Im not sure if this is in the right bit. Is prednisone and prednisolone the same (sorry for the spelling)?
Anyway my question is: many people who are tapering of this medication say their symptoms become worse. How long were you tapering before you noticed? Im down to 20mg which started yesterday and since yesterday i have started with the urgency for the toilet again. I was struggling to even go but now i cant stop. Is this because of tapering or just a build up?
Sorry for the ramble as i know what i mean but struggle to explain haha.
Thanks for reading :)

Hey. They are both corticosteroids but I'm not sure if there is more of a difference that name. If your having issues again it sounds like inflammation is still an issue. I'd suggest giving your doctor a call.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

"Prednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid, a derivative of cortisol, which is used to treat a variety of inflammatory and auto-immune conditions. It is the active metabolite of the drug prednisone and is used especially in patients with hepatic failure, as these individuals are unable to metabolise prednisone into prednisolone." Taken from Wikipedia.

Your symptoms should only get worse if it isn't helping. If you notice you're getting worse you should contact your GI about delaying your taper.

Are you on other medications than prednisolone?

I was on salofalk but my IBD nurse took me off it because it caused heart palpitations and didn't do anything. So I'm just on prednisolone until i get another scope as they want to double check it isn't crohns. Then hopefully i will start immunosuppressants. So its another waiting game.
Thanks for the replies. I will give my IBD nurse a phone on monday.
Another quick question. I was really badly constipated before and was given laxido. Should i stop this now?

Oh right! I remember, yes. Good luck with the tests.

You can probably stop the laxido if you're feeling better. Maybe try to taper off of it (halving the dose or something similar depending on how you take it) and see how your BMs are. If you notice that you're all right it's probably safe to stop.
