New and looking for food tips for my love with crohns

Hello everyone! I'm Kristy, my fiancé has just been diagnosed with crowns. I'm heartbroken because it seems like everything i cook for him makes him sick. the doctors haven't been very helpful in anyway and i was wondering which of he diets on this site have worked best for people and i wanted to see if anyone had any good recipes they could share!

also, he is going on tour with his band which would usually equal bad eating. i was wondering if there was anyone who had any tips for eating on the road with crohns. any information would be great as I'm sick of watching him struggle with this and he's quite embarrassed about having this so isn't exploring options as much as he could be.

Thanks!

While in a flare the low residue diet worked out well for me. Didn't get me in remission (so far medication has a better track record than dieting alone) but did help make me have less symptoms. You can make any dish low residue friendly. Also when on the road when you understand your diet and decide to follow it, you know what's ok to eat and what's not and can easily ask for certain things to be left out or added. Its up to him if he wants to actually follow the diet while he's on the road no matter which diet he decides to try.

Kristy, you could keep a food diary of what foods he seems to be able to tolerate and what affects him badly. We all seem to be different in what we are able to eat, especially when we are in a flare - that's one of the problems with Crohn's, it's so idiosyncratic. A lot of people can't tolerate wheat, others (but not me) have problems with dairy. I would start with low residue, fairly bland and move out from there.

Hi, I have just joined this site to let people know that i have a blog for endometriosis diet but that includes food safe for people who dont eat eggs, red meat, dairy, gluten, wheat, my recipes include no rice either. This is really helpful for people who have alot of inflammation, I have a post on the different types of flours that contain wheat and gluten and which ones are safe to use. Anyway the link is josephine-eliza.blogspot let me know if it helps x x

On the road, I would say eat grilled chicken or eggs whenever possible with no sauces. If it's feasible, I'd hard boil a bunch of eggs and throw them in a cooler. Aside from that, I live on 100% nut butters (peanut/almond with no hydrogenated oil or sugars) on sprouted grain bread. Like, he could throw a couple jars of that and a loaf of bread in a cooler possibly. Apples are pretty non-parishable.

Generally, I would advise high protein and no sugar/transfats. Also supplement with probiotics, usually taken on empty stomach before bed/upon waking. Garden of life Primal Defense Ultra seems to be most widely available and most people like it. This can be found 30+% off at online megaretailers. Surf the site I'm sure you'll find tons of helpful pointers.
