Just a quick update. Jaime is out of hospital! She had enemas to help clear blockage. She had cameras down throat and into bowels, with no apparent problems! Biopsies have been taken.

I don't really understand why nothing is showing on camera tests as she is really stuggling with moving anything through her digestive system! It seems to stay in her stomach and then she vomits, and has been really backed up, often with no bowel movement for up to two weeks.

However now she has had the enemas, she has managed to open her bowels and is no longer vomiting (still feels nauseous, and has lots of abdo cramping and pain)

Her bp has been pretty low while in around 80-90 over 42-55, and her pulse rate fairly fast (85-120) Does this seem normal for people with IBD??

It is great to have her home, but I feel she still has a lot to go through..

She has been put back on 30mg pred orally and 20mg pred foam. Also salofalk 1g. She has omeprazole 20mg, calceos and ondansetron for sickness, along with several laxatives.

We have been told that she will get an appointment for clinic and to call the IBD nurse if anything gets worse or changes.

Have they tested her for gastroparesis? The symptoms of this are severe blaoting, pain, and fullness after eating as well as nausea and vomiting after eating. Gastroparesis is where the stomach does not move as it should, the perstalisis is extremely slow and that is where the bloating, nausea, vomiting happens. The blockage is the large bowels also could be that the bowel is not pushing the stool through as well( sluggish bowels). There are tests that can be done to see if it is gastroparesis. There is a test called a gastric emptying scan. Also there are some tests to check the perastalisis of the bowels. There is a test calles the small bowel manometry test that can check for the movement of the small bowel as well.

What are they saying has caused her to obstruct? What kind of meds did they give to help bowel movements pass easier?

Hi

Thanks for your reply!

No I haven't ever heard of this! She has been given movicol, senna and lactalose for constipation (not that any of it seems to help) . While she was in hospital she had an enema too.

It seems to be a viscous circle at the moment with backing up, vomiting, hospital, tests, home!!

My advice to you is to get your daughter an appt if you can with a gastroenterologist that specializes in motility disorders of the gut. I had issues with my small intestines and I would eat just a few bites and feel like I ate a whole huge meal. I also would get severe bloating. I went to so many gastro's who were useless! I finally was told by a friend that I needed to see a gastro who specifically specialized in motiltiy issues of the gut. I think you would get better help. It seems like your daughter has definite perstalisis issues where her intestines and gut are not moving like they should. I am so sorry she is going through all this. How old is she??

Oh, one thing that may help your daughter is a drug called domperidone. I think they sell it in the UK. I live in the States so I had to order mine through the mail. There is also a drug called reglan that also helps move the intestines but it does have more side effects than the domperidone. I will say that when I was having all the gut issues the domperidone was a life saver for me!! It's action is that it helps move the intestines. Also there were some studied done that found that the antibitoic erythromycin can help move the intestines. This is what I was told by my motility specialist at the time..
