Hi everyone. First post and a bit scared. Not sure what's going on but I'll try and describe what's happening with my symptoms. I have a Dr appointment coming up in a few days too, but wanted to ask folks here their opinion before then.

Never had issues before, but randomly started noticing a little bright red blood on my stool and my stomach felt a bit sore. Over the next few days, my stomach got better but the little blood continued every couple days, so I saw my Dr.

The Dr. asked if I had trouble using the bathroom, if I was still regular, had diarrhea, felt faint, etc., to which I said everything was great, my only symptom was some small amounts of bright red blood on my stool and TP and the earlier sore stomach. He examined me and diagnosed me with "a couple internal hemorrhoids" and asked that I come back in 5-6 weeks after treating with an OTC medicine. He did say that the stomach pains were odd though. Well about a week later, around my belly button/mid to lower stomach area, I started getting a gaseous bloated feeling (hard to describe) throughout the day that made me feel like I needed to 'let it out.' For the next few days, I needed to pass gas often...and I felt better each time I did. That went away, and I felt great for another week. Now I'm getting random pinches, burning and pulling feelings in my stomach that only last for a second or two and come at random times throughout the day. Another odd thing is that these are all over (upper left, upper right, middle of stomach, lower stomach, side). I cannot isolate 1 area.

Some additional information/recap about all of this:
- I'm 38 and have never had stomach problems or blood in stool until now
- I'm very healthy, not overweight, do not smoke, eat low calorie/low fat foods, and run 1/2 marathons and 5K's nearly every week. My body actually feels great!
- The pains (soreness, burining, pinches) have been felt in nearly all areas of my stomach from my rib cage down to bladder area. The pain is never sever, only aggravating and annoying (could be wrong, but it 'seems' to feel better when I'm laying on my back). It comes and goes throughout the day and does not appear to be influenced by food. I have days/week periods where I've felt fine.
- I have no symptoms other than the occasional blood on stool/TP and burn/itch on the outside of my anus after going to the bathroom (probably due to the hemorrhoids). I also seem to have more gas build-up lately.
- I'm still regular and have not once had diarrhea since the symptoms started
- I've only noticed very small traces of blood on my stool 3-4 times in the past month.
- There was a water ban in the area I work probably around the time the stomach issues started. While I didn't drink any, I may have drank some coffee made from it. Not sure if that could have caused something.

I feel a bit uncomfortable writing all of this about my symptoms, but thank you in advance if you have any insight or words of encouragement.

Has your GI suggested getting any scope procedures done or a breath test to check for small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)? I'm currently going thru the same gamut of tests and procedures to check for GI problems, so I haven't received a diagnosis. I think a scope test is necessary to figure out where the bleeding is coming from. If it is bright red, it usually means that it is closer to the rectum and hasn't been digested (otherwise, it would be dark red). Hemorrhoids don't cause gas or the stomach pains you describe, either. What tests have you had?

Hello and thank you for the response, no tests as of yet. I go back on Monday and Im sure he'll want to order some or refer me to a GI.

I just looked up SIBO and that certainly seems like a possibility considering my symptoms. Is there anything I said that makes it sound like my condition might not be Crohns?

I'm no expert since I'm still learning about it myself. It could be CD or another form of IBD. In fact, SIBO is common in those with IBD, especially when there is inflammation in the small bowel. Only a doctor can provide an official diagnosis. I would definitely ask for a referral to a GI - one that specializes in IBD. My GP (internal medicine specialist) referred me to a GI who is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology, so he's been very helpful so far. :)

I was able to get an appointment for later today. The ironic thing is, this morning, I feel 100% so far with no symptoms. I even ate some peanut butter toast and some crackers earlier.

That is ironic, but I've found that my symptoms can come and go. Most of the time, the Bentyl helps me, but not 100% and I still have symptoms. I'm glad you got an appointment today. Wishing you luck. :)

Thank you everyone. I did want to ask, does it seem odd that my discomfort has moved over the course of a month and has been in nearly every spot of my stomach at some point vs. being localized?

Just left the Dr. As expected, he referred me to a GI in 2 weeks to discuss getting a colonoscopy. I'm also scheduled for an ultrasound tomorrow...and depending on how that goes, a CT scan if the GI feels it necessary. Should have ttasound results Monday though.

Overall, the Dr. said there were more good signs than not with my symptoms and that I was a bit old for Crohns...but that things dont always follow the book. I'm a bit nervous, but at least Im taking steps, I guess...

That dreaded "C" word. I remember sitting in the exam room waiting for the doctor to finish next door at my last appointment. I remember looking at the human anatomy pictures of the GI tract and seeing a picture describing various diseases of the colon. Since his nurse already told me that the gallbladder scan was normal, I was wondering if it was GI related, since I was already diagnosed with IBS. Somehow, the thought popped into my head, "I hope he doesn't want to do a colonoscopy." Just that word alone made me uncomfortable. When he came in and he discussed that he thought my symptoms were bowel related, he said the dreaded "C" word and my face dropped. I'm not looking forward to it at all, but I trust him and the surgery center where it's being performed (I had my endoscopy there, too, and the staff was AWESOME), so I agreed to it - albeit reluctantly. I'm hoping that this scope test gives answers as to why I'm having my symptoms.

I wish you well for your GI consult. Good luck. :thumright:
