Does anyone have experience in shortness of breath having been on new meds for a period of time. I would like to hear if you do as I am currently suffering from this.

I haven't experienced this, myself. What medication is causing this issue for you now? Does it happen with every new medication or just some of them?

Hi, welcome to the forum. Shortness of breath is a serious side effect. I experienced it myself from taking Compazine - it was frightening! I told my doctor about it, and was advised to immediately stop taking it. They also put in my file that I'm allergic to it, so I'll never be prescribed it again. I would say call your doctor right away and let them know that this is happening. They'll likely switch you to a different medication that doesn't cause a reaction like this. What medication is it that is causing this reaction?

The drug which is possibly causing it is sulfasalazine, It's not just breathing difficulties I have scarring and inflammation of the lungs. I am seeing both respiratory and gastro consultants but nobody wants to make a decision what to do at the moment as although I am fairly certain of the cause ie the drugs they are not.

It's hard to know because you do have lung issues. I would say its a very serious concern though. Your doctor may want to put the drug on hold till you have further pulmonary testing to see what the cause is. Please make sure to be in close contact with both doctors.

I'm surprised they don't want to stop the medication for a short period to see if your symptoms lesson or go away entirely. Sulfasalazine/Azulfidine isn't like Prednisone where if you suddenly stop it, it may cause more problems. I'd talk to your GI about stopping it for a short period to see if it improves your lung function.
