Pain 3 inches above belly button - Crohns or other?

This past weekend I began experiencing pain and tenderness about 3 inches above my belly button right in the center of my abdomen. It doesn't feel internal and feels like it's right near the surface of the skin. It's slowly gotten worse and now there is a lump under the skin and it's very tender to the touch.

I called my GI doctor yesterday and he told me to go to the ER. 5 hours and 1 CT scan later the doctors say there's nothing wrong with me. :ymad:

I had a small bowel resection 7 years ago (terminal ileum) so I know what my crohn's feels like when it's flaring so I don't really think it's crohns related. I don't have a fever and the pain doesn't get better or worse with eating (though my appetite has decreased since the pain started).

I thought it could be a hernia but the doctors say no based on the CT scan. Based on other research I thought maybe gallstones or pancreatitis. I don't have any back pain (which seems to be accompanied with those two conditions) and the CT scan is supposedly negative for those as well.

The pain isn't crippling at this point and I can still function but I know it's not normal and it has me worried. Can anyone offer any help or insight?

I was sure I answered this last night, which leads to me thinking what was I doing last night?

I would contact your GI right away for treatment!

BTW- I found my post, looks like this is a common theme right now.

I did contact my GI but he's the one who told me to go to the ER (which was no help at all). Assuming the pain stays the same I'll give him an update on Monday.

I had the same thing in the same place. And I ended up waiting way too long to see my GI. Mine was a abdominal wall abscess and wasn't picked up very well on a CT or ultra sound. I had it drained and it was the result of a fistula. If you start running a temp make sure u go to the er to get checked again.

Aye Matt, that's my thought. Thanks for sharing your experience.
No problem. And mine leaked for about 5 weeks after being drained and it also bursted open in two other spots. I have been on 4 different antibiotics and prednisone and this past week it has finally slowed almost to no drainage and the abscess has almost all healed and the fistula also healed. At one time it was bad enough there was pices of food coming out. So if you can and if u do have a fistula. Try to heal it with medications before surgery. Hope all works out for you and knock on wood mine continues to heal too
