I have just endured an emergency (non lapro) resection where about 12 inches of lower intestine was removed. Right now I am taking no meds and I am meeting with my GI next week to discuss what if any I should take. I have been fortunate in that I have had Crohn's for 24 years and really only took Azulfidine then Pentasa the last 10 years. This was my first operation.

So I was wondering what meds do most people go on after surgery? My doctor mentioned going on Remicade or Imuran, but I am wondering if that may be overkill since they removed the diseased portion. I am interested what other members that have similar experiences suggest.

Thanks in advance.

Well it depends on rather you have chrons or UC if you have Chrons the disease will come back and start attacking you again that is why the remicade or immuran it suppresses that immune response. The surgery took the bad portion out but if you have chrons it spreads unfortunately surgery rarely fixes it

I do have Chron's, but was wondering if the immune suppressants are standard procedure after an operation.
