I was diagnosed with Crohns when I was 13. I was put of Pentasa, which caused me to have horrible, cystic acne. For about the last 5 months, I have been off Pentasa, and started a no junk food, healthy diet. My cystic acne went away, but the acne is still there. I have a lot of medium size zits that are very deep red. Mostly concentrated on my chin, but I have some on my forehead too. Nothing I do seems to help (benzoil, sacilic acid). How do I treat this? Is acne a side effect of crohns (Does it make me more susceptible?) I shouldnt be getting acne anymore. I am 20, eat healthy and exercise. Any advice? Any herbal supplements? Any help is welcome

When I had acne, proactiv was really helpful. Natural approaches would include gentle tea tree oil that won't damage the skin or aloe vera. While many IBD meds list acne as a side effect, I never heard of acne as an extra intestinal manifestation. There are some skin conditions however that can result as a complication of crohn's.

Are you male? I think from your username you are, but if you're female acne can often be resolved with the right hormone medications (birth control). No idea if there's any similar hormone treatment for males though.

I always found my skin cleared when I was by the sea and swam daily. So I decided to try using pure ground sea salt and dilute with water and just rinse your face with the water it was amazing how much it helped, as most over the counter remedies just irritate the skin and make things much worse. Hope it helps you as much as it helped me.
