Hi All,
Im a long time lurker, only posted a couple of times. I need a bit of advice and ill just try and summarise my situation.
I was diagnosed in 2007 with CD and after a course of steroids things got better and i started Aza - i thought things were relativlely ok as i didnt really suffer from pain or D. Then last May i was playing sport and i perforated my bowel and had an emergency resection which removed about 40% of my colon. After some complications i had to go back in for drainage of a pus collection and then another stay for a flare up (i think) in sept.
Things are generally ok, i am still on Aza 150mg and Asacol 1600mg daily however every say month or two i have about a week of intense pain in my right side where the resection is, occasional pinching sensation inside and loss of appetite, i feel extremely cold and sometimes hot - i have recently started retaking Iron supplements aswell as i was told i ws anemic.
I had a Colonoscopy in Nov and things looked good apparently, as strange as it sounds i was a little dissapointed, i have an MRI scan on the 9th Feb, not really sure what to expect from this.
My Crohns doc says things are ok but i dont understand what the F**k is going on in there, when you flare is your bowel moving about or pushing on other organs? my back is killing me, i get out of breath walking and the pain just hangs around like a bad smell, i cant sleep on my right side, even coughing hurts.
What do you do if you have flare up? last time around i took a couple more Asacol tablets and just kind of ate soup and water.
Thing is, this really isnt a quick solution and i pray everyday that it goes away because i cant take anymore time off work - i really dont want this to beat me but when this happens i feel like giving up work. Theyve been good post surgery and my return to work but they arent flexible in hours and only my boss knows about the crohns although i dont beleive any one unless they have a direct link to crohns understands the pain (family members/nurse/doctor).
So my question is, are these flare ups? i know people talk about having flare ups which last months/years etc - My Crohns doc suspects that my bowel perforation was due to an exploding ulcer and despite me feeling okish, i couldve been flaring..
And what do you do? take days off work? take more meds? what is enough to warrent steroids?
My crohns doc also recently suggested he start me on allopurinol + lower dose aza - although after doing a couple of searches this can be a dangerous combo - does anyone here have any success with this?
Sorry for the long post, i just need a bit of relief!
