Sticky Medical Marijuana for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

It' takes me about 45 mins in and out to get my doctors note. I then take that to receive my state MMIP card. I live in CA. Each state is different.

Wow that's fast ! I know it won't be that quick here. First your doctor has to fill out an online form then you have to fill out one then you get approved then pay for the card. I don't know but I sure do want to give MMJ a shot !

I saw my doctor on a Monday and had my cert two days later. They just had to wait for the request form my surgeon(he diagnosed me with CD after a resection)to have the medical library fax the needed documents. It cost me $100 for the office visit.I think I was fortunate, because when I called to make an appointment I was told there was a cancellation. If I could be there in 20 minutes I could have the time slot.Needless to say,I was there in 15.The wait time is several weeks, usually, for an appointment. Here in Maine, that is.

In Michigan it cost me 125 dollars and I got my 4 years into the program. 300 is not unreasonable and good looks finding a clinic close to you though I'm sure you can probably get the oil there as well, that's how it works in Michigan.

I just say bring all related medical information you could possibly need to be certified. I say let them fill the forms out for you at the clinic it could take 8 weeks for them to tell you if something is wrong with your form and another 8 weeks to get it cleared up. Just happened to me when I tried to drop my caregiver it took them 9 weeks to tell I missed 1 section on the form, now I have to wait another 6-8 weeks to get cleared to grow my own. So tread wisely!!

Oh no maybe I won't wait ! I hope you get cleared soon . Thanks for the info. :ghug:

It takes 3 weeks to get the state card which is optional in CA. CA state law states a patient only needs a letter of recommendation from your doctor (an hour maximum appointment time). No doctor in any state in US can "prescribe" cannabis until it is taken off Schedule 1 narcotics list. They can only "recommend" it. Semantics, I know.

Questions do you need to file any permit in California to grow your own plants?

This question makes me wonder-do individual states decide what medical condition is acceptable? Does each state design it's own guidelines or is there a federal guideline that is followed? i.e. amount of plants you can grow, how many flowering, how many in vegative state.Amount you can have on you of 'useable' medicine.

I assumed since it is still illegal to the feds that states decided these issues.

Since marijuana is a schedule 1 drug on the federal level, there are no set federal guidelines involving medical marijuana. Each state determines what ailments are included in the program. They set the standard and set the regulations for growing along with dispensing. For instance in Michigan dispensaries are based on a court case illegal because it was never and still has never been addressed by the legislature. I know this sounds ridiculous but it is the case yet there are still 5 dispensaries I know of in the area of Michigan I partially reside in.

In terms of growing each state is differentials well in Michigan once you are cleared to be in the program unless you designate a plant possessing caregiver you are entitle to 12 plants but to my knowledge and from what I have read there is not a single statute which dictates the stage of Development the plants are aloud to be in. It is a enigma because in most states you are allowed to possess up to 2 ounces maybe a half more maybe a half left it depends on the state but no statute I have read addresses the excess you obviously get from having 6 or 12 plants depending on the state, because if you grow even half heartily you will get at least 2 ozs per plant so doing the math you are incredibly over.
It shows how indicated law makers were while drafting the mmj bills into law.
I hope this was helpful!!

We can have 2.5 ounces in our posession in Maine and be legal.I'm happy to say I have not tested that with an officer friendly meeting. You can be charged with OUI if you are perceived to be impaired.Just like alcohol.

Ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law.I will dig deeper and educate myself better. What I know I was told by my Dr. and fellow MM users in Maine.I'll read the actual legislation and see for myself.I just hate going over documents in 'government speak' and translating to something understandable.Gotta know whats what though.

Happy to say my wife does not mind the 'stink' of growing my own meds.

Yeah that is one of the first things you learn in the first semester of law school, ignorance is no defense. In terms of Maine, your medical marijuana law is rather comprehensive but, also extremely straight forward in terms of language. Basically you are allowed 2.5 ounces and up to 6 plants per patient in varying stages of development. On top of this you can receive monetary compensation for any excess from the plants you have cultivated up to two pounds from a registered dispensary. That is the meat and bones of the statute the rest of it talks about getting registered with a physician's recommendation, minors, non-discrimination for being a member, having edibles/concentrates things of that nature.

Its great being in law school and having access to Westlaw, a software program where I can bring up any statute or case throughout the U.S. like a legal only version of Google. The statute in name is the Maine Medical Use of Marijuana Act and was made effective October 2013, it is codified as 22 M.R.S.A. § 2423-A and goes for 9 sections and numerous subsections with several attached statutes discussing things like dispensaries and non-medical possession.
I hope this cleared up some of your questions and gave you the legal information you needed.

I appreciate this.I was not aware of being able to get compensation.Good to know.I'll save the 9 sections and subsections for when I want some light reading. :ybatty:

No problem I have the resources so might as well spread the wealth.

SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE

I think that it will be preaching to the choir but the more informed we all are the better of an argument we can make. So to make this really short WATCH IT, LEARN FROM IT, then we can talk about it!!!

After reading and hearing so much about this subject, I thought I would do some research into this, and being from Maine as well, I thought the laws would make it easier to decide if this is right for me. Other sites I have looked at have gotten me so confused about what hoops I need to jump through, I am almost ready to give up before tryin. Am I right in assuming only certain doctors can recommend this for me? Are there fees involved in getting certified as a patient? Is any of this covered by insurance, with this being like a prescription? I also heard of some people being, not out and out refused treatment by say fr instance a pain management clinic, but they find a way to force you out of treatment because you test positive for " scheduled drugs" that they didn't prescribe. That seems like an unreasonable risk to me. I haven't smoked in over 30 years, so I have no way of knowing if this is worth the risk, I wish I did.

