Thought I'd start a thread for the equine enthusiasts here!...I know there are some (from avatar pics!).....

Here's a little about my other 'kids' -

I have 3 Paso Fino horses, 2 mares and a gelding. Owned horses for over 20 years, bought my first Paso while I was in high school and lost her 2/09 to old age at 32 years...I had her for 22 of those.....

Currently on the 'farm' is a daughter (Marci) and her son (BB)...and an unrelated mare I got for free a year and a half ago.....

I do a little bit of showing when I can afford it, but mainly ride for fun. My 6 year old daughter has been riding for 2 years now, and this year I plan on getting more serious with her about it.....

Awwww great thread!
I studied Equine Sport Science at University! I'd always been into horses! Started riding at 12 (around the same time i got crohns actually!) on weekends at a local riding school. Did that untill i was 16, then got diagnosed with crohns and then developed a rectal abcess and three fistulas! Thus ALL riding STOPPED untill i was 20 - broke my heart that i couldnt physically ride.
Then when i got better and my abcess calmed down (thank you elemental diet and infliximab) i decided to go to Uni and do Equine Sport Science. My course included yard duties and 'practical lectures'; 2 dressage, 1 jumping, and 1 lungeing a week, along with all the sciency stuff (which was dam hard at times!!) I LOVED every second of it. But my god it was tough with crohns. I had to repeat my entire first year, and then pretty much every unit! Took me 4 years in total to graduate, but i did with a 2:2!! Happiest day of my life! I also had the chance to do my first ever competition and cross country course! - 2nd happiest day of my life!
Since then ive not ridden :'( Ive never owned my own horse and im not in the financial situation to pay for lessons every week. However, I'm having a perminant ileostomy soon, and ive promised my self that as i recover (and long after) i will go riding every week!
I'll try to attach some photos of my final dressage test and cross country :D

testing to see if this works :)

I collect horse plates.

I don't collect horse plates- but I DO collect other horse related items such as Breyer Horses, Hagen Renaker porcelain horses, all kinds of horse books.....

I did have a Ladys' Secret collectors plate at one time, but sold it on ebay...of course AFTER I didn't have the buyers' info any more I found the Certificate of Authenticity!

Oh yeah...I have a polo stick in the garage...hubby still hasn't noticed it in there! :ycool:

Well, I can't say I share your passion but my daughter is eat-up with horse love!! I am the proud new owner of a goose-neck stock trailer because, "I have to have one to get to the 4H trail rides". She has plenty of trails right out our back door!!! But it's no fun riding alone!!!!! Damn horses!! :ymad::ymad:

I LOVE horses, but my hubby would be with Dex on his last comment (he's not so fond of them).

I've always had horses in my life, right now I've got a quarter horse that I've had since a baby (he's 3 now) - this is his baby picture.

Also, a 1/2 Arab, that I got last year

They have been my sanity through some rough times with my son and his disease.

Vicky - couldn't see your picture - you have to try to repost.
Paso, thanks for starting this thread!!
Dexky - you'll be worshipping the ground those horses walk on when all your daughter's friends go boy crazy - but your girl stays grounded because of her horses :)

Yeah!! Best idea ever for a thread!

Vickyoddsocks - your area of study sounds awesome! Wish i could take lessons every week for my study:)

DMS - your horses are gorgeous!

I've had horses since I was 12. Got my first mare. It's a few... :)... years later and now I just have her baby (who is 8). She's a Arab/Quarter horse and we would like to consider ourselves hunters, but I haven't been riding that much this year with the crohns and school. Just not enough energy or time. We have started riding bi weekly in a fun drill so we'll see how that goes.

Best ride I've had in a long time was a couple weeks ago we trailered down to the dyke and just let the horses run as long and hard as they wanted on the gravel surface. It was so amazing.

That's a beautiful horse DMS, but what I'd really like to see are more pics of your beautiful countryside. Those hill/mountains in the background are right up my alley:).

Okay, as requested

Wow!! I'm jealous!! I agree with hubby, 4 wheelers always do as they're told!! A nice quiet horse ride in that scenery would be nice too. Amazing!!

Have the pine bore beetles made it that far north? I hope they never do!!! It's a shame what they've done in the Colorado Rockies.
