Okay, so we use cloth diapers - mainly because they are the best at actually holding in everything, but now we are potty training and can't find a trainer that will work.

If you have/had a child this young with IBD, what trainers did you like?

Well for Grace as horrible as it sound in the house she went with out pull-ups or under-ware.
Two reasons

1-Her diaper rash was BAD. It helped her air out.
2-She could feel it run down her leg and she hated the feeing and she also know WE could SEE it.

In town we put her in reg. pull-ups.

It took a week to train her properly and I tried to make sure to stay at the house for that time.

BUT remember she will train at her own pace anyway. But add IBD onto it and there might be some challenges for you. Be patient with both of you.

I personally refuse to potty train until I start seeing dry diapers every morning. That's when you know they are ready. I personally used whatever's cheapest. If an accident is an accident you shouldn't need super absorbent. If you do then they aren't ready regardless of IBD or not.

When we are at home I bought those really thick Gerber training underwear. They clean up well. My youngest is training now we get her to pee but poop in her panties daily. She thinks the toilet gives you UC.

My son has Crohn's and was diagnosed at age 2. I tried to potty train then, but it was a nightmare because he had no control and went about 15 times a day. I tried again at 3 and failed again. By age 4, he communicated better and was able to understand what was happening. He had a reward/sticker chart and I spent a few days putting him on the potty every 15 minutes (very time consuming) and he got it. I felt bad because by this time he was going between 15 and 20 times a day, but always made it to the potty. He got lots of praise/rewards for this because I know how hard it is for him. I would recommend waiting until they are older after age 3 or 4 becuase they understand more. Also, he never had night control so always wore diapers at night even though he was trained during the day. Now with the J- pouch, he has reverted to not being trained. The j-pouch surgery has not helped him and he continues to go 15 times a day except now he has no bowel control so he is in kindergarten in school and has to be pulled from class to be changed. Hope this helps.
