One Year Ago Today

One year ago today a trip to the ER would turn into a resection due to a blockage(jejunum) and my introduction to Crohn's Disease.I had a SBFT in June and the resection site looks good and no inflammation as far as that test could determine.

Perianal CD has decided to be active as the stricturing CD seems to be doing o.k..Five fistula and three setons and Remicade infusions.

I am pleased that I have not been bothered by any more blockages and feel this one year mark is a milestone.I can't say I am in remission but I feel fortunate I'm not dealing with another blockage along with the fistulas.

It may sound silly,but I just wanted to make it one year with out another blockage.Obviously I want remission,but this one year mark is important to me.

Congratulations Dave. I should celebrate the same. One year ago i survived a severe obstruction followed by a heart attack and some strange complications. Yess i am fortunate that i didnt have another blockage till now.!! I am thankful that i was able to go to work again and trying very hard to keep it. I am very thankful that i may be able to drive my car again this month. Thank you all for support and for sharing your stories.

Glad you made it through the obstruction and than a heart attack.Wow! I hope you can drive your car later this month too.Support,that's what the forum is all about.I have benefited greatly from everyone here,from information to having a shoulder to cry on and everything in between.I hope to be posting a two year note of thanks.I don't want to get ahead of myself,but I sure hope I will be able to.

I hope you are able to keep your job.I have reduced my hours at work but some days it is quite a challenge to make it through a shift.Is your employer fully aware of your situation? I hope your latest blockage can be resolved soon and you can focus on getting healthy.Keep us in the loop.

Ironically, my employers are doctors and fully aware of both Crohns and ischemic heart disease but sometimes they act like they dont know anything about medicine . I tried to reduce my hours ( and still trying) but our system ( since the time of pharaohs ) is somewhat corrupted. The only advantage I have is my unique speciallity and that both my students and my patients feel that they can not replace me. This is another thing I am thankful for. After each health issue I tell to my patients that I survived only because of their prayers!!

I hope you will eventually be able to reduce your hours.It's great you fill a niche that others can't.Having your employers be doctors and not act on your request for reduced hours is not right.You have valid reasons.

Congrats to u Dave.... That's quite a milestone! I've had my share of obstructions over the years and 3 resection surgeries before finally being diagnosed with Crohn's disease! Coming from a small northern Maine town and limited access to specialists doesn't lend itself to the best of care/diagnosis! Finally got a proper diagnosis after having symptoms for almost 40 years! That's my milestone! Now on Humira and haven't felt this good in years!!! Hopefully this will put me into remission and I can again reach another milestone!!:ybatty::ybatty::ybatty:

Thanks chuckmya,being diagnosed after 40 years and three resection surgeries is quite a milestone indeed.I'm glad the Humira is working for you.We can forget what it is like to feel good,rather than just less crappy.I hope you find remission too!
