Hello,
I am 23, married, mother of 2 small children. I just was told i have Crohns by an ER doctor in July 2012. I don't know a lot about it but it explains a lot of things i have dealt with since i was about 15 years old. I do not have any health care medicaid won't cover me they say that my husband makes too much money even though he is only making $16 an hour at 40 hours a week. And his job does not offer healthcare. So, i am kinda screwed. Trying to figure out if there are any alternative ways to get health care so i can start seeing a doc. If any one has any advice that would be very helpful!

Jen

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

I'm afraid I cannot help with your query about healthcare - I am from across the pond. Hopefully someone will come along shortly who can assist with this. Out of interest when you were first diagnosed were you given any meds then? What symptoms do you still have and do you notice any improvements with dietary changes?

First off welcome to the forum:)

Unfortunately I cannot help you with alternative ways to get healthcare but I am sure another member has some answers for you.
If you are interested in maybe alternative methods to stay healthy you can take a gander at the Diet Fitness and Supplements (click that) sub forum. Also you can take a look through the Treatment sub forum and look for alternative treatment methods.

I hope this helped a little bit.

And by the way, I love Alaska! What part are you from if you don't mind me asking? :)

Edit: I see you are from palmer:) I've visited the Kenai peninsula a few times so it's kind of close. :)

They gave me some anti-spasmodic meds is all. I have cramping constantly and ocasionally it gets worse depending on what i eat/drink. I have completely cut out all soda, carbs, grains, sugars from my diet and have been doing a lot better until yesterday my 2 year old split his chin open so we were in the ER getting him stitches and got home late so my Mother in law got taco bell for everyone for dinner and i ate it and then at 4am this morning i was writhing in pain and still hurting a bit....thinking about going to the ER but not sure cause i know it will just mean another huge bill. I am sure this is probably a flare up from taco bell....watching what i eat is my only medication right now so i have to be very careful and my Mother in law doesn't get it.

I have been doing a lot of diet changes the last few months and those diet changes seem to be helping A LOT....Its hard because we are living with my husbands family and his mom does not understand why i won't eat certain foods even when i explain it.

Hi there and welcome.

It is absolutely critical that you get under the care of a good GI who understands Crohn's Disease. I understand that you don't have health insurance, but if you can swing the cost of a visit to a GI, then can prescribe you medications that can come VERY cheap with financial aid from those companies. Like free or $5.00 type cheap.

And yes, the dietary changes and such are great too. Hit this disease from every angle you can. But please, get in to see a GI even if you have to pay a little out of pocket. Getting the disease in check is so important.
