painful skin tag developed

Hi everyone,
This is my first post here... but I am having a hard time and really need some advice.

With my Crohn's I have frequent fistula's and abscesses - I have a seton in place to help drain the fistula. Since I have a seton in and I have a little bit of drainage everyday... I constantly have gauze or toilet paper there, usually toilet paper since I go to the bathroom so much. (not much, just enough to cover where the drainage is)

In the past few months I have developed 1 large skin tag and a group of small skin tags on the other cheek (close to the anus). Is this because when I walk it constantly rubs against the paper or what? I was at the doctors last week and she didn't seem concerned with them at all... but for me they are painful, especially the large one. Why would they just pop up like that? Does this happen to other people or is it something going on in my body? Is there anything I can do to get rid of them since they are painful? And how do I keep them from coming back?? I would appreciate your advice or tips on these things... they really are a pain in the butt :):)

Hi KT
Welcome to the forum!
It isnt just you. I have read a lot on here about others having them. Someone will answer your post soon..it seems that the site is slower on the week-ends as people are out and about.
If you look for the "search" tab on the top, type in skin tags and something will pop up while you are waiting for someones reply. I have heard of some people removing their own but that just made me cringe... to be honest. First thing I thought of was infection...or pain...or something .. I have seen commercials for skin tag removers on TV but it was on a woman's neck. If you consider the location of yours, it isn't really in the most sanitary of places. I guess I just hope you would consult your doctor first.
Anyhow, I just wanted to welcome you to the forum and to let you know there are people on here who have tags - it is very common with Crohn's. Hope to see you around the forum ... hope you get a chance to look around.
take care

Hi KT,

Welcome to the forum.

There's an increased incidence of skin tags in people with Crohn's, at least that's what one GI told me in the past. Nothing to worry about, but if they become troublesome they are easily removed. I have to say that I'd be inclined to let your GI take a look and organise the removal rather than try and do it your self.

Perhaps there's something to using the gauze all the time? I never had any tags before I had to live with gauze stuffed in my underwear all the time either.

Regards,

Mark
