rectum removal question for the ladies (sorry in advance)

hii everyone :)
i'm back on the waiting list to see my surgeon (as i was removed from the list). but in the meantime just had a question that i didn't really wanna ask but can't find any info on it.

i've had my rectum removed and perianal wound is nearly healed but i've heard will take up to a year so not worried..... intercourse is pretty painful :( it was uncomfortable before for about a year before surgery because my crohn's was very active in the rectum and lower part of my colon- i also later developed a recto-vaginal fistula which i'm unsure has healed yet but now intercourse is very painful (more so at the start) :yfrown:

i'm reading things online about peoples bladders moving to where the rectum was and this can contribute to pain and apparently a very simple surgical procedure corrects this, but this may be nothing to do with it.

just don't know...dreading bringing this up with my young male surgeon dammit!

maybe i haven't given myself enough time to heal but my surgery was in July and i've been feeling great, my abdominal wound is even started to fade surely i must be pretty much healed by now?

.........feel free to send a private msg if u don't want to reply here.

thanks every1! hannah.xxx

I'd say that you need to bring it up with your surgeon. I haven't had my stump removed, but even with the surgery I had I didn't have pain with intercourse at all. This may be too personal, but does it matter what position you're in? Perhaps changing positions would make it better? Sorry I don't have better info or advice for you...

Hannah, I would also hope you could be seen by an OB/GYN as well as your surgeon. I understand that the fistula can take forever to heal up there.

Wish I had an answer for you, I just hope the surgeon has an answer for you. And dont be embarrassed...I'm sure he's heard it all before!

I actually heard this is REALLY normal with your rectum removed on my Ostomy group on FB a LOT of the women have it and some have to go on the Vaginal Valiums!
I have always had painful intercourse ALL my life and I am 43 I hate sex :( so sad
