moving finger writes
And having writ moves on
Nor all thy piety nor wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a line
Nor all thy tears wash out a word of it

The printer cartridge is the sprinter n the pencil the marathon runner of the stationary olympics 🙂🙂

What can a pencil do for all of us.....
Amazing things...
It can write transcendental poetry,
uplifting music,
or life changing equations;
it can sketch the future,
give life to untold beauty,
and communicate the full force of
our love and aspirations.

she has found a good friend in the same boat and the family says they are like identical twins rolling their wheelchairs down corridors to get places but under watchful eyes of nursing staff.
Than you for asking.....

Ah,well that's better news Trysha eh.? You must feel a wee bit easier in your mind.:)

I've been for a physical for life insurance today
…..but all they would give me was fire and theft.

Your lucky Carol ..all they'd give me was fire, coz they reckoned no one would want to nick me :) :)

Trysha glad there is a status quo and that she has a friend to cheer her along. Mmm sounds as if they might get up to no good tho 😃😃

They wouldn’t give me anything...nothing worth stealing...too hot for fire insurance and
too many issues for life...
It’s a great life if we don’t weaken..
Just returned from a last goodbye to a very good friend...he was ill for many years so it is a release...but we never want to part with our friends and families.
The weather today is absolutely perfect...cool and very sunny with a pale blue sky.
Anyone else following the rants from Trump.....justifying his wall and an insular attitude.

Aw so sorry for your loss hun 💕💕 may he rest in peace 🕊

Been cold and grey here today but not raining so happy days 🙂

Oh iv not heard the orange one ranting on...but i can imagine!!!
He is as mad as a box of frogs 🐸🐸that one.

Time to go to the land of nod for me . My bed is calling me...its abit cheeky if you ask me after iv given it a home 😃😃

Love n hugs to all 💕💖💝

Frogs are not mad They are very cool animals unlike the nameless one with the orange hair.....

O world invisible we view thee
O world intangible we touch thee
O world unknowable we know thee
Inapprehensible we clutch thee

Doe the fish soar to find the ocean
The eagle plunge to find the air
That we ask of the stars in motion
If they have rumour of thee there

Not where the wheeling systems darken
And our benumbed conceiving soars
The drift of pinions would we hearten
Beats at our own clay shuttered doors.

But when so sad thou canst not sadder
Cry,and upon thy so sore loss
Shall find the traffic of Jacobs ladder
Pitched betwixt heaven and Charing Cross

Yea..in the night my soul, my daughter
Cry clinging to heaven by the hems
And lo—Christ walking on the water
Not of Genesareth but Thames.

Sorry for the double post
Did not have the savvy to erase the second one
Another day dawns....the sun is having a lay in today
Sky is foreboding.
Off to the shops...maybe find a bargain or two
Cheers!

Where is everyone hiding....?
No sunshine today and the sky tonight is very foreboding in parts.
Expect you are all packing up after Christmas and storing items for the next one..
TV programmes are a washout and the Trump saga continues......How is it that the opposition is unable to deal with the situation...
It is criminal that people are not getting due wages...

The UK is in a bigger mess than it's ever been.I fear there will be anarchy on the streets very soon...I don't want to get old (er) but I'm very happy not to be a youngster starting out in life and looking forward to a career / work and a first home and kids etc.

Off to the dentists soon ,hopefully the last time until my next check-up in the summer.

I wasn't hiding, but was tied down with life and the stupid family fights. Trysha I am sorry about your loss, sometimes life becomes a rotten deal at times. One doesn't have much choice but to wade through it and come out better for it on the other end of it all.

Im lurking 🙂. Got a week off work yeah!!!
Only thing is iv got to de clutter clean n tidy my whole house its like a bomb site. Not had time to keep on top of it with work n mum duty.
Have done the bathroom, toilet, landing and half of my kitchen today. So im winning 🙂🙂

Love to all 💝💖💕

That’s also the trouble with holidays Mandy and you have double duty with your mum....
hope she’s doing well...
Hope your dental visit went well Carol..
Thanks Bufford...sorry you had some family upsets...hope it’s all sorted now..
That’s why I quite like a solitary life of contemplation and studying the meaning of life
Haven’t found any answers to that by the way but plenty of time yet..
Snowfall today...quite gentle ..not like it usually is this time of year.

