So the prep (MoviPrep) was horrendous, but I was put completely out and the actual procedure was nothing! I was in a little pain afterward (felt like really bad heartburn) but once I got home and went to sleep it went away. I slept for a good 5 hours and I feel pretty close to my usual self now. I just know I won't want to drink any lemonade (my chaser of choice) for awhile!

The results seem pretty good - my doc confirmed the Crohn's diagnosis, as my terminal ileum was inflamed and she saw an ulcer in there. But she said the rest of my colon was quiet, which is good news. No strictures or fistulas, which I was happy to hear. She's going to call me tomorrow to talk since she said I would be more aware of what she was saying when I'm not coming off anesthesia!

All in all it wasn't fun, but could have been a lot worse. I'm happy to have it over with!

im sorry you have crohns but i am that the colonoscopy went well and no pain. i heard you can bleed afterwards is that true

Hi Fenway -

She started me on Asacol when I was diagnosed (via bloodwork and barium CT scan) in March, I take 1600mg a day. She told my husband that she's probably going to bump up the dosage of the Asacol but that she didn't think I needed another medication right now, which I was happy to hear.

I went many years without being diagnosed, and was given the IBS diagnosis by a GI last year; I decided not to accept that and saw my current doctor who diagnosed me with Celiac and Crohn's. I was so happy to finally have an answer for my symptoms, and I'm lucky that the Crohn's is pretty mild. This colonoscopy was looming over my head since March, so I'm so happy it's behind me (haha - funny pun) now!

Hi there -

Yeah, I kind of figured the Crohn's would be confirmed since I was diagnosed by my blood panel and a barium CT scan; the colonoscopy was to get into my terminal ileum and see what's going on there. After many years of symptoms with no diagnosis, it's nice to finally know what's going on, even if it's Crohn's.

I haven't had any bleeding, and my doctor said that my hemorrhoids (TMI, sorry!) were really bothered from the prep, so if I was going to bleed I would think I would have been by now! I had some discomfort (like bad heartburn/gas pains) but I just went to sleep and I feel much better now.

Try not to worry, you'll be ok!

this is so weird, but this thread is really making me smile right now!
first of all, cause you got your dx and youre acting so positively towards it. the attitude makes such a huge difference in taking care and looking out for yourself.
also cause it sounds like you have a great doc! she waited to discuss the findings with you till the next day, wow! seriously, not many docs are that thoughtful. they throw all kinds of jabber at you while inside you head all you can hear is "wahhh wahh wahhh", like in charlie brown :D
annnnnd it sounds like youve got a great hubby, the fact that the doc is sharing info with him, he sounds involved which is awesome

im really happy for you that you feel so positve and can start working to feel better now. even though its a dx, it seems to be good news to you :)

Hi skymgirl! I too was terrified to get my first colonoscopy, but found that it wasn't too bad. The prep was the worst, but they knocked me out for it and so I didn't even know it was done when I woke up. Glad to hear that it went well. It is great to have a doctor who explains everything to you.

I'm glad the scope went well for you sky!
You have a great attitude and seem very positive.
I am a firm believer in positive thinking and know
first hand it goes a long way with controlling this disease.

Heart Hugs~Nancy :)

LittleMissValentine can I ask why you were awake for yours? Sorry to hijack, but reading that freaked me out! I have my second colonoscopy (and endoscopy) coming up next month, and the idea of being awake is horrible!
Skymgirl I am very glad that everything went well for you.

:) Glad to hear it all went well!!!

scaredgirl: I had some minor bleeding with my 1st few BM's after, but that was it. :)

I have no idea why I was awake!
I just had oxygen in my nose which did absolutley nothing!
Dont worry about it tho, it wasnt a nice experience but it was over with very quickly and I had a nice nurse who was holding my hand.
Also another bad thing about it is that I turned up having no idea what was going to happen to me. The doctor said ok are u ready to go and I said what is going on what are you going to do to me? The next day in the post I got the leaflet telling me all about it which I was supposed to get before the procedure!
xXxXx

Thanks for all the well wishes and positive compliments, I appreciate it!

My doctor just called me, the biopsies came back as positive for active colitis so in addition to the Asacol I'm starting on Entocort tonight. My doctor said it's mild as far as drugs go, I'm going to be on it unilt the 18th, and she said if I start feeling better I'll taper off it then. I don't know anything about it, so I'm going to do some research on it now.

Valentine - yikes! I can't imagine having been awake, you're a trooper to have gone through that!

Kello - I thought of the Charlie Brown thing, too! :) I mentioned that to my doctor today when I talked to her and she laughed and said that's what she was trying to avoid. I was happy she understood I wouldn't have gotten much of what she was saying when I was still in my post-drugs buzzed state!

I was on Entocort for 4 months, I was just taken off of it. Not too bad all around, just caused me to gain some weight......blah!

when i had my first one i was so doped up that when walking from the procedure to the consultation room with my parents i walked into several walls and talked to a plant. good thing my parents were there cause i didn't remember a thing and just kept nodding yes to what ever the doc said.... I love those drugs

:welcome: to the forum, Sky!
Happy to hear it went well and you got the dx.
Like Mark, I had some pretty good drugs... they injected me and I started feeling woozy and dopey. I remember giggling like an idiot and acting/feeling drunk. A nurse asked me to roll over onto my side, and I said "sure, I'm easy - just don't tell my husband!"
I'm such an ass

LOL..... I know...... but it's ok, not like it's an isolated incident! I'm an ass on an everyday basis.
I told my husband about it, and was he surprised? Nooooo.......:shifty-t:
