I've noticed there's been a lot of new members on here, as well as quite a few stress related discussions, from surgery talk to the newly diagnosed members, and everything in between so I thought I'd start a thread so we can show off our pets that keep us going.

I have a 1.5 year old all white pure bread miniature schnauzer and let me tell you he's one of a kind that's for sure. Getting him was one of the best decisions I've ever made, even if he is crazy and pretty much untrainable lol. We let him be a dog and enjoy his life.

Weighing in at 21lbs, I introduce you to Dash!

Mariah102.jpg

And this is him doing his favourite activity.

Omg he is sooooooooooo cute. My two dogs are on my avatar. My cat is black and white, seen one you've seen them all! I love my pets, they keep me mobile!

Lol thanks! As crazy as he is all the time, I can walk into the house in the worst mood and the second he attacks me it just cheers me right up. What kind is the apricot dog? It looks like some sort of lab but ive definately never seen them that colour before.

Holly is a Chesapeak bay retriever. The smaller one is Trance he is a Golden/sheltie..he looks like a permapup. LOL

Wow I've never heard of either of those lol. I've never heard of a golden retreiver sheltie mix. We are looking into a second puppy but my fiance is allergic to dogs so we have to stick with the non shedding ones.

Lucy and Coco

These are our dogs. Lucy and Coco

Lucy, the bigger one is my running partner and most loyal companion! Even though I can't run now she is still by my side at all times waiting lovingly for the day we can get back to it. She gets me through the toughest times just by looking at me and being my calm in the storm! I adopted her at 2-years-old and the DNA test shows she is 1/2 Beagle and 1/2 Walker Treeing Coonhound.

Coco, the puppy, is only 5-months-old (she is actually just 6 weeks and 6 pounds in this pic, now she is 16 pounds). She is a Sheltie/Toy Poodle/Corgie/Not sure what else mix. I adopted her more for my kiddos to have a more kid oriented dog to play fetch and such with since Lucy is not a "playful" type of hound. She has been just amazing helping my 5 and 6-yearold kiddos during this tough time where they can't always undertand what is happening to Mommy. She has very much attached to them and she and Lucy love to play all day as well.

Thanks for starting the thread...made me smile and forget about Crohn's for a bit!!! Great idea!

I use photobucket.com. It takes seconds to upload then from there you just copy the img code and paste it here.

Suschex, that little guy looks like a Jack Russel its cute

Hawkeye, with the look of that cat, I'd be hesitant to try and take the remote lol

Suschex, that little guy looks like a Jack Russel its cute

We thought she was a Jack Russel when we adopted her but the DNA test proved us wrong...she is a fun little one!

I hope you guys are able to find another non-shedding dog...it is so fun to have two!

Pen if you put the picture in your personal photo albums on here, and then click the link below the picture and copy it, then Click the "insert image" icon here (in whichever post you are trying to insert a picture in) , and then you can paste that link into the box, and poof...it's in your post ! :)
It's pretty simple once you figure it out..but it took me FOREVER to figure it out on my own! haha.. Good luck, hope that helps ? :)

I love the pictures of everyones pets ! Thanks for sharing!

rob101 - What breed is Hamish?

I love seeing all the sweet pets that get us through our bad days and help us enjoy our good ones!

Beautiful, Jill!

How is life as a "mommy"?

I am so pathetic, Jessi. I really treat her like my baby. I take better care of her than myself! Our family makes fun of us so bad. We get it really bad every year when I send Christmas cards with her photo on it. I really need a kid...

This is Daphne, our dog we rescued 6 months ago. She's such a sweetheart!

Not sure if this is going to work. Here is my cat, Moosh. I've got two other cats as well.

I'm surprised to see so many dog owners among Crohn's patients. I'm curious if the sufferers of Crohn's are the ones that take them out whenever they have to potty or if someone else in the household that isn't sick does all the walking.

This is our dog, Brodie. We also have a cat named Strawberry, but, she does not photograph well. Imagine this cat:

only with more indignation.

We got our dog to add to our family and to serve as a companion to me when my partner is not around as our cat just doesn't care much for our company the majority of the time. Brodie's pretty well behaved when he's taken outside on his training harness, but, it is typically my partner who takes him out for walks; both he and the dog are stronger than I am.

I am the one to take my dog out 95% of the time, unless I'm really not feeling well than she does it. Down 6 floors in the elevator too because I live in an apartment lol. I like taking him out and for walks. He loves being outside. The way I look at it, my fiance is the cook, and well...she cleans a lot more than me so taking the dog out is the least I could do.

Here's my corgi, Lily.

And here's my albino hedgehog, Edgar:

DSC05818.jpg

For the person who asked about who does all the dog walking, my husband is the healthy one and he usually walks our dog. I try to walk her on the weekends if I'm feeling okay. Fortunately, there's a large dog park that is literally about half a block from our house so I don't have to go too far from home for her to be able to get out and run around a bit. I can sit on a bench in the park and let her play with other dogs if I'm not feeling up to walking a lot. When we bought our house, the close proximity to the dog park was something we really liked - but we didn't get a dog until we found the right one, and Lily became ours last December (we had lived in the house for 2 years and I had been ill for just over one year before we got our dog).

Edited to add: Oh yeah, and my cat is in my profile pic! Ha ha. Lydia is 8 years old and she's a great cat. She only really likes me, she puts up with my husband but shies away from most everyone else. When I'm really ill, she'll sit right near me (or on me) and follows me to the bathroom every time I go.

I'm happy I started this thread, there's lots of cute pets in here. That albino porcupine is pretty cool! A corgi is short right? Like a german shephard with stubby legs if I'm not mistaken lol.