I couldn't agree more, Trysh. I quite like a solitary life of contemplation and studying the meaning of life myself. No I haven't found any definitive answers to all my life struggles, but I think I might have improved my decision making by my never ending contemplation. I play life like I play chess... three moves ahead. :)

Chris...that’s very apt.
I am also family oriented ..my family are all in England and we have an amicable distance
between us, they know I’m always there for them.
“Being there” is very important and I know everyone on LOW is “there” for all of us.
However I do enjoy my chosen seclusion....can’t stand crowds.
Snow has changed to ice rain......sooner have snow. Easier to walk in it.
Time to sleep...perchance to dream...

Hi Trysha. We are having freezing rain tonight. Or dog got loose this evening. I went out to get him and fell on the ice 5 times while he made me look like a fool! I really wish it's hard beam snow. It would have been much better traction.

Trysha my mum has finaly got her neck brace off. She still cant stand or walk as she is waiting for the spinal injection. Which we hope is taking place on the 28th as she has an appointment for then at hospital. Fingers crossed it is for that and it helps her. 💕

Chris..Oh for some solitary time, i could do with 6 months total isolation 🙂💕

Oh Doug hope you didnt hurt yourself. Hope our Sandy is ok. 💕

Love n hugs to all :ghug: 💝💖

I am spending delightful afternoons in my garden, watching everything living around me.

Sobering words and deep thoughts Carol......hope you received good dental news and you don’t have to go back for a year...
Doug..you’re a glutton for punishment....falling once..well ok if you must...SIX times is
not allowed and winter has only just started...hope you are all in one piece...do you have any interesting bruises to show off? Feel better soon...
Mandy..I thought your mum was further along in recovery sorryto hear that’s not the case.
Hope things will improve quickly.....onward and upward.....no wonder you are so 😓 tired.
take care.....
Cheers Everyone

I too like solitude and am allergic to crowds, I have had a lot of time to contemplate life and find answers. However the older i get I find that sometimes I find more questions than answers.

No more dentist appts until my six monthly check up...…..I hope. I also have my appt. with GI consultant in two weeks.

I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

Thanks Tysha...she probably would be futher along if the injection had been way back when it should have been done. Yep it sure does not help my fatigue with the extra duties, but what can i do its my mum n i have to be there for her. Just glad i have a sister to share the load. 🙂💕

Hugs n loves to all. :ghug:💝💖

Ok,so who else has broken their New Years Resolution (s) ?

I've bought three books since N.Ys,I've had my hair cut,and I'm still eating chocolate.

There's no hope for me really, except my hairs in a bob and not the usual crop so it is longer than usual.Books and chocolate are life's necessities..I would like to say "at least I tried" but I didn't.

A nap in the middle of the day can do you good.
If you wake up in your P.Js - it's morning
If you wake up in you clothes - it's time for tea.

Well said Carol
I’m sitting here with a cup of tea and fighting a bad cold and nasty cough.
Every so often I have a teaspoon of raw 🍯 🍯 honey.....helps the cough.
At least the sun is shining cheerily so I will go for a short walk to the 🏬 stores
should be able to find something to eat. But it gets harder to see anything that appeals...
Very quiet around LOW these days probably weariness after Christmas and now the cold weather takes hold.....it’s the wind that’s a big challenge...have to be careful not to blow away it’s so strong.

Carol. You could wake up in your pj,s and it could still be tea time...if you couldnt be bothered to get dressed that day:)

Trysha hope the cold clears up quickly 💕

Thanks Mandy
It’s taking its time and the cough is a hacker...
I don’t feel ill though which is a bonus....just can’t keep anough tissues...and I’m halfway through a jar of local raw honey....it does stop the hacking for a while.
Good excuse for getting out of some of the chores.....only halfway through packing Christmas decorations....
So glad the Saudi young woman escaped to live her life unhindered hopefully.
Wonder what Trump is up to behind our backs with his shouting about walls and barriers...

I hope you start to feel better soon Trysha.Coughing in particular is not good. It's tiring, makes your muscles ache and spoils a good nights sleep. You just have to sit it out and feel sorry for yourself.A little walk in the cold air will make you feel as though you've done something at least. To be honest I haven't had a cold / flu since the millennium,so more than 18yrs.I don't know why.Hubby gets the odd sniffle, but nothing to complain about....although he does, constantly.
