I have not used a forum like this before but I am asking for help with my diagnosis of Crohns. It hurts really bad but I dont know why, Can anyone please give me a clue. the NHS is rubbish - Ive been in pain 17 weeks after first being diagnosed the only thing helping is cocodamal 500gm and that sends me silly. I have been subscribed steroids but still in pain after 8 weeks on this. Any help / advise please:sign0085::sign0085:

Go see a pain doctor and talk about your options. If you tell your GI doc you are in pain they should refer you to one. The pain will start to fade as you go into remission or your disease is less active. Active crohns = pain.

Unfortunately Crohns is very hit and miss to what helps. I started on pentasa, then went onto azathioprine and now on infliximab. Plus a few other drugs including steroids which have failed. As it is a quite personal disease, what may help one person may not another.

Ive been diagnosed for 2yrs and still in a lot of pain, but i have learnt to cope better. You may find that food and drink causes pain. There is a forum area for that which may help.

I do find the NHS great compared to our poor US health care, where they have a lot of trouble getting medicine even if they are insured (if they arent its absolutely awful). Saying that they can take there time a bit, have you got a GI nurse yet?

If after 2 months of steroids you're still in pain, you may not be on a high enough dose. When's the last time you talked to your specialist about your pain? If you're already on a high dose, oral steroids may not be working for you. You might need to be admitted for IV feeding and bowel rest or an NG tube or something. Definitely let your doctor know it's not working as soon as possible.
