Just wanted to say hello, I'm a new member although I'm not new to having crohn's - I was diagnosed when I was 17 and I'm 22 now. It took a long time to get under control and I'm pleased to say I'm in remission and technically doing quite well although I still struggle and there's always a new symptom or test result to be figuring out. I'm in my last year at uni which is making things more difficult and I also have a couple of other things including joint hypermobility syndrome. I'm always shy when it comes to talking online but I don't know anyone my age with IBD, I've only met much older people and I would really like to get to know some people who are closer to my age as there are a lot of particularities to being a sick young adult and my friends tend to get upset when I open up about being ill as they're worried about me so I end up comforting them which gets a bit frustrating. I hope this is ok for a first post, I didn't really know what to say or how to word it.

I’m also 22! And Iv had this since I was 6. I also don’t know anyone my age with this. Happy to say hello to you :)

Hello, welcome to the forum,

I'm so glad to hear you're in remission, and I hope that continues for a long time to come, but I think people who don't have the illness maybe assume it means everything is fine, which of course isn't true, so I'm glad you've reached out.

I can totally relate to feeling like you end up comforting people, I feel like that a lot too, and often end up explaining the same thing 50 times which is really frustrating when all you want to do is tell someone how you feel and have a shoulder to cry on. That's where we come in, we're all in the same boat here and we have all been through similar things, so there's always someone around that can understand what you're going through and can relate to how you're feeling.

Please always feel free to come post here when you need to talk or have a question, there's no need to feel embarrassed about anything and we will always do our best to support you.

I know you mentioned your shy about posting so please also feel free to message me privately if you need to, I'm only 25 myself and was diagnosed at 19 after 5 years of symptoms, so I heavily relate to your situation and I'm always happy to help where I can.
