Please help what is this pain

Hi all,

Need some help if to only confirm that I am not going mad!!!
Suffering really bad flare last few weeks but the past few days (today especially) Every time I try to eat I am suffering with this AWFUL pain in the middle of stomach just below my rib cage! Bascally it feels like my food is lodged any time I eat I am getting the gurgling noises but the pain is just terrible I have taken buscopan and solpaden (sp?) which doesnt seem to have touched this pain!

Can anyone enlighten me as to what this pain is?

ETA when I say food I mean a morsel of food like a bit of something!
 
Haven't seen previous posts of yours Danni - have you been diagnosed with any sort of bowel disease at this point? This pain could be caused by any number of things. Is the pain immediately after eating, is there a time lag, is it any type of food or some specific types? Do you keep a food journal to track when you eat, what you eat and when the pain strikes? Any other symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, headaches, nightsweats, joint pain? It does sound like some pains I have had that were due to strictures, but a bit more info would be helpful.
 
Hi thank you for replying I'm a Newbie only had a few posts! basically I'm in limbo but colonoscopy in 2009 saw patchy colitis but its been a slow process i suffer from all the above for years but vomiting and overwhelming sweats and nausea during and before d only started this flare up! i have being vomiting on and off past few weeks. i have been to a an e twice past week with these symptoms and had xray and bloods which all are normal so only received fluids and pain meds I'm losing weight daily but am alternating between d and constipation and struggle t eat any small amount of food
 
perhaps stomach ulcer? does it feel like you have been hoofed by a horse? have you tried gaviscon. but i'm not a doc, i just suffer like you are explaining so to speak.

Yep that's a way to describe it but feels like just just lodged and kinda scraping my insides but not moving "down" if that makes sense
 
I had a similar problem but mine seemed to get lodged in my throat mid way down , after 1 day I couldn't eat solids and had the constant sensation of a golf ball in my throat !
It turned out to be ulcers an would coincide with a crohns flare up 3 out of 5 times .
So now I know if my throat starts up again I'm in for trouble lol

So have you been checked for stomach ulcers , have u had an endoscopy or any tests at all that could help us give u more of an idea what's wrong ?
What tests have you had altogether Hun ?

Jen that is exactly what I'm feeling i have had an endoscopy and colonoscopy in 2009 whichi was told straigt after looked to be crohns then was fed back to me by gi as patchy colitis i have really been in limbo since i have received very little info about anything and have been suffering with all the symptoms since on and off only my gp has really been monitoring and treating this with pred when i have been bad!but this is the worst iv ever been i have beaen off work for three weeks now and feel no better
 
Hi Danni,
Sorry to hear of your discomfort.
It looks as if it is time for you to see a gastroenterologist for some repeat scopes. You should not continue to have all these symptoms and pain, yet not have a proper diagnosis and treatment.
A GP is not a gastroenterologist and it is your right to be referred to the proper specialist.

I was scheduled for a scope last wed but was violently sick with the prep and they cancelled scope and admitted me to hospital for iv fluids i am waiting for a call any day to be admitted for for overnight to prep me for the scope but i feel I'm getting worse by the day this not being able to eat is very new to me and the pain wit the smallest amount of food is a killer and just won't go with the feeling the food is trapped below my rib cage and in my neck at the same time!i don't know whether to go to my gp in the morning?
trysha your so right i should be seeing a gi i just feel I've been majorly messed around these past few years :(

So sorry to hear of your continued sickness and trials.
It may be that you should go to emergency as soon as possible and maybe you will receive the proper care.
Ask outright to be seen by a gastroenterologist.

Well just about survived last night got about three hours sleep in total!it got so bad last night i thought bout calling an ambulance!iv been to the hospital twice wit pain in this area in the last week or so and all they do is xray and blood test which come back normal then send me home. this type of pain and feeling is new (and scary!!) i have to see my gp today anyway so I'm goin to explain as this to her i feel everytime i go to emergencyg i have to proove I'm in pain and not well which is horrible for me because I'm not a pers on who makes any noise in pain and consider myself to have a very high pain threshold :(
 
Well went to my doctors this morning and Jen you were some kind of inflammation or ulcers in my esophagus on nexazole for that doctor also started me on pred 60mg. as i was there i got a cal to say my new scope date is JULY! my doctor is disgusted and said i can't possibly wait that long!she said please will call me later after she has sorted/tried to sort this out and update me
 
hi danni, I'm so sorry to hear about your pain. I went through the same exact thing and it ended up being a C Diff infection on top of a Crohns flare. So maybe ask to get checked. Good luck.
 
thank you everyone for your posts.

Just a quick update... my gp rang this evening and we spoke abouther trying to get me a colonoscopy asap. I put the "I have private insurance will that help card" and she was like oh my god why didnt we say this sooner Danielle yes it will definitely help you could prob be in by the end of the week.

Two mins late she rings back with the name of a consultant and said she'll have a letter faxed to him tomorrow if I do not here from him by the afternon to ring him as this appointment should be sorted by the end of this week.
So say a pray!
one thing I am worried about is that today my gp put me on pred 60mg today and tomoro tappering 40mg if im to go in by the end of the week do you think it will affect my colonoscopy results that quick??
 
Bless you! I'm glad you can go privately and get seen straight away. Colonoscopy will help, but it sounds to me like the problem is higher up. Perhaps a barium with follow through and a CT scan. If it is a partial blockage, and it sounds like it might be, you certainly need to be seen immediately.

My gp is faxing over the letter today usually she is quite thorough with her information so hopefully she'll include all m present complaints and I'm sure it would be obvious to the consultant. i hope so anyway i don't seem to be having much luck!she also said i should have went to the private hospital aand e and prob would have had all my tests done and everything by now!hindsight is a wonderful thing!lol
one thing I'm going to do is be more assertive and ask for copies of results etc as looking on this forum i realise i know so little about results of previous testing etc
 
Regarding the pred affecting the results?

Pred is a wonder drug but it doesnt actually cure the problem it kind of masks it - my GI hates me being on it because he worries my bowel could perforate and i wouldnt notice (this happened previously where i had peritonitis on 60mg of pred and no-one could understand why i wasnt in any pain!)

So basically any tests after pred will still show Crohns - if the pred reduces the inflammation you will still see scarring from where it was ?

On that does of pred you should feel better after 2 doses.

I hope the colonoscopy is soon.
 
I had my scope after being on IV steroids and a 30mg taper (scope done around 20mg I think). And they clearly saw ulcerations and biopsies confirmed Crohn's inflammation.
 
Thank you that was what i hoped you guys would say!I'm waiting on the call this afternoon so hopefully all will be sorted by this afternoon and ill know when I'm going in.
@fruitloop only had first 60mg dose yesterday and felt energy and kept pain away all day but come 7 last nite i was exhausted, pain is niggly since about 5 and the joint pain and familiar d feeling in my tummy is back so need the next dose pretty soon lol
 
Hi all just a quick update i have my colonoscopy appointment on Tuesday morning will be admitted on Mon for prep!
d seems to have died done thanks to pred but still the urgency just can't I'm unless its totally soft!

have also noticed little "bubbles" around and out of my bum about three the don't seem to be piles any ideas?
 
Only if they are painful. Sounds like skin tags to me if it's just there, and doesn't hurt or drain. If it looks like a tiny abscess and hurts, tell your doctor. If it looks like a little pink bubble or tag, it's just the result of a little fissure inside. It can become a problem later, but you will know because it will hurt.
