I have been flaring pretty bad since Saturday. I put in an emergency call with the answering service Saturday night. No call. I left a message on my GI's voice mail about 8:30am this morning. No call. My husband emailed around 10:30am. No call. Unbelievable! Are all doctors like this? Am I being unreasonable?

No! You are not being unreasonable!

Have you rung his office and spoken with someone there?

Do you know what is schedule is?

When I ring the GI I will either be put through to him or he will get back to me as soon as he is able. It can be difficult to get onto him though if he has procedures scheduled for the day.

I hope you have heard back from by now though!

Jill, are our GIs both taking off for the summer or something? My GI recently gave me the old brush-off as well, I called his office every day for a week before I finally heard back from him! In my case I was having a bad side effect/reaction to Hyoscyamine, I was so nauseous and vomiting - you'd think a GI wouldn't ignore their patient when there is vomiting involved, but my GI ignored me anyway and then just told me to take Zofran when he finally did get back to me (as I told his nurse and receptionist, I was already taking Zofran but it wasn't making a dent in the nausea! Grr!). SO frustrating, I really feel your pain! Like Dusty said, keep calling his office! Talk to a nurse there if you can or anyone who will listen if your GI isn't available. Go to urgent care or the ER if it gets worse, I'm sure you know the drill. I really hope you feel better soon and get this flare under control, and also that you get ahold of your GI soon, if for nothing else than to yell at him and tell him to do his #$&*ing job! I don't usually get angry but this kind of thing makes me so mad! Doctors shouldn't ignore people who are suffering, it's just not right. Feel better soon Jill!

The squeaky wheel gets the oil. I've had doctors who were always prompt with responses, and I've dealt with some who forget about you unless you're currently on the phone. There can be plenty of reasons for messages to not get through, and it's your livelihood you're dealing with, so don't be afraid to stay on top of them. If they get tired of hearing from you, all they need to do is have the doctor give you a call.

Thanks guys for convincing me that I am not crazy. I felt like a real nudge calling and emailing my GI, but I am suffering over here! But my GI finally did call back around 2pm today. Luckily, she squeezed me in tomorrow in the AM. Not too happy with the response time, but I am happy to get in to see her tomorrow.

@Cat - I can't believe your GI didn't respond for an entire week, especially when vomiting was involved! Did you stop the Hyoscyamine ? Do you feel better?

Phew, that's a relief to hear. :)

Good luck with the appointment and I hope it is nothing serious. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed hun!

Keep us posted!

Thinking of you,
