Laxatives during a flare? (For one who doesn't get D!)

Okay, so, I'm flaring again, I think. Been a few weeks of lower abd cramping anytime I eat anything, which has turned into a steady pain, with that damned RLQ pain which is getting worse and worse. And the nausea's back. So I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that a) it's a flare and b) no, it's not going away if I ignore it. (I'm still kinda new to all this Crohn's stuff. REALLY was hoping this would go away. Bummed that it's not - I've only been 2-3 mo symptom-free.)

So anyways, I'm waiting to see my GI in a few weeks (or sooner, I guess, if I feel like I really want to raise a ruckus and ask for a walk-in appt), and I'm starting to get cranky because I haven't pooped in days. I'm one of those weirdos who gets constipated with flares. Do y'all have any experience with, say, Miralax during a flare? Am I inviting myself into a world of pain if I try to move things along? I know Miralax is typically gentle but I've also never used it while (likely) inflamed and all that. I just wanna poop. Hate feeling all bloated and gross. And I don't wanna call the doc unless I absolutely gotta. Help!

Hi Kris... I went to a specialist the one and only time I just couldn't go.... (Sometimes I think I feel worse all bound up!) He told me to get Miralax and put a capful into any drink (non-alchol) that I wanted and to do this twice a day until I was regular (what "regular means to me is anywhere from 7-15 times/day...) Worked like a charm and made me feel SO much better. This is one of the top Crohn docs in the USA and I was very, very fortunate to get an appt w/him (daughter worked in immunology and met him @ a conference in CA.)
Make an appt w/your reg doc... you don't want to wake up in the middle of the night in a fit of pain. Catch whatever it is that is causing this. Good luck! Jan

I have an appointment, it's just not until the 18th! Gah. They said if I felt like I needed to be seen sooner I could call and they'd try to work me in, but I hate doing that, because then if he doesn't feel I'm really acutely ill then I feel like a bother...

Anyways, my problem resolved itself (what is it about finally asking for help that gets a problem to spontaneously fix itself?) but I'm glad to hear the Miralax gets a thumbs-up - it's gentle and easy to take, and I'm sure I'm about to become friends with it as I wait for this appt!

Glad to hear you found relief :) Keep the doc's appt and don't worry about bothering the doc. He will be the first to tell you that it is better to err on the side of caution.
In honor of your "relief"...
