I am having my first flare up, I am usually so active and always on the go and I cant do anything :( I was meant to be doing a half marathon next month, I tried to walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes last week and i was soooo tired. I am not coping well with this, I cant stop crying and feel so low and depressed all the time. I am an active person and just want to be fit. Does anyone know how I can get past this? I hate it so much!

Im in the same boat as yourself. I love being active and due to my last flare havent been able to do anything. Do have to say that you really need to take your time in getting back into it tho. Try too much too soon, and you normally end up feeling bad again (thats what I found out). Maybe some other forms of exercise might be better suited when flaring. If im not too bad I try rockclimbing (never too far away from the toilets in indoor centres lol)

lol im just so fed up, i dont do a lot in life anyway apart from gym, walking etc, and im just stuck inside these four walls right now on my own driving myself crazy. I'm not sure how long i can cope with this for :-(

hi freespirit,

just wanted to say that i'm sorry for your struggle. it is really hard and can be no fun :[ i really hope you can find what works for you.

i joined an indoor gym -- i love taking walks but appreciate knowing where the closest restroom is! i have done a lot of indoor rock climbing as well. i also love hula-hooping, but i think that's mainly a good-stomach-day activity!

the crohns and colitis foundation of america also schedules several marathons and half marathons during the year that include both walking and running. they are also fundraising events, which is cool. i am hoping to participate in the half-marathon event in vegas in december - i figure if they are scheduling a marathon for people with crohns and colitis, then the course MUST be lined with restrooms! ha...

i definitely understand how hard it is to feel coped up -- maybe you can find a combo of indoor/outdoor things to do based on how you are feeling each individual day? not all days are bad days by any means!

Hope you feel better soon!...I am an avid horse person - used to carry a roll of TP with me for 'pit stops' in the woods while out riding!.....thankfully no one ever came upon me while I was indisposed! lol....

Thanks Cronnie, I am a member of a gym but right now I am feeling pretty "tender" from being in and out of the toilet all day and night and I couldnt go gym even if i had the energy. I miss it, i certainly wont be sciving off once i am well enough to get going again. LOL I dont really feel like I am getting any better though, one day i feel like i am improving and the next (like today) I am right back at what feels like square one!!

Paso- been picking up some tips off here about different things, such as taking an "emergency" pack out with me and so on lol, once im out and about again im gona get one made up, always laugh at my friends with big "pointless" handbags, they will be wodering why the sudden change loll xx

Hi I realize not everyone is into herb helpers but thought I'd just mention that I was starting to flare last wkend, had diarrhea starting back up with mucus and some blood and I started taking a herbal anti inflammatory that stopped it in its tract (no pun intended) Boswellia extract with turmeric in it. I know the herbs don't work for everyone but its worth a shot and worth mentioning if it does work for you!

Thankyou, I am willing to try anything right now, i dont care what works as long as something does, I shall give it a try. Thankyou x
