Hi, All.

First time poster so not sure if this question has been asked (or kind of silly) but I was wondering, is it possible to reapply the base of a two-piece system after you remove it?

The reason being, the nurse had attached the base of the two-piece system yesterday, but unfortunately she neglected to put on some powder for the irritation that is right near the bottom of my stoma. So now it's a bit stingy and painful every time there's discharge.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks so much in advanced! On a side note, I really excited I found a forum like this!

Glad you joined us!!!

The only thing you can do really is take it off and put a new one on! Even if you did try and re stick it, it probably wouldn't be sticky enough for it to hold properly! I would change it asap though, because if you are getting output on your skin, it's going to make it sore and may even end up breaking your skin. Not a good thing to happen!

Hi spclxk!!

I agree with Misty-Eyed (Michelle). Once you take it off, it probably will not have reliable stick power. And yikes! on the stingy skin... definitely take care of that sooner than later. Skin breakdown really sucks!

Thanks so much. I have a nurse coming in today so I'll speak to him about addressing this issue and hopefully things get better. The stinging has gotten quite bad to the point where I'm not really sleeping through the night. This irritation started when I got discharged.

It was bleeding the 3rd day back home, but then got better for a bit. I thought by the 6th week (which is now) it should have resolved itself. Do you think I should ask to apply the powder? Is there anything else I can use to help stop the stinging?

Ouch, with the stinging! Sounds like your stoma actually may have shrunk a bit too? It needs to be measured every time you change your appliance as it will shrink for up to 3 months.

You will need a powder to help heal the irritated skin for sure. And perhaps ask for a barrier ring (mouldable) to cover the sore skin up while it heals.

Also ask your nurse about liquid barrier protection, like Cavilon no sting barrier wipes or spray. Basically it is a liquid that you wipe on your skin that creates a film (I.e. The barrier). This can also help protect the sore bits.

Good luck!

Kat
