I am new to this forum... its 2;30 am est and I can't sleep I just recently go diagnozed with crohns'... I just spend the last 4 days in hospital trying to get my head around this..I have a friend who has been dealing with this disease since she was a teenager..I been there when she has been at the hospital and thought sheesh what do you have to do to get some help ..I remember one time she was there 8 hrs or so and all they did was send her home:((.. I sat in the ER here for hrs at one point I was taking for a CT and left outside on a bed for over a hr waiting to be taking back to ER....however when I was finally told what my illness is i was not surprised at all kinda thrown back but not surprised....however since i got home and been spending thinking about what it is i have..which i don't know all that much ..I am learning ..its like I am 53 what else can been thrown at me..Two years ago i suffered a small stroke recoverd from that..went through cancer scare ... and nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I don't know where to turn :(((( I just finished watching the Titanic on the history channel and i was thinking sheesh to go with ship right now might be a good thing...

I am most likely just feeling sorry for myself ...however just cuz i am 53 does not mean i don't get scared and whats from here on in..

when i told my boss that i had crohns' she just kinda laughed and said you can live with that .....

So if my freind Amy from Maine is on the forum (not sure she is) all that time i saw and felt your pain before I now live...thank you ...I am so your my friend and have shown me its liveable not always nice but liveable

Hi and welcome x

I remember when I got diagnosed and I just felt relief that it had a name!

When I told my boss at the time she said "oh that's not serious is it!". I felt like screaming at her - yeah thats why I've been off work so much!!! She was a cow though.

People don't know much about Crohns unless they have it or know someone who has it.

Anyway - sorry for waffling on your thread and welcome again :)

Hi and welcome...everyone here is awesome and you can say anything...everyone tries to help everyone out and as stated before no one really knows about the disease unless you know someone or have it yourself...it sucks and some days are really crappy (no pun intended:)..)...keep you're head up and we're all here for you!!!

Hi Alsdad,
Sorry to hear of your pain an anguish, it is a miserable diagnosis, and it sounds
as though your medical support is less than optimal.
I was older than you when diagnosed four years ago and I am still shattered at times.
However, we have to make the best of what we have and look forward to remissions. There is always something positive about each day---I look for the spring flowers now beginning to bloom and the lovely song of the robin---
I have been told by the GI that when older people get Crohn's it is not so bad as the Crohn's of younger ones.
I don't always appreciate this when flaring!
Hopefully it will not lead to surgeries and further complications down the road.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha

Sending all my support your way. I resonate with what you said about being reassured just by knowing that what I had had a name! Even though not everyone understands it, the more we can educate other people about the reality of the disease, the better. Stay strong!
