IF anyone has any brands that are used by Crohns kids/teens with absorption issues.. I"d love to get the information! He was on a liquid by childlife, but he hates it so I need to find a softgel or tablet.

I'm looking for fish oil, probiotic, and multivitamin as well as fruit/veggie supplements like greens, etc. Multivitamin can have no iron in it and has to have 500 mg vit c, plus d3 , b vitamins, etc. Not sure if I need to add digestive enzymes also.

Thanks in advance

This is the version of vitamin D3 I like. I love that it has the necessary cofactors included. Note that it doesn't contain anywhere near enough magnesium and most Crohnies are deficient and need much more, but it's the best D3 I've found.

I'm not a huge fan of multivitamins but prefer to target specific deficiencies. For example, if you're lucky, a multi might have 50-100mg of magnesium. Someone who is deficient, based upon age and sex and other factors would need 400-800mg. Vitamin B12 in multis will be absurdly low whereas someone with Crohn's who is deficient will often need injections of 1000mcg. A multi might have 200-400iu of vitamin D whereas most Crohnies will need 2000-5000iu.

the dr hasnt told me to supplement him with anything other than vit c. should I ask or just get him additional supplements? He doesn't like fruits/veggies at all. I've even tried juices/smoothies... so I'm sure he needs more than just vit c.

I take Dr. Mercolas whole food multivitamins. They are not cheap but they are one of the better ones out there.

No Iron, has 5,000 iu of D-3, has 500 mg of C, 4 mg of B-6, 10 mcg B-12, 500 mg Magnesium amino acids and enzymes vegetables fruits and herbs.

You can look at the label on his web-site.

The problem is that it is for adults and I do not see a child's dosage. It is probably OK for teens. They also are horse pills and you need to take 8 a day given they are made of plants and such.

He may have children's vitamins as well.

I also have used his Krill Oil, but have used other brands as well.
I use Krill Oil instead of Fish Oil because it has more antioxidants so it does not spoil easily. It also is easier to absorb and it also has Astaxanthin.

Hope this helps.

Dan

I used Liquid Vit D3 made by NOW. Vit C is water soluble so you should be able to crush and add water/juice usually so long as they are not extended release. Fish oil I use natures best mini pearls. Probiotics I use are VSL or Florastor. Right now we are using both. A good digestive enzyme is enzymedica we use the reg one called digest or digest basic, they have different ones that go up in price like digest gold, we don't buy this one bc $$$. We use them all day long before meals. My kid has some absorption issues (no colon).

In regards to multi... We use Natures Plus Childrens vita-gels but they do have 5mg of iron. It is hard finding a good multi vitamin that meets you needs. I like these bc they carry extra of the B Vitamins I supplement the rest. Good Luck! Took me forever to find this one.

Yes, it's really hard to find what he needs and in a form that he will take. He doesn't like liquids and I'm not looking for capsules because they don't do well with him. I have been looking for softgels or maybe tabs, something he can swallow easily without having to take each thing individually

Ok, I just found Buried Treasure VM 100 complete.. http://www.vitacost.com/buried-trea...016055453784&gclid=CI-em9b4n7UCFSOnPAod4X8AKw

It is a liquid which is not great because of the refrigeration requirement (we go out of town quite a bit) and because he doesn't like them, but.. it doesn't have iron and looks like it has everything else. As long as its ok to take this one with remi, I may have to use it if I don't find a swallow one soon

My son's doctor at the University of California San Franciso (UCSF) suggested VSL#3 as a probiotic. I guess it has been researched and peer reviewed. This is gluten free. It's not cheap. I got the best deal ordering it from my grocery store pharmacy (Safeway), because I didn't need to pay shipping. $59 for 60 pills. My 17 year old son has only been taking them for two weeks (diagnosed in Nov.), so I can't give you any feedback. It also comes in a powder form for a liquid version.

(Sorry I can't post the link. Google VSL#3)

I'm also curious about the fish oil.

Hope this helps.

Someone gave me a link to a fish oil recommended by their two different hospitals. Thank you for the probiotics info.. our gi was supposed to look into prescribing that for him, but I have found a couple other high powered ones that may be ok. Still working on the multis, and fruit /veggie supplements but running out of time because he's almost out.
