Hi guys. Have had my stoma for 5 days. And I have a few questions.

1. At the moment there is a high output, will this slow down? Are there foods which create less output?
2. The smell makes me wretch, does the smell get any better?
3. I have quite a swollen, tender tummy, how long until I get my old tummy back?
4. How long did it it take for you to get some form of routine or ease with everything?

Thank you all so much!!

Hi there :)
i've had mine for 6 weeks now... time flys but i'm feeling great !! :)
i noticed that over night mine has more output which in a way is good because i don't have to empty it as much during the day. i think it evens out and will produce more output at one time of the day? if you eat stoggie foods like heaps of bread (white bread) and potato that should make it slow down too i've noticed.
haha - smell... yeah no. hahah it's still not good but its only when you change it? i'm getting used to it.
my stomach is still swollen after these 6 weeks so that might take some time and i'm only just starting to exercise again.
i found it very easy to get into a routine :) i change mine at night after a shower which seems to work for me.

its so hard for the first week or so... had a few melt downs and leaks but the pains gone so i really can't complain. i pray you find it comfortable soon... if you have any questions please don't hesitate to private message me. always up for a chat :) xo

Hey. Ah thank you so much :) I'm feeling a little nauseous too. Nothing major and the out put is still coming. Did you ever have this? Any ways of easing it?

aw no sorry! i haven't felt nauseous at all so unfortunately i can't help you on that one :( maybe if you talk to your GP you can get anti-nauseous tablets? something to take the edge of it... were you told that would happen? maybe check with the specialist too :)

1. Yup. It slows down.
Be patient whilst your body adjusts - it can take months.

2. Hah - yes - the stench does get better.
Mine was like an assault of the senses. Now - meh.
I do have the fan on when I empty though. It has an amazing capacity to linger.
But I reckon it smells better than regular poop.

3. No idea. I had active disease on my Stoma and the skin was torn.
It took months to settle and I was in a lot of pain.
This is not common.

4. It took me months to settle in to it.
I found it very challenging psychologically and I was very very sick.
Now - meh. I'm all good with it now.

Just be patient. It takes time to settle.