I hope the girl with all the snakes/reptiles finds this thread lol

KWalker, yes, corgis are very short. They're dwarf dogs - everything is regular size except for their legs. So she's got a long body and a large head and big paws, it's just that her legs are short. Ha ha. She thinks she's the tallest dog around though!

Oh, and it's actually a hedgehog, not a porcupine. Porcupine's quills will actually come off of the porcupine and stab you in the hand, hedgehog's spines do not come out. They'll poke you, but they stay on the hedgie. He can raise and lower his spines depending on if he's feeling agitated or relaxed, it's actually really cute. I can kind of pet him when he's relaxed. If something startles him though, it's ouch time!

Oh crap, You even said hedgehog lol. Duh! Is he pretty sharp, or just when he's aggitated? I would be afraid to touch it lol.

Oh, and PGHgirl, is that a.......St. Bernard? I feel like I should know this, but with that pic I'm having a hard time

Yeah, my hedgehog is kind of sharp. When I handle him a lot, my hands feel kind of sore afterwards, ha ha. In fact he's due for a cage cleaning and a bath, so my hands will be quite sore later tonight after that's all over with. It's not a pet that I would recommend, as they are not only spiky but also they tend to be rather grumpy and solitary by nature. Plus he's got a very special diet - he is an insectivore, so part of his diet is mealworms (he eats cat food too and sometimes eggs, chicken, etc). I have a little mealworm growing operation just for my hedgie. I know not many pet owners would want to have a mealworm farm in their house, but I've got one! In the summer we catch junebugs for him and he crunches them down, that's pretty disgustinng. Ha ha.

Holly the Chesapeake bay Retriever is a rescue type dog. The save people from fridged icy water. Holly walks on the pond and pounds on the ice to break it through like a bear does. Only problem is she a chicken shit. My Sheltie mix Golden retriever was born on New years day. The breeder was trying to breed Shelties to sell, and Trance was the first one born and he was a golden colour :eek2:. Needless to say there was a golden on the loose who was not fixed. They had 6 others but they were all sheltie looks but couldnt sell them because they obviously were not purebred. I love him he is smart and pint size.

That's really sweet. My kitties are like that too. Once I passed out on the toilet from pain and when I regained consciousness all three of my kitties were sitting around staring at me :)

Too bad they don't know how to dial 911.

Ctrl Z, that'd be a neat trick if we could teach cats to dial 911! Do you remember those old Saturday Night Live sketches from the 90s about a cat who could drive a car? I wish my cat could drive me to doctor appointments, ha ha. Although if I'm remembering right, the cat in those sketches would always crash the car so maybe that's not a good idea after all. :p

@ Hexie ~ What beautiful animals, Shelli! It's wonderful that you take in the rescues. I have 1 that's a rescue. The other 3 pets are just as fabulous, though.

It just broke my heart when you mentioned Clyde passing away in your arms. That must have been absolutely devastating.

Thanks so much for sharing your family with us. :)

@ Paso ~ I just love your beautiful horses. What a fabulous thing that you haven't been forced to get rid of them. I couldn't be happier for you. I hope things continue to go in your favor.

Hi Jessi

Thanks for your lovely comments about my pets - I can't have kids so they are my furkids.
Clyde dying in my arms broke my heart - he was my boy from 8 weeks old to the day he died at 13 and half - he was my best friend and gave the best snuggles. I still miss him very much and the pain of losing him hasn't eased at all. Luckily my ex let me have Lottie stay for a few days when it was the year anniversary of Clyde's death so it didn't hit me as hard as it could've.

Thanks!..it hasn't always been easy - went a few years where I was able to keep my 1 or two at my Mom's house/farm so the cost was low.....but I DID also work up to 3 jobs at a time so I could support myself and my horses - even now, I have 2 side jobs which pays for their upkeep - which thankfully is pretty low! I haven't done any shows in the past couple years though - this coming summer I ahve to see what I can afford so my daughter can show in at least one class!...might have to resort to borrowing a horse again which would cut the cost by about 70% as most of the fees are in stabling, vet etc.....

Awww what an adorable ball of fluff - bet you get great snuggles?
Loving the cute kitty aswell.

Oh crap, sorry about the huge picture! I'll fix it up when I get home from work and have access to an image editor.

Thank-you Hexie. She's great for cuddling but takes up nearly the whole bed as you can see haha.

My current babies:
Maynard is a Great Pyrenees/Labrador Retriever mix. He's 10 months old and 100 pounds.
Zelda is my sweet rat.

The top one is Ginger, the bottom one is Maki. They are sisters, from a litter of eight. Of the eight kittens, one was all orange, one was all black, and the rest was in between. Nice example of Mendel and his peas.

For some reason my wife wanted Japanese names and rejected my suggestions of Canon and Nikon or Honda and Toyota. Ginger is more orange, and is named for the pickled ginger that comes with sushi. Maki is a type of sushi, named for the very dark green, almost black seaweed that is used in making it.

This is Felix nursing me after I had my colonoscopy back in 2010. Best cat I ever owned, had seventeen wonderful years with him. Boy do I miss him.

Still got Pepper. Don't let the innocent kitty face fool you, she is a mischievous little cat. I think she misses Felix more than I do, they had a sibling relationship (despite a ten year age difference) and they LOVED to play.

If I could add a pooch to the menagerie, I'd get one of these guys, but I think the cats would be very mean to him. He's definitely a cutie.

Where would we be without our fur persons.

Since I put Felix down back in December, Pepper has been lonely. She cries for him in the basement where they loved to play, and she is very demanding when I am home.

So last week I brought home a new companion for Pepper, a three month old bombay kitten who I named Tabasco :ytongue: The little guy is full of energy and affection, and Pepper is enjoying his company.