Hey Dug, I would say go for it the statute has specific anti-discrimination aspects to it. This means your employer can not penalize you if you are a medical marijuana recipient. In terms of what type of physician can recommend this for you, the statute says any board certified physician, it does not have to be a pain specialist. In my personal opinion if you indeed did try to get a recommendation from a pain clinic they would tell you some of things you are saying here because they are paid to push the pharmaceutical pain killers. Also currently no insurance covers medical marijuana but they also can not discriminate against you in terms of coverage for other things like your regular prescription meds, that is also stated in the statute. The program is designed to be complicated so that Joe shmo with his hurt pinky can not get medical marijuana when its not necessary. The program is for people like us with debilitating autoimmune problems and you will find that with your medical records saying you have a named disease listed for the program you will not be stone walled by anyone as a matter of fact you will probably find that the doctors willing to recommend it for you will be willing to without question because they feel safe doing it for someone with a statutory listed disease.

I hope this helped and I hope you get the relief normal meds could not provide. If you need anymore information let me know.

Thanks Joe, and just to prove the point about being complicated, I'm finding answers from someone out of state that I can't find in my own town...lol..it isn't a job I am worried about losing, it's being edged out of pain management. To be a client in this clinic, I had to sign a contract and every so often, submit a urine test. " failing" that drug test would get me kicked from the program. They could possibly use that as a way of edging me out, which could lead to some severe consequences for me. Because of the stigma attached to pot in general, I worry about even asking questions. One of the things that really gets under my skin is, in the 25+ years I have been fighting this disease, there have been countless studies I have been part of, to see which pharmaceutical works and doesn't, but this would be wrong to test? I'm also on prednisone long term, and we all know what that poison can do. MM doesn't have even a quarter of the side effects. Sorry for being long winded, I guess my frustration and non pot related paranoia is getting the best of me.

Hi dug127

I've recently got my MM cert. in January.I don't know if I can add any info, but feel free to ask.

Thanks Dave13, I do appreciate the offer about info, I think I may have gotten misinformed by another message board, which has cuased me a great deal oof confusion. It was suggested to me that I need to pay a fee to a medical professional for the recommendation for a mm certificate/ID. and also that I should only use a dispensary as second choice.
I just want to be as well informed as possible, so I don't come off looking like I am only interested in "getting me some", if you know what I mean.

You only pay your Dr.at the visit for the certificate. The cert.is good for one year.Dispensaries are,in my experience, more expensive than caretakers. They are good places to go to see what is available.A good dispensary will have knowledgeable staff that will go over the specific attributes of the MM they sell. What will most help you.A caretaker may not have the selection but is less expensive because of no employee payroll, etc.(or should be)My Dr.'s office has a large map of the state and allows dispensaries and caretakers to leave business cards and other info. They can't endorse anyone specifically.Hope this helps.

The expense is where I go off the rails, between buying a certificate and purchasing the expensive MM, I would be spending money my fixed income couldn't handle on pure speculation. All I have read about the benefits are that the receptors are in the gut, and I lost my colon to crohns, and have very little small intestine left. So when I say I don't know if this is even a treatment for me, that's what I was referring to. Thanks again for all the info

Hi everyone.... It's my understanding that Charlotte's Web is working wonders for kids with epilepsy. From what I read on the forum posts, people with Crohns tend to go with something a little higher in THC. Could you all post the names of the strains you are using? This would help us in finding the right strain for our son, who is currently a Colorado refugee.

Yes Charlotte web does work wonders for kids with epilepsy. but it should work wonders for people with Cohn's as well. Also I wouldn't say we are using stuff that's higher THC but using strains that have higher CBD which is the main component of Charlotte's web, this being said we want the entourage effect as much as possible to maximize the anti-inflammatory effects of the drug through the neuroimmune axis. http://synergycbd.com/cbd/ this website has all the highest CBD strains that are not Charlotte's web this place is based out of California but since your son is in Colorado I am sure one of these strains is easily found there. Also please try to ingest the strain in an oil, tincture or edibles. smoking/vaporizing is the least effective of the options for Crohn's patients because by the time it gets to your intestines most of its effects have been diluted by traveling oxygen-to lungs-to blood stream to intestines where as direct ingestion orally is intestines to blood stream in intestines where the medicinal effect is maximized.
I hope this helps you and your son and I hope he gets the relief I have from this awesome Rick Simpson oil which has saved my life. good luck!!

Laws are changing in Canada April 1st. MMJ will now need a form filled out by your doctor which you can then buy from the government backed growers. Last I looked there were 7 growers ready to go, and more being added. I will be looking to go "legal" next month, depending on my colonoscopy results. Hoping this is a step towards legalization so more people can have access to this medicine :D

I am new to this forum. I am only 19 and was diagnosed at the age or four. My whole life has been a extreme Crohns battle and my parents always decided to go for other treatments for me because I am allergic to all 5ASA and Sulfa medications. I also react to Imuran and 6mercapta purine. So the medication options for me are basically biologics. however, for years i was treated with Tube feeding. This was only a option when i was a youth though and still growing. When i was 17 turning 18 i experienced an extremely sever flare and spent most of my grade 12 year in the hospital. I was on 60mg of predinose (i only weigh 110 pounds) for over a year and i couldn't take it anymore so i stopped taking the medication. I tried numerous different treatments and nothing works.Biologics are something i have fought to stay away from my whole life. I have tried different diets, holistic treatments and even looked in to LDN (low dose neltrexone). unfortunately my case is so severe i was given a option between Humira and Remicade. I have now been on Remicade for 5 infusions and it honestly makes me feel even worse than before. I am now not able to go to university because i am constantly so sick. Sorry for the story but i TRULY believe that smoking pot is one of the only things that noticeably helps my symptoms. It helps greatly with my depression all this has caused me and helps the pain a ton. I think it is the only treatment that gives me a little hope. Does anyone have information about getting a prescription for medical marijuana in canada? specifically Toronto. I know it has been decriminalized but i just got a new gastro specialist who is keen on my staying on remicade so my dose is now being doubled. Does anyone have information on steps I should take?

I was looking into this too! I'm also hoping to apply -- just have to work up the nerve to bring it up to my doctor.

Hey, I'm based out of Toronto, too. Like Kero said, the law regarding MMJ is changing April 1st, but basically it sounds like you just need to raise it to your doctor and see if they'll help you apply. There's more information here, but it's a bit confusing because it's jumping between the old law and the new law.

The list of new producers has some information on their apply sections regarding it, too. (Generally clearer to follow, there. Mettrum and MedReLeaf are both based out of Ontario.)

Cannabis concentrates are currently keeping me in remission....I have officially gone off all prescription meds and the only pharma I take now is prilosec. Cannabis is truly amazing....

I am the same CE1210, what I want to know is what your diet is like, I have found I can eat anything I want without incident, are you the same way?

Coltyn has an oil that is THC .51mg/g. And CBD 9.31 mg/g. But we don't know how much oil to put into the syringe to give to him! Some one please help us! He is the first pediatric Crohns patient in Colorado to be involved with the hope foundation. His grower deals with seizures and cancer most of the time and doesn't know the mg of oil to give Coltyn. Can anyone give us an idea? What do you all do and then maybe we can adjust his dose accordingly.

Maybe you can find & contact another patient &/or family to find out the proper dosage. Too much is no problem, aside from wasting money. I'd worry about giving too small a dose.

Thanks for the support dave13! And thanks for all the help guys! This has been one wild ride! I hope this works and can be an aid in other kids with this wacko disease. Everybody is all about the seizure kids .. Which is amazing! But it's nice to have a little support from the crohnies!

You won't have to "apply" per se, come April 1st. You will just need your doctor to fill out a form and as long as you have the form, you are legal. Max you can have the prescription for is 1 year. The problem will be finding a doctor to sign off on it

The MMAP has been "suspended" because a federal judge granted a last minute injunction.

Commercial dispensaries will keep selling both those of us already in the MMAR get to keep growing until the issue is resolved in court. And it will no doubt go to the SCC, so it may take a long while.

I do not know what this will do to new MMAP applicants. I assume everything goes ahead as usual. Come to think of it it might be more accurate to say the MMAP is going into effect but the MMAR has been extended.

Yeah, that seems to be what I'm hearing as well. I've already asked one of my doctors about it and they've rejected me, so I get to begin the search to find one that won't...

May I ask what exactly are cannabis concentrates - do you get them from a dispensary and how much and how to you ingest. I am seeing an approved mmp today and hopefully he'll lead me to getting a card.

Thanks!

Cannabis concentrates are oils, tinctures, or hash's which take the marijuana plant or buds and cook them to compact a large amount of the plant for increased cannabinoids into a smaller batch quantity. What you would want to look for which has put me into remission as well, with no dietary limitations, is Rick Simpson oil it is extremely concentrated it takes roughly 16 grams of cannabis to make a gram of the stuff effectively. The active ingredient you need to know about which keeps us all in remission is CBD NOT THC. The higher the CBD count or percentage rate the more effective it will be at regulating your immune system enough to put you into remission.

From what I have saw NJ is not currently up to date in terms of strong enough marijuana concentrates and strains to actually be effective but that is only based off what I saw in weeds 2 documentary on CNN a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps this has changed recently but I would not know personally.

If you have any more questions or want to know more, ask us!!! We will help where we can. Also here is a really easy to read informative link as to why it works

Hey hollistic joe! I am not on the forum as much these days as I spend more time on cannabis dedicated forums since I have found the "cure for crohns" lol...You asked about diet, I try to avoid too much dairy and refined sugar and still try to take in as many probiotics as possible, but I can def eat a wider variety without any negative side effects. I really want to get some potent CBD oil to combine with my therapy bc I believe this would make me literally symptom free not just "clinical remission". I find also that if I do eat something that "doesn't agree with me" I can vape a quality concentrate and my symptoms are gone literally in seconds.

btw living in NJ barelyalive, you could try to get a caregivers card if you can afford the $200 app fee and then should be able to grow...your not supposed to grow your own unless your a "caregiver" from what I understand, but if you could grow your own, making your own cannabis concentrates is not difficult or expensive...also there are different types of concentrates some are made to ingest and some are made to be inhaled make sure you know what you are getting bf you get it. I know it was mentioned earlier that finding quality concentrates could be an issue, but if I can get them in TN then you should be able to find them anywhere....

Just to chime in here.....I did get a doc to agree for me to try some med. mary jane. and I have to say during a mini flare I was going through it was a life saver!!! It was just amazing. However, I still found the THC levels still too high in the strain that was designated for pain/arthritis! I have heard there is some synergestic effetcs from both the THC and CBD....I just wish they could really lower the THC to sub-effect levels.

Anyone, have any luck with the oils?? I heard they can remove more THC from the oil and still leave in more of the CBD?

I felt that way when I was studying biology... as soon as I admitted I wasn't premed.... you could just FEEL the professor's attention moving away.

So far so good guys! Coltyn is still tired and is feeling weird, but not a bad weird. We kinda push it today by hiking around garden of the gods! But he came home a played video games and ate a ton of hamburger helper!! Lol! We put his oil in a capsule and viola! He swallowed it right down and loved it! - I don't think I've ever seen him eat so much! Still praying this works. Having good feelings tho! Thanks for all the help and support. It's not been easy being a parent to a kid who uses pot! But I don't care! I love it!

Just try thinking of it more as a medication! Honestly, I find that reading up on it has helped me a lot with my original anxieties about it. I'm glad to hear it's helping, though!

CE1210, Thanks for responding even if it took awhile. I have found that I can eat anything completely symptom free especially if before I eat anything "controversial" I vape or ingest some form of cannabis. I agree it seems like a cure and it is why I will remain on this forum amongst others. People need to know how effective this is over any other treatment out there.

In terms of high CBD oil or tincture I use a Simpson oil and smoke or vape or ingest as needed as I said before when I decide to eat things not normally in our diet plans. What it comes down to is cannabinoid therapy is probably the most effective way to treat this disease because I believe that this disease as is other autoimmune diseases is a cannabinoid deficiency which then leads to the higher preponderance of bad gut bacteria and in more neurological based disease a degradation of homeostasis in the neuroimmune axis.
Thanks for the input guys, all pieces of information are valuable in trying to figure out how to beat this disease.

I get extremely paranoid when using cannabis. But I do feel a great deal of relief in regards to the gut. Is there a way of using it that would cause LESS paranoia? Is ingesting or vaporizing different then smoking it? I wish I could benefit from it, it would be so easy! LOL

Kacey- there actually is a way! There are pills and tinctures and so forth that offer the healing property of weed, without the THC (which makes you high). Get your medical card!

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, but... My 28 year old son has recently moved to Chico and needs a gastroenterologist. Any recommendations?

From some information I recieved with an oil order they list nominal oral dose as 1/10th gram (.10). This is a small dot the size of a 1/2 grain of rice or so. Then work slowly upfrom there. To recieve full benifit you would have to reach a saturation dosage which would be 1 gram a day,for 30 to 45 days. Carefully increase untill able to take that much without falling asleep within 45 to 90minutes, an indication of too much. Then after that 30 to 45 days reducing that dose back to a maintenance dose. There are no set dosages so you would have to listen closely to your body. I found it was easiest to buy some capulets at a health food store. No taste, swallow like a pill, and taht would allow the canibas to better reach the intestines.

That being said my experience with the use of MM has not been that positive.
My question to you is why would you choose to treat your child this way? If you are seeking to bring down the inflamation I have found oil of oragano does a great job with the same chemical reaction as marajuana and without the risk.

Diet can make a great deal of difference on the symptoms. I have removed all the sugar and lactose from my diet and and have had more long lasting positive results. Especially the sugar. And do not substitute artifical sweetners as they can be worse than sugar. I worked with a friend whose wife had Crohns and was eating a pound of chocolate a day.I advised her of this. She refused to stop. She died. A friend of my wifes daughter in LA had Crohns. She was 14 at the time she stopped the sugar. She is doing fine and no longer on any medication.

If pain is an issue marajuana is not the best of pain relievers. Although there is much written here about how great it works on pain the chemistry does not support that. I know that many will argue with this statement. When you are having a great deal of true pain it is better to attack the root of the pain to relieve it. Yes cannibis can give a person distance from the pain which can seemingly help pain, the same as any narcotic, there is nothing known to exist that stops pain. I have vaped a high level of THC only to realize that moriphine does a better job and is organically less harmful. My MD who signs my reccomendation warned me of this.

When a person is truely in pain they do not get "high" from thier pain relievers. A person who is truly in pain usally doesn't get dependent.Latest studies show maybe 1 in 1000 do. They only can distance themselves from the pain. Pain is a good thing, it is the bodies way of telling us something is really wrong and we need to pay attention.

After heavy experimentation with MM and trying to reverse a current flare, using oil, tinture, and vaping I am heading back to the operating room. The stricture at the beginning of my colon is less than 9mm. I have been on a total liquid diet, experienceing a great deal of pain, and just want relief.

To wglatzel, concentrate dosage can fluctuate depending on the amount of cannabis concentrated into it and amount of CBD/CBN found inside the cannabis used to make the concentrate. Then from there you must take into account how actively you have been flaring and/or how severe your symptoms are. This would determine how much of a concentrate/s should be ingested, if it is a severe flare up, up to a full gram of a high CBD oil should be used a day if not more. I hate to say this but I think you have been mislead, THC does not affect the symptoms of crohns disease nor is it the medicinal compound in cannabis which systematically shuts down the disease. THC can mitigate certain symptoms in regards to nausea or general discomfort but will not affect your overall symptoms other then being "high".
In terms of the chemistry of cannabis, it is a scientific fact that cannabis reduces inflammation through immunomodulation of the over activity associated with the effects of this disease. Crohns disease maybe classified as a auto-immune disease but is actually an over activity of immune function in the intestines specifically causing degradation of the epithelial lining of the intestines through ulceration and obstruction. CBD the active medicinal part of cannabis binds to cannabinoid receptors found throughout the human body, causing through the neurological-immune axis (where the brain and immune system meet) to regulate the body back into a normal functioning state. This is all scientifically proven if you want articles and studies I have at least a dozen.
In terms of morphine or other opium related compounds working better than cannabis for pain this maybe true but it is because the opium derivative binds to the pain receptors in the brain stem and blocks the body from feeling pain it does not go to the root of the problem whatsoever and was never designed to.
In terms of oregano working better than cannabis this is simply not possible, because the active compounds of oregano are thymol and Carvacrol. Thymol is an anti-microbial which in concert with Carvacrol functions primarily as an antibiotic limiting the growth of certain types of bad bacteria particularly E.COLI. These compounds maybe good for regulating the bad bacteria found in the gut of many of the patients with Crohns which could explain why in your case pain was mitigated. Since the over population of bad bacteria in crohns patients causes when there is no active flaring cramps and stomach pain basically mimicking food poisoning like symptoms the oil may help in reducing pain in this sense. However this can not reduce inflammation as CBD found exclusively in cannabis can.
Morphine and other related drugs are not organically safer, and the average person on these type of pain pills does in fact get high from these medications even if they know it or not because this is what these pills are designed to do. In terms of dependency, this can happen to anyone and most commonly occurs in people whom were first prescribed the medication as a way to mitigate pain from a cancer or other type of disease the statistic you have maybe true but the way people are prescribe these pills today dependency has become a much more common problem among the general population as oppose to those just trying to get high.

2 last things to say: I am sorry for your friends wife that is horrible and I almost experienced the same thing with my mother though she did not eat a pound of chocolate a day, I do not understand why someone would do this? Do you know what there reason was? Diet definitely plays a huge part and sugar in celiac patients can be legitimately lethal though in other crohns/IBD patients depending on the type of sugar/carb/starch it is the only food that can be easily ingested it depends on that individuals body.
I am sorry to hear that your experience with MM has not been positive though perhaps you should attempt to use it with a high CBD, low THC strain, preferably in an oil or tincture those are the strains that have been most beneficial for those of us whom have attempted it on this site. For Cannabis did not really work at all until I switched to a high CBD oil since I did over 2 months ago I have been in complete remission with a eat whatever I want diet with, no reaction at all.

Listen I am not or was not attempting to pick any fight with you or berate you, I just want you to be informed of the scientific facts associated with cannabis and why it works versus why it could potentially not. The point of this site is to exchange information and stories to support one another through their particular struggles with an incredibly debilitating disease. I hope you found this informative and hope you would reconsider trying cannabis from a high CBD approach instead of high THC. If you have any questions or want any of the articles I have too dispel any concerns you may have let me know.

As always I hope you find relief regardless of in what form that comes because that is the point of all of this to get relief in whatever way possible even if that includes surgery. Feel better and good luck!!!

I tried it. It's the best I've felt. I didn't feel nauseated, and I felt hungry! It's not legal here though, so I can't take a chance. Seems pretty rotten to me!

Thanks holistic Joe.
Just wanted inform you that the oil was 1:5 thc/cbd.and that the tincture was1:4 thc/cbd. I believe there may be some minor theripudic relief from MM in minor flares or mild cases, same as Imuran, Entocort, or Asacol would provide more moderate to sever Crohn's may not respond. Obviously my case has exceeded any minor or maintaince requirements as I no longer can pass any food. MM was worth a try, most likely to late for my case.

Yes your case seems similar to my Mother's before she had her illostomy (forgive me if I'm spelling it wrong) then J-pouch. In my Mother's case she had degraded so far that even cyclosporine on a constant IV drip for a week did nothing. I would agree with you that past a certain point nothing besides surgery will work. It is a horrible truth of this disease, what I want to see is if Cannabis in the long term can be more effective than the drugs you listed but time and further studies will determine if that is true or not. In your case I feel horrible because it is my opinion had the knowledge been available and the oils/tinctures been available before you got to this late stage it could have halted your progression or at least made a difference. I would say that perhaps post-surgery you should consider after tapering off all of your post-surgery meds to try the concentrates again and see if it maintains you, then keep us updated. Again I wish you the best!!! We are all in this together, whether we realize it or not.

Allison M - its horrible you can't get it in Texas though I hear your governor is actually for medical marijuana and you maybe able to get it sooner than later so relief maybe insight. Keep it going and keep up the good fight.
I wish you sooo much luck and support as you go through this time I know how complicated and scary it can get

This is completely ridiculous...morphine organically less harmful than cannabis? That is completely and absolutely false and there is ample research to back up the fact that morphine is extremely dangerous and potentially harmful, while there are many that prove the opposite of cannabis. And, actually cannabis gets a lot closer to "stopping the pain" than morphine does because cannabis combats inflammation which, for crohn's sufferers, is generally the source of pain. Morphine is one of the most addictive otc drugs available its addictive no matter what you are taking it for. Morphine also causes nausea and constipation, the opposite of cannabis. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3820295/

I'm quite sorry about your perceived negative experience with cannabis, but questioning someone else's parenting, someone that has already tried numerous other options, and is seeking a natural COMPLETELY SAFE treatment that doesn't cause any "high", seems to me not to be all that cool. Especially while simultaneously spreading mistruths about one of the oldest and most medicinal substances known to man.

I'm not quite sure why your particular cannabis regimine didnt work for you wglatzel (I saw that you were using high cbd products however more recent studies are really touting the benefits of other cannabinoids like THC/CBN, I personally have had more relief from a combo of hi cbd and hi thc oils), but best wishes and good luck with your operation.

If you are seeking to bring down the inflamation I have found oil of oragano does a great job with the same chemical reaction as marajuana and without the risk.

If oregano oil could activate CB1 and CB2 receptors, I guarantee every supermarkets would be sold out. All the time. This statement is absolutely baffling.

Your suggestion that morphine is organically less harmful than cannabis is also equally baffling. If your doctor really told you that, I would report him to the medical board and find a new one as soon as possible.

Cannabinoid therapy is only effective with a proper regimen and delivery methods. What strains did you use, in what dosage, and for how long? You listed THC:CBD ratios but not the dosages and posology you adopted.

But, may I ask, from where can you buy Rick Simpson Oil?

I am on the verge of going on Humira, but I am also getting a card - which appears to be useless because I cannot purchase the Simpson Oil?

Thanks

ce1210, Francis, I figured you guys were gonna come down like that, once you read that post, I myself was like huh??? Its good that we can keep it civil in this forum though I have seen other forums get real nasty, but in the grander sense of things these are some of the misconceptions we face everyday and the more united we are with FACTS the better our defense. So lets keep trucking!!!

barelyalive, there are CBD oils you can buy on amazon though I can not guarantee there effectiveness. This being said since you are getting a card, there is the possibility if you contact one of the dispensaries out in either California, Washington or Colorado they may send you some. I can also ask here in Michigan if they would as well. To clear any minds about the legality of something like that currently the federal government is not prosecuting medical marijuana patients that are attempting to get medicine only and since that is the case many states have expanded medical marijuana laws where a patient can transfer MMJ from one MMJ state to another without penalty. This being said I really do not know how many dispensaries you would find willing to ship it to you. In a last resort you could attempt to make it yourself if you get a high CBD strain from one of the few dispensaries in NJ it is actually not hard and videos can be found on youtube. http://synergycbd.com/cbd/ this clinic has many of the high CBD strains available it is at least a point into the right direction in terms of gathering information.
I have to say its frustrating knowing your position but not being able to give you advice that I know can have an immediate effect. I wish you the best and I will see if there is anything that I can find regarding concentrates in NJ.

I'd be really curious about seeing some of those articles, if you don't mind sharing! I'm currently down an immunomodulator and I'm not too interested in 6mp or methotrexate. I was looking into MMJ for sleep disorder purposes, but if I could take it for maintenance for my Crohn's, too, that would be great.

It escapes me how Amazon allows this. It cannot be legal?

The oils they sell are actually made from Hemp, hemp still has the CBDs but pretty much zero THC, so they get around it :) I thought the same thing when I first heard about it

That is exactly right they are hemp based that is why there effectiveness should be suspect, since it is a pure CBD solution it may not be as effective because all of the other synergistic effects of cannabis are removed. It is definitely loop-hole legal though that's how they get through it so to speak.

In terms of articles I found almost all of them on another thread of this site. Here is the link http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=43932 this thread has about a dozen articles all related to the scientific effective of cannabis in the intestines.

University of Wisconsin-Madison. "Unraveling tangled origin of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)." ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 3 April 2014. <www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/04/140403131744.htm>.

This article may not on first read, seem like it pertains in any way to us. However as this article will tell you scientists at the UWM have found that a protein in motor neurons degrades the motor neuron connections in neuron-filaments causing a "cascading" of problems, for this article ALS was the focus. To attempt to sum it up as simply as possible this article this adds to crohns disease originating in a neuron-immune axis in that if this article found that these proteins degrade and tangle because they do not function properly then causing depending on the area of affliction paralysis of function. This was found to be similar in Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease. If and right not this is me making loose connections based on previous readings it extends to Crohn's disease it reveals 2 very fundamental things 1. This disease does in fact originate in the connections between the immune system and the neurons from the brain 2. IF this is true then it could be assumed that the neurofilament protein break down occurring in ALS, Parkinson and Alzheimer's could be related where the protein break down causes different afflictions depending on where the protein breaks first. The reason why this applies here is that if it is the same protein that is affected and does tangle the same way it can be contended that cannabis runs through the same neuron connections and potentially prevents the protein from degrading and assists in repairing the damaged connections through binding to the CB receptors reestablishing the protein connections and by extension causing the broken connections to heal.
I apologize if this is extremely complicated but I am excited at this article because it assists in the theory I propagate on this thread quite regularly in terms of neuron-immune axis support. I will have more info as I find it

Anyone know what the deal is with buyricksimpsonoil.com? They ask for your name and phone number - for what? Is Rick Simpson actually behind this site or is it a fraud?

Anyone know what the deal is with buyricksimpsonoil.com? They ask for your name and phone number - for what? Is Rick Simpson actually behind this site or is it a fraud?

Rick Simpson does not sell oil ever and will not ever. He only tells people how to make it. He does not endorse any brand so if someone is selling Simpson oil it's unrelated to him.

"Morphine is organically less harmful (than cannabis)" is a load of BS. Morphine is fatally addictive. Many would only need to take morphine for a few days to become addicted. Also, morphine is very easy to overdose and die from. Nobody has overdosed and died from cannabis in recorded history. It's kind of in poor form to come into a medical marijuana thread and to spew nonsense opinions about the superiority of opiates over cannabis. And no, morphine is NOT a better nor safer pain reliever due to opiate tolerance vs cannabis tolerance. Yes morphine will make you so doped up the first week you won't care about your Crohn's or anything else. In a few weeks you will need your starting dose just to avoid getting sick (opiate withdrawals). Let me tell you, "dope sickness" is like ten times the worst flu. If you think you want to die on your worst flare day ever, imagine adding the worst flu you ever have on too of that. Also, "worst flu ever" is putting it mildly. Conversely, an individual could spend a lifetime trying to OD on cannabis and they will fall asleep. Also there is a barely noticeable withdrawal syndrome with cannabis. Caffeine withdrawal is worse than cannabis withdrawal IMO and IME.

So then who is producing it and selling it as Rick Simpson Cannabis oil at MM Dispensaries?

How do you know you are getting quality cannabis oil if its not branded?

You seem to be spreading more bad information. Regardless of medical marijuana laws, depending on the type of job you have you can still lose your job because cannabis is still a schedule 1 drug aka "no medical value". If you operate heavy machinery or have specific jobs that drug test and you fail drug test the state medical marijuana laws will not protect you. Each patient must study their individual state laws and act accordingly.

Many dispensaries test their meds. The best way is to grow your own and test the plant on yourself. When you find a strain that works for you, make the oil. You can buy everclear to avoid using solvents. Be very careful it's highly flammable.

Nobody is selling RSO oil. The extracts, tinctures etc are all very similar to it but the source material is key to providing benefits so you either have to source and make the cannabis oil yourself, or find a really high end dispensary or grower who tests the quality of the source material. The only other option is waiting a few more decades for big pharma to patent and exploit this plant for profit, and for the brain dead beaurocrats to make it legal. I don't have that kind of time.

Sooo, after a glimmer of hope, I must resign to the fact that basically I am phucked.

Sooo, after a glimmer of hope, I must resign to the fact that basically I am phucked.

Doesn't NJ have a dispensary? I'm not trying to be difficult, it's just highly nuanced and complicated. You understand the concept of RSO oil, right? It doesn't matter what name it is. The only reason Rick tells you to make it yourself is to be sure that is pure. the only 100% way of knowing what you have is by growing it or buying tested materials or final product. You can always buy tested extracts/oils etc from reputable dispensarys. Don't get worried over the semantics and branding. Does that help?

Whoa, seems like you need a whole lot of weed (a lot more than the NJ monthly allowance) to make a tiny bit of oil.

Well I finally got my card. Thinking of trying vaping. I have been so stressed over the prospect of starting Humira, I think I am going to pass for now. Perhaps I'll just ask for short term prednisone to see if it calms down the flare I'm in with a little help from mmj. I now take corticosteroids in the form of cortifoam - and I definitely get bad reactions from it - but Humira seems worse. I have been bleeding sooo much non stop I have been living like an invalid over the past month....somethings got to give.

You can ingest edibles and get similar benefits. The idea is to take as much as you can tolerate until your symptoms go away or you feel better.
I'm sure your doc told you that you have one chance at Humira or Remicade. You can't stop and start those. I refused Humira because I disagreed with my doc about the next stage of my treatment. So far it was the right choice for me.
Caveat Emptor.

I noticed a connection between my symptoms before and after takin the prednisone cipro/flagyl combo each time I would reflare. I made the connection that it was the antibiotics that were significantly reducing my trips to the crapper. I weaned myself off prednisone first,
Then slowly off 6mp. Lialda etc caused me
Acute colitis symptoms which subsided after I quit cold turkey. The drug cocktail was a combo of drugs,
Half of which were helping, half of which which were causing acute colitis (Lialda read the medication insert for side effects)

I went off all prescribed meds against gastroenterologist orders who mocked me and told me I would see him in 6 months. That was 2.5 years ago. My primary care
Doc took my bloodwork that I kept taking regular for over a year to check for inflammation markers (normal) and to make sure they didn't give me lymphoma or skin cancer (lifelong screening now) from the "medicine" 6mp.

I also tried every natural thing out there, basically cycling food ingridients, supplements "internet cures" etc. it took a few years but my bowels and health are better than when I was a child and was undiagnosed. The main thing I've learned: stay hydrated with pure water (I cannot emphasize this enough), remove all obstacles from regular proper rest (7-8 hrs quality sleep), avoid GMOs, avoid unnecessary antibiotics especially zpack and doxycycline. Take probiotics and yogurt regularly
But especially during and after antibiotic use. Take all steps necessary to reduce stress. I know it's seems impossible, but you can heal your body. Do everything possible to help your body heal. Good luck.

I think she only uses an ounce in that vid and that would prob yield about 4 grams of oil, but 4 grams of oil would last a pretty good while and is so much more medicinal. If your stressed and having constant bleeding though I would be getting the maximum amount of cannabis possible into my system. I seem to have come to a stable place with my disease, but I still ingest as many cannabinoids as possible...good luck I hope you feel better, I'm not sure what the medical options are in NJ, but at least you guys have it! And I passed on Humira too, I decided I'd rather have the Crohn's symptoms than Crohn's and lymphoma or crohn's and TB...

barelyalive, u may want to look into growing your own thats w/o a doubt the easiest and cheapest way to get RSO if you cant afford to buy it or cant find it

I also believe marijuana bc when I smoked it seems like I was in remission then I was graduating and needed to apply for jobs so I stopped for 3 weeks and still failed my drug test and now my crohns is back full force and I am scheduled for another colonoscopy on Wednesday bc I haven't been doing well and was on 6 mp and 60 mg of prednisone and felt like I was getting roid rage so my doctor was lowering my dosage weekly to take me off the prednisone. I know people say it isn't good to smoke but do those people realize the side effects of the remicade, humira, methotrexate, 6 mp, pentasa which I have been on all of them. Now I might not get the job but I called and was honest about my crohns but they said I would need a note from my doctor. I have a call in to the doctor but bc I'm in a state that doesn't have it yet I'm not sure if the doctor will back me up. But I truly believe and no that I stopped earlier in 2013 and started bleeding, cramping, throwing up, diarrhea 10 times so I started smoking again and all my symptoms were getting better. I really need to get medical marijuana

So then who is producing it and selling it as Rick Simpson Cannabis oil at MM Dispensaries?

How do you know you are getting quality cannabis oil if its not branded?

Anything labeled as Rick Simpson oil is just decarboxylated hash oil. Which means it's active orally. It's usually very dark because of the process of decarboxylation.

Actually, even smoking cigarettes is actually said to help people with UC (and Crohn's as well, I think?) because of the nicotine. My previous GI also told me to even try cannabis.

I'm sorry about your bad luck with your illness, though :( I hope you can get on MMJ soon.

I was told, recently, by my doctor that Remicade is the only biologic that you cant stop and start (although I was able to 2 times without incident). Humira is fine because it doesn't use mouse protein like Remicade.

You can stop and start Humira but I believe it can stop working. Also, it's such a new drug I would be skeptical. There are plenty of FDA approved meds that get pulled a few years later. Caveat emptor.

I watched the video. How much do you take? Do you think it would be cheaper to just smoke it? I definitely feel better after just a few puffs, but if there is a possibility of "cure" with the oil, it would be worth it. Is it basically just hash?

Is it basically hash? Basically yes. But it's like bathtub Gin, if you don't know the source of the material or process it was manufactured, it won't work. Poprly made Hash from crap herb will not make u feel better. So yeah the right hash can cure or eliminate symptoms in some people.

I'm old, but I was a hippie girl, haha. so figuring it all out again. I can say with 100% sincerity that I feel better after I smoke. My son suggested it. It's the only time I can eat, really. Thanks.

You can also find herb that makes you feel better and bake brownies or edibles it will work AIts as good as the oil. Again, quality is first concern. Keep taking asuch as you can tolerate until you feel better. It really works.

