Hi all

I was just wondering, does pregnancy affect Crohns? I worry that if i were to fall pregnant that the baby would put pressure on the illeum area where i had a resection 16 years ago (the crohns is back slightly in that area but i'm on Pentasa). Also, i have a large scar where i had my op running down the middle of my stomach & through my belly button area - how will the skin stretch & will i pop? lol - but seriously, would they have to operate on the scar area perhaps? Any advice/thoughts appreciated.:)

I am wondering about the same thing! Unfortunatley, I have not recieved a reply yet (I posted about this a few days ago). I am only 3 mts post op, but I am worried that if I were to become pregnant, that the pressure would cause pain, stretching, tears, to the part that was resected! My doc says that now is the time to get pregnant as I am not on meds yet (since having surgery) and I am free of any crohns (for now) I hope we find out some info!!! :)

Hi I had a resection in 99 when my first baby was 14 months I then had my second baby in 2001 and everything was fine x

I had a resection only 10 months ago and i'm currently 4 months pregnant. this is a planned pregnancy we had a lot of advice from various specialists before we even considered having a baby. we only decided now was the right time because im currently not on any medication and they said it would be better for baby. obviously its not without problems but nothing major just odd pain, although i am worried about my scar stretching :) x

I had my daughter about three years ago while in a flare (I didn't know I had Crohn's at the time). I had surgery two months after I had her and have a pretty big scar from it. I had my son about seven months ago, and had no problem with that pregnancy. My scar stretched, but it didn't hurt and actually looks a bit better :)

Hello! I'm new to this forum, and basically got on here to ask about my scar during pregnancy. I am almost 14 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I had a re-section in 2004, and of course have my big vertical "battle wound" as I call it running down my midline. My scar will sometimes hurt, like when I sneeze, or move a certain way, but nothing major. But in the last week or so, I've really been feeling some pain around the scar, almost like I feel something stretching or tearing on the inside. It's just on one spot, but it's quite uncomfortable. Any advice? I'm going to call my GI and my OB tomorrow, and get their advice. I sure hope I don't have to deal with this the entire time. I've already been through hell with Crohns, hope it doesn't make this pregnancy unpleasant for me. :0(

I had my daughter before surgery, but after my illeostomy reversal, I asked my gi about pregnancy. He didn't mention problems with the scar, just that after surgery, the baby may not get all needed nutrients if I'm flaring. Not that I want another child (maybe if I get married some day), but I think as long as your crohns is ok, then it's fine. Best wishes xoxo

Nolegirlmitch-

Sometimes when you have surgery you get scar tissue that forms on the inside. It dosent always cause problems, sometimes they go in and remove it. I would imagine
a baby would stretch some of that out.

I am sure your Dr can reasure you!

Congrats on the baby!

Lauren

Thanks everyone. Called my OB doctor, and have an appointment. It's definitely scar tissue, i'm sure I have a TON, as my surgery was emergency, and they just cut me right open. They just want to make sure I'm not herniated anywhere, or experiencing a separation in muscle. It's definitely manageable, but better safe than sorry. It's pretty much hurting all the time now. Geez...hasn't Crohns caused enough pain? Blah.

Went to the doctor yesterday, and they basically said there's nothing they can do for me. That it's just the ligaments stretching, combined with my scar. I went to work today, and it was pretty rough. It's basically hurting to the touch now, and is probably 6 or 7 out of ten on pain. I'm a nurse, so I can't sit all day, and this is just ridiculous. I'm really hurting, and really frustrated. I'm no wimp, after all the Crohns pain I've experienced, I feel like maybe they're not taking my pain seriously enough. Put a call in to the nurse tonight, and she'll call me in the morning. I feel like there's SOMETHING they can do. :0(

There must be something they can do even if its som ecream or something, dont know about scar battle wounds but have plenty of baby battle wounds lol x

Hope they can do something for you,
x
