Hi

Can an MRI diagnose Crohn's even in the early stages?? My doctor has sent me for numerous tests that keep coming back inconclusive and I was wondering if I should ask him for an MRI, I don't really thinkit would hurt any but just was wondering if this test is good at diagnosing crohn's or not.

I had an MRI recently. I wasn't extrememly ill and they said it showed evidence of Crohn's so I don't see why not! Good luck x

I asked my family dr about the MRI today and well he doesn't think it will do any good. So that idea went down the drain.

My advice would be to get a second opinion. I have had a few CT scans and colonoscopies and have always had to resort back to having a MRI for more conclusive results as to exact amount of inflammation and active disease. In saying that I had diagnosis before MRIs were done. In fact I went for an MRI yesterday and am now nervously awaiting results. The only way I think you can get an accurate diagnosis would be from a biopsy or tissue sample from inside your bowels,which is generally done during a colonoscopy. You may have sent posts before regarding what tests you have had done, is a colonoscopy one of them? The sample is lab tested and the diagnosis is very accurate this way. Talk to your doc about having this done, at least then you will know.

I've already had the colonoscopy and had a bioPsy come back unspecific to be honest I had two of them. This is actually my third doctor and still no luck in the diagnosis. First doc said yes second said no third said maybe. This is so frustrating. Most of all my tests come back either clear or inconclusive. So I was just trying to think if an MRI would show anything. I go back to my family doctor next week I will ask him again. I know for sure at this point he is sending me for a ct scan I hope that helps.

Have you been back to your doc yet? Do you know any more about what is going on? Must be so frustrating. Diagnosis or not, the limbo must be doing your head in! Take care and keep us updated.

Hi Snookums

Last visit with my Gi was on May 19 and all what he had to say was my Pill camera came back good with no signs of crohns and feels that the ulcers he found in my TI are not what is causing my problems. He said they could turn into crohn's later on and he doesn't want to treat it as crohn's because of how toxic some of the medications are. He then told me that he was sending me for a Ct-Scan (another).
About a week ago I got a phone call from the hospital that I have a nuclear test scheduled by him to see if there is a endocrine tumor hidden somewhere that is causing problems. I wish he would of told me about it on the day of the appt instead of springing on the big C word by the hospital.
I spoke to my family doctor about it and he feels that the nuclear test will not find anything because endocrine tumors are extremely rare. My family doctor has prescribed Lomotil for the diarrhea I am taking 1 a day for the past week and a half it is helping make my day bareable but I now feel that my body is fighting it and I might have to up the dose to 2 a day. I see my family doctor again tomorrow and will ask what he thinks. Also my family doctor wants to try me on some type of Bile acid sequestrant after the nuclear tests are done to see if perhaps there is a complication with that. OH I have a referral to another GI who specializes in the Pancreas I guess my specialist wants to get that checked out too.
I feel so much like a guinea pig right now its not even funny. And yes It is so getting to my head, I started seeing a phycologist about two weeks ago and she actually contacted my family doctor and said that they need to hurry and find out what is actually wrong with me because I am fading away mentally and physically.
I honestly think no one will beable to find the problem. I know I shouldnt think like that but its been 13 months so far. I so want to ask him to try crohn's meds just to see but I know how toxic they are, but would it hurt to try it for a few months, to see.
