Hello all,
Im trying to gather as much information as possible, so any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated/ outcomes of either.

Im 32 weeks pregnant now and my baby doctors and surgeon suggest different options on the birth of my first child. the baby doctors clearly want me to have a natural birth whereas my surgeon thinks a csection would be better for me.

I had surgery about a year and half ago for bowel obstruction n fistula, resection and removed appendix.

I would personally feel more comfortable doing the csection and having a bowel surgeon on hand for delivery. I understand something could happen during the surgery that could result in having a colostomy bag, ect. I came to terms with knowing i might have to have one of these because of the surgeries ill endure for the rest of my life. maybe theyre trying to scare me? anyway it would be planned and well thought out. I wonder how often they accidentally cut into bowels while performing csections? Also my surgeon says that i really should save every muscle fiber i have left down there especially since i want to have more kids...

So where i lose sleep at night is this. What if something goes wrong trying to do it naturally? What if i rip everything up down there and it causes more fistula? What if he is breech and i need to have a csection anyway? Will they have time to get a bowel surgeon over to delivery? What if i go into labor at night time and i have the same scenario? What about when i get older and my body starts to not be as tight? Wont my bowel be all sloppy adding to the awful D i already get?! ...

I also know a few ladies who have had natural births but then have awful flares afterward....

I know everyone is different. I just pray to find an answer.

Thank you for reading

 I'm so sorry you didn't get a response to this thread. You must have stumped us. :p

What did you end up deciding, and how did it go?

I just saw this.....I had a c-section, I also had active fistula that my doctors didn't want me to rip, or cause damage trying a natural birth. Everything went well, I was only in the hospital for 3 days I think.

Hope all is going well.....please let us know how you are doing.

Hi, i advise you to have a c section, I had a natural delivery nearly 15 years ago and developed a fistular and I still have it, with my second my surgon said I had to have a c section and evrything went well. Hope everything goes well x

I actually don't have IBD, but my 8yr old son does, which is why I'm on this forum. I did however have 2 c-sections, which went well. It is major abdominal surgery though, so there are risks-including damage to your bladder or bowel. I do know several women (although not IBDers) who had difficult vaginal births, and later required bladder and bowel repairs. It's a bit of a catch-22 situation for you, for sure. All the best to you as you make this difficult decision.

I had c-sections for both of my daughters and they went perfectly. I would highly recommend doing a c-section (though by now, I'm sure the decision has already been made one way or another). Both my GI and my OB were on the same page with ordering the C-sect to avoid any complications with putting pressure on the bowels and rectum. None of my doctors talked much about the risks of the c-sect, probably because the risks of natural birth were so much higher, so they were trying to talk me into have the baby naturally. Good luck, and make sure to let us know how it all worked out.

I ended up getting the c-section. I'm so glad I did. I had Vaughn a week & 1/2 ago and so far no flares. My ob said she didn't see any abscess while doing the csection and used glue instead of staples to put me together. Apparently a study had just come out that said it was better for some reason, I can't remember why because of all the craziness going on. Vaughn and I are doing great and I'm so glad I went with my surgeons advice over the ob doctors pushing for natural. I've only heard bad things about women with crohns doing it naturally. I feel like the OBS only care about the baby rather than what's best for the mother too. Thank you everyone,