For people that vape: how much would you say you use and how often? I've been using MMJ for my sleep lately but keep worrying about building up a resistance/needing to take a break for a bit. (I have resistance problems with everything.)

I just finished my vape oil (Rick Simpson Oil?) I loved it, but we aren't going to be able to get it for a long time so I am pretty bummed about it. I don't know where else to get it

I try to dab a 1/4 of a tic tac sized wax at a time. The beauty of cannabis is that of you start developing a tolerance then it's working. Up the dose. I have been trying to kill myself with cannabis for over 20 years and it's impossible. Also, you do not have to worry about an unbearable withdrawal syndrome like with painkillers. Even heavy use of cannabis produces negligible withdrawal symptoms. Skipping your coffee is worse.

How much I ingest depends on how I feel and what I have to do that day. depends on if I am working, what I am working on, and how much driving I have to do. I have the luxury if shopping and sampling dozens of strains at a time. I find something that makes me feel good and I go with that strain. It may sound like a simplistic way of going about it but it's what humans and animals have been doing forever: self experimentation. Cannabis influence is better for certain things than others. Eg if you have to do a lot of math or computer programming (super left brained) then take it easy. When you are at home and don't have to drive or do math then enjoy! The effects are only debilitating to people who rarely smoke then smoke as much as a daily smoker.

Johnny O is right in pretty much every aspect... Thanks for being a great source of truth and enlightenment.. I'm actually not too far from you.. we should link up sometime!

It's been a while since i've posted, i've been dealing with two pesky fistulas that have thread setons in them. I am currently taking Humira on a test run and i've come to the conclusion that I will be slowly tapering off and kicking it to the curb. As always I will keep everyone informed... a

Adding medical Cannabis in your treatment is different for everyone.. But you soon build up your CBD and other beneficial chemicals and then results are usually seen.. Just as everyone has different taste buds and preferences you will need to find the one best for you..

I also have the luxury of trying multiple strains to find the one ( or ones ) that suit me well. I have my heavy medicine for nights and those days i'm in more pain and don't have much going on.. and I have others that leave me craving activity like hiking or hitting the water... There are some that even enhance focus.. which actually help tremendously while doing tedious computer programming strokes or other things of that nature.. You just need to find what suits your needs.. I mostly smoke flower through a water pipe because I like it the way nature gave it to me... but sometimes I will indulge in making canna-lard (or butter) and making some tasty treats as well as other tested oils or concentrates..

Diet is everything as well guys... Drinking WATER... is something that has seem to have gotten lost among most of us. Stay with water.. keep it on you all the time.. and if you're going to drink juice keep it 100% (ie OJ..AJ... ) Add greens to the diet... more and more greens.. Grass-fed beef ( there's constantly evidence showing a large difference in the quality of fat being produced ) Staying away from GMO produce and other foods that are highly processed.. full of complex (empty) sugars.. and laced with chemicals.. and the most important... Yoghurt... Oh the beneficial Lactobili.. Make your own yoghurt and ferment it for 24+ hours..

Check out "breaking the vicious cycle" for more on that.. but the imbalance of gut bacteria and the attack on the microbiome through our diet... chemicals.. air.. are doing a number on our immune system (which is technically made up of these bacterias) Repopulating your gut with the good guys is something I do on the daily basis. Do not be tricked by the store produced yoghurt.. stuff is terrible..

There is a lot of misinformation out there so the best way to find the truth.. (or closest to the truth) is to do the research yourself! I've learned everything I know from other like minded individuals as well as public articles and studies found ( through HOURS of googling)

Growing your own medication is most definitely the best way to go.. You have control over what you feed it.. the care it gets.. as well as the harvest techniques.. It's also self gratifying when you get to see your baby grow from a tiny munchkin to a full blooming female... (I am just as proud of my tomatoes and peppers on the porch!... I promise...) and who DOESN'T want to play in the dirt... ok... that may just be me.. but seriously..

Same goes for making Cannabutter or other oils as well (or as I make... Canna-Lard.. from local pasture raised piggies :) Just be sure to always follow proper, safe techniques.

Anyways.. I've rambled on enough..

Peace.

I just finished my vape oil (Rick Simpson Oil?) I loved it, but we aren't going to be able to get it for a long time so I am pretty bummed about it. I don't know where else to get it

In non med states making your own is the way to go...see the video I posted earlier on making your own...

Yea if your working up a tolerance then your doing it right/its working. I only use concentrates instead of flowers at this point and I "vape" my oils ab every 4-6 hours and I still get "stoned" from it, but nothing else gets close to touching my crohn's symptoms like hash oil. I do about .5-1.0 gram a day, I'd really like to see how much thc is in my blood...

There are different kinds of hash oil, RSO is not meant to be smoked or vaped necessarily, and supposedly has the most medicinal benefits as the whole plant its used for extraction vs. trim/buds or only buds. Also the process of making RSO generally doesn't produce a 100% clean hash (left over solvents remain), but grain alcohol is often used to make it so ingesting wouldn't be harmful. Butane, CO2, Isopropyl, Ice water, etc are used to make hash thats smokeable or vaporizable. And its def cheaper to smoke herb than to use concentrates but I feel like smoking herb helps alleviate symptoms in the short term while concentrates have the ability to provide long term relief and perhaps lasting remission....DABS (vaping concentrates off a hot titanium nail) are awesome and are keeping me in remission right now, I do have to be careful not to get too much at once if I have stuff to do tho lol

DABS are my favorite! They are so powerful I have to be seated and need a few minutes to adjust to the effects before going on about my day. I like the precision of dosing with dabs or vaping vs edibles. Edibles last much longer and are harder to dial in a dose that is effective but not too strong.

Yea at this point I pretty much exclusively DAB concentrates now, I dont mess with flowers and I'm off pharma's
