Okay here I go! Tomorrow morning I"ll be under the knife in la la land. I'll post again when I get home and let you know how the resection surgery goes.

Epidural, cathedar, central line, the works!

I have just had an ileal resection 6 weeks ago with open surgery, the first few weeks after are hard going but worth it, i got very emotional and would cry some days and didnt know why!! but now 6 weeks down the line i am starting to feel much better, infact i want to do more than my body will allow at the moment, good luck.

Wishing you loads of luck and sending healing thoughts your way!

:goodluck::goodluck::goodluck:

Thinking of you,

Thanks for all your warm messages. I'm writing from my hospital room four days post surgery. Went as planned. More post op pain than I expected with some pain breakin through the epidural but the epi is out as is the foley gatherer (holy crap I was scared when she took it out but it really wasn't that bad). I think my magnesiuM and potassium and democratic low. I will write more later They took a foot of intestine out laprascopr but large incision because bowel swollen

good job!

I had my lapro done dec 28th and got out on the jan 4th. it was very traumatic for me; even with the epi there was a lot of pain and i didn't respond to any of the narcotics very well. sounds like it may have been better for you...
hope you heal up fast!

yes sounds like yours was harder on you than mine. though interestingly my mom had the same surgery for a polyp, had to have a similar resection, but she didn't have crohns and her recovery was much easier than mine has been. she had like no post-op pain to speak of and had a real smooth and quick recovery. I on the other hand, to a lesser extent than you, continue to suffer and some of the narcotics are more helpful than others, but it continues to be rough going and recovery feels slow and exhausting to continue to have this pain. And the narcotic may help now with the incisional pain for a few hours but worsen the bowel pain by slowing them down so I get worse gas pain. ugh! and i continue to worry about this new groin/scrotal pain and tenderness, it doesn't feel right.

Just goes to show how individual the recovery is and how there is a real scale.

I hope you continue to heal and improve with each day.

Hope yer doing well man. I've dodged surgery for 15 years but I have a feeling my time will come.

Light one up and kick back eh? Where in Cali you located?

Due to have surgery this week. Blockage in terminal ileum. The dr says he doesn't do epidural cath for this surgery and just does pain pump. What do you guys think? Should I insist on epidural cath???

i had an epidural because I am allergic to all good pain meds. I think it was better than being all drugged out on pain meds. I was just numb from under my boobs down. I think it was alot better than being high on the pain meds.

Hi Juicy, going for surgery today. Have already asked for epi and thank you so much. Will write when I come home to tell you how it went. Thanks so much.

Every pain med and sedative I have ever tried has made me so ill... (I'm not "allergic" I'm just "sensitive"). This is good information to have. Hopefully I can ask for something like this in lieu of the usual that makes me feel so awful... should I ever need it.

Coming off the epid was a little painful, kind of felt like my middle was on fire but then I got some normal pain meds, they gave me vicodin which works for me and it helped a lot. They also gave me I don't remember the name but it is the med in the epidural which helped to.

I had the epi with my recent surgery. Hadn't had one since I gave birth almost ten years ago.

It was weird and I didn't really feel like it was helping, until the epi slipped about four days after the surgery and my entire right side went numb! They removed it shortly after that and I then realized how much it had actually been helping!!

my epi did not work at all. My right leg was numb to the knee and whole stomach was not numb. They came to fix it and said I had to lay down and to the left so the stuff would go that way. It was hard to lay that way. Anyway, then it stopped working all together and when the other dr came to remove it, she said it was barely touching me. They then put me on the morphine pump. I'll take that any day. Today I"m taking percocet and doing just fine. I'm curious, how long does this first BM take??
