Has anyone restarted Remicade after being off of it for a long period of time? I was on it for about a year, 9 years ago. It seemed to work but two days after a treatment I ended up in the hospital having a resection. The Doctors felt the treatments were were controlling the symptoms but not helping the inflammation. Since then I have had another resection and been on every med out there. I have been on high dose prednisone since Aug 2011. Nothing is helping. They are restarting me on Remicade as soon as my insurance approves it. Hopefully the beginning of next week. They said there is a high rate of allergic reactions to people who restart. Also because of all of the meds I have been on I don't remember if I had side effects before. Has anyone else been through this. Did you react the same the first time around as the second? Did it help? Thanks!

I restarted Remicade after being off of it for a few years (3 or 4, it's late, can't really remember). I didn't have any problems restarting it. I was on Humira and it wasn't working, my GI gave me the option of trying the Remicade again. I get pre-meds before the infusion and haven't had any problems so far. Maybe I'm one of the few lucky ones!

I had two infusions of Infliximab to treat a fissure - ten years ago. Worked a treat.
Had two infusions of Infliximab in Dec last year.
I was forewarned that I may have anti-bodies and may have an allergic reaction. But I was keen to give it a go as it had worked so well ten years ago.
First infusion went ok - until a week later. Woke up feeling unwell. Later that day - couldn't move my head and neck, and my jaw was locked.
Second infusion - not long in to it - had convulsions.
It was the first time in the 20 years I have had CD that I realized it will probably kill me. Or one of the treatments will.

No pre-treatment. I know Americans tend to have Benadryl etc.
Here - they just hook you up and away you go.
The experience really freaked me out - to the point that I am a little scared of taking Humira. And I am now very fearful of any side effects.

They are pre treating me with 3 meds I can't think of the what they areat the moment but thank you for sharing your experiance. I have been in humira. I did not have side effects with it but unfortunatley it did not work for me. Good luck I hope it helps! Everyone is different as you know.

No worries Manatey. Hope it works out for you.
I was really disappointed as it worked so well last time.
Fingers crossed it will fix you up and bring you blissful remission.

Hi,

I have been on and off Remicade over years. Just finished one infusion today after a year gap, this was my 4th restart. Don't worry, not everyone reacts to restarting.Follow what your doctor says and make sure someone is with you during the infusion.
